This is a truly great, entertaining tv show. Barbara Eden is perfect for the part she plays. She proves to be a wonderful versitile actress, singer and keeps the show full of energy and interest with her optimistic personalty, innocent qualities, and well meaning actions that turn into problems for her master. In several of the episodes, she plays different parts including her sinister sister. Many people thought is was another actress playing the part because she carried it off so well. Anyone who is old enough to remember watching the show knows how all the girls wanted to be Jeannie and the boys wished they could find there own Jeannie. The fact that Jeannie's master, Major Nelson, was in the Air Force probably gave many young men and women the idea of joining the Air Force. Although Barbara Eden's outfit was a little risque at the time, there wasn't anything dirty or suggestive about it. It's funny how the censors at the time thought the outfit was ok but show her belly ... Read more

A show I really liked as a kid. Light and fun, and kind of silly. Still watch it when I'm feeling nostalgic.

This show was so stupid.  Here's this guy who finds a Geneie that's Barbara Eden, and he doesn't command her to run around naked all the time!  Are we to believe that?

I loved this one too!!! Wanted to know how the Genie got all that hip furniture shrunken down to fit in that tiny little bottle!!!! Loved it when the Major's boss was always snooping on Genie!!!

Loved that Jeannie! A fun show and I don't see why it would be held in less esteem than Bewitched. Neither show was what you would call highbrow humor! I enjoy both shows for their respective slant on the supernatural sitcom.

I see ch56 kdoc here in LA is showing it at night. Some shows were very stupid, but check out those with Jeannie's evil sister. I like the one where she takes Jeannie's place, it was great. Barbara eden is actually a pretty good actress.

I loved this show as a child and I still like it. Tony Nelson finds a bottle on the beach while on a mission as an astronaut. Jeannie comes out after 2000 years. This is the beginning of their life together. Jeannie instantly loves Tony and wants him for herself so she is protective of him. Tony must keep her a secret the only person who knows the truth about Jeannie is Tony's friend Roger. Jeannie is always interfering in Tony's life her magic often gets Tony into trouble.Barbara Eden is great as Jeannie as well as Larry Hagman as Tony.Jeannie has a quick temper so if anyone makes her mad she blinks up something to happen to them.  I even admit for nostalgia I bought the first season when they had a good sale. still fun to watch on occasion .

Though certainly inspired by and more slapstick than its contemporary "Bewitched", I've always enjoyed "I Dream Of Jeannie" more. This is primarily due to my preference for Barbara Eden (Jeannie) over Elizabeth Montgomery, and I thought that Larry Hagman (Tony) was funnier than either Dick York or Dick Sargent. In addition, Bill Daily (Roger) was the strongest supporting actor of either cast. Legend has it that the network wouldn't allow Eden's navel to show, but I'm not sure whether this is true. I will admit that when growing up and watching this show on re-runs, I didn't exactly know why I liked Jeannie bouncing around; I just knew that I did.

Jeannie was cute and Roger was kind of funny, but that was all. The show was just not that good, just really silly. They tried to use a dumb blonde in a mini skirt blonde to compete with Bewitched, but it didn't work. IDOJ lasted only 5 years and was scheduled to be cancelled after 3. Bewitched on the other hand lasted for 8 years won awards ranked in the top 10 then and even now ranked top 10 for classic tv shows.

Bewitched is a good show, I like watching it everytime it comes on. I remember watching it all the time when I was younger wishing I had a genie of my very own. all the shows are wonderful and never boring, 5 stars....

Another classic of the time. Barbara Eden was entertaining to watch and it was just not her looks either. If the show was on now it would be based on her trying to keep her master out of her bottle.

