I can't believe it's only rated a 3 as of 11/2008... This show was the bomb

Batman (the t.v. series) plus James Bond live out west. My Dad loved this show and I could hardly stand watching it. The concept behind it was great though. Can you imagine the writer pitching the idea to the network execs? Four stars for creativity.

I realize that "The Wild Wild West" has its diehard fans, but I could never get into this show. For some reason the mix of science fiction and western genres just didn't work for me personally. Both Robert Conrad and Ross Martin played their respective parts well; however, Martin (Artemus Gordon) had too little screen time in my opinion, making the storylines a bit lopsided. The villains were a bit over the top as well, being more appropriate for "Batman" than a western theme. Nevertheless, the segues were well done (as each scene blended into animation if memory serves), and the theme song was one of the best. The bottom line is an extremely subjective 2 stars.

Fun to watch and often funny! Like the time Alan Hale, Jr. guest starred and he mentioned something at the end like he was going to go spend a little time on an island somewhere, I think, while the "Gilligan's Island" started to play in the background!!! Playful little gag by the writers and one example of what made the show so entertaining. Beats the crap out of the Will Smith movie version, that's for sure...

I really liked this show when I was a kid, and I catch it from time to time on reruns sometimes. I always thought it was cool how they would use the last scene for a "freeze-frame painting" in the close of every part of the hour long show. I also got a chuckle over the midget villin, although I don't recall his name. I just could'nt find him mean enough. :)

Here we had a 19th Century high tech James Bond crew. James West (Robert Conrad) and Artemis Gordon (Ross Martin) had a private train and roamed the West snuffing out baddies at the request of President Grant. Babes abounded in that part of the world and West had great success with the dollies.

A very good show to watch, but the specials they did in the 80s could not capture the spirit of the tv show. And the movie that Will Smith made sucked.

Kind of cool, although it did tend to get a touch predictable. One of the better spy-adventure television attempts.

James Bond was only a James West wannabe.West is still as cool a character as anyone on TV.

I loved this show when I was a kid. The new movie was an insult to the original series IMO.I wouldn't mind having a set of those boots that James West owned. Does anyone remember those little knives that popped out of the toe area of Jim's boots? Gotta get me a pair! I would love to see Bob Conrad again in something, anything! Would someone please offer this actor a decent role!

Finally! A show where the lead actor took his shirt off every chance he got. There might have also been a plot.

A great show with all kinds of gadgets, some hard to belive since this was supposed to be the 1870's, but it was fun anyway. Can anyone tell me if re-runs are being shown anywhere? I used to watch it every day here in L.A. on ch56 but they took it off a few years back and it never returned. It also is no longer on cable.

Well I'll tell you why the movie stinks, Will Smith could never do the stunts like Robert Conrad (nor would the studio nowdays let him). Conrad did almost everything himself and made it look real. I like his character, outside he's a polite gentlemen but inside a tough cookie.

Stupidest show of its time. Robert Conrad, despite all his posturing and macho bravado, always impressed me as a threatened and uncertain closet case. Ross Martin was good in Mr. Lucky, but in this show he was totally ridiculous and unbelievable.

I loved this show. Robert Conrad and Ross Martin proved to be a great team. I also enjoyed the different gadgets that Jim used to use. Who could forget Dr. Loveless?

The Wild Wild West Was Ahead of its Time! Robert Conrad Was Made For The Role of James West..Ross Martin Loved What He Was Doing As Artemus Gordon..And it Showed on Screen. And He Was Great At Master of Disguise! Its To Bad They Made That Terrible Movie!

It was a series ahead of its time, he was the James bond of the west...It was amazing for back then how many special effects they used for a weekly series, I thought the movie sucked...

Reruns of this show used to be on Sunday mornings when I was a kid, and I remember really enjoying it. Jim West and Artemis Gordon were great characters, and the juxtoposition of high-tech with the wild west was pretty entertaining. So why did the big budget "Wild West" movie stink so bad? I guess it just never managed to capture the essence of the original.