To much of this board's comments, I think that the show had a few bloopers, but all and all, it was a great sitcom. And to the one who said Barbara Eden is untalented; they would'nt know talent if it hit them in the face! And as much as I love Elizibeth Montgomery; she was no way as beautiful as Barbara Eden! Any idiot can see that! Mike, IDOJ Mike's Website http://idojmikesws.michaeltprice.com/~Homepage.htm

Talentless HAG Barbara Eden tried to gain stardom as Jeannie, and failed. The show was a rip-off from Bewitched, which starred the lovely and mega-talented Elizabeth Montgomery! IDoJ NEVER won any Emmys, but Bewitched sure did! Bewitched, in the 8 year run ranked in the top 25 for its first 6 seasons! In IDoJ's 5 year run, it NEVER ranked in the top 25 BEST shows......EVER! Barbara Eden's character empowered those women of the 60's to be slaves to the men in their lives. On the other hand, Elizabeth Montgomery's Samantha Stephens empowered women with respect! IDoJ can not even compare to Bewitched! Bewitched ruled the airwaves and Jeannie did not.

Yes, I guess we're all still dreaming of Jeannie. And especially I...I'm still dreaming of Barbara. This has happened to me since my childhood some 30 years ago!!! Though I feel Meg Ryan's warmth as a very touch, for me Barbara Eden just beats Meg fall out off the stage. Sorry for my bad English, I'm not native speaker. But one thing keeps burning on my mind...has she done somthing with her breasts??? Look at this original http://members.tripod.com/~dreamofjeannie/barb37.jp g

Despite Barbara Eden's wonderful pulchritude, this show was just too silly and too dull to be very entertaining. The only thing unique about it was that Jeannie never used contractions when she spoke (I do not know, Master, e.g.), which makes her the only TV character to talk that way. But that's a weak gimmick. Bill Daly and Hayden Roarke both played rather tiresome characters too.

Not as good as Bewitched, but still a very funny and enduring show. Furthermore it is not a copy or clone of Bewitched it's a different show. Barbara Eden is terrific as Jeannie, but the stars who really make the show are Larry Hagman, Hayden Rorke and Bill Daily. My personal favorite is Bill Daily. I Dream of Jeannie is just a fun show to watch.

It's yet ANOTHER great TV sitcom from the 60s (lasting into the early 70s). An astronaut finds a beautiful genie and hilarity ensues! The slapstick is great, as well as the special effects and sight gags. Barbara Eden is beautiful and the references (correct ones, too) to NASA programs are nifty. Highly recommended!

A half-naked woman in a harlam costume with colors of red and pink . . . makes this show a wonderful fantasy of the male species. It's no wonder why this male sex symbol, Jeannie, is still doing successful in reruns. Now if only TV Land could run I Dream of Jeannie to the ground more often . . . that would be sheer Heaven for men of all ages.

A great show, used to watch it everyday here in L.A., they would start with the first show and continue on to the last..then it would start over again. I guess I've seen every show a dozen times. Anyway Capt Nelson is a little goofy for an officer, often wondered how he got out of doing extra duty..all the things they made us do in the Navy when we screwed up.

IDOJ and BW were bitter rivels. Im now a HARDCORE bewitched fan, But I have all the episodes of this on tape too (simply becuase I love collecting entire shows.. I have about 20 shows in full), But it very smilar to BW but thats why I like it, and Babara Eden was one Hot babe in them days, But I unlike most English people I just like living in fantasy, this show comes in 2nd place at doing it (behind BW of course) 3 and haldf stars but i'll say 4 becuase you can't give halfs

Too silly. Barbara was beautiful but the show was just too goofy. Tony, Dr. Bellows, and Roger were all too flaky and unstable to be in the space program. Jeannie always came off like a silly school girl, acting jealous and doing crazy things then laughing. And why did she keep calling Tony, Master after they got married. They made her look like a dumb dumb. All the trouble Tony got in she caused it.

One of the all time greats. I have watched this show since I was 12 years old. Tony and Jeannie made such a cute couple. The funny adventures Jeannie would get Tony into could never be replaced. . . I loved it when they finally married at the end.

One of the greatest pure sitcoms ever. The writing may not have been sterling, but the acting was top-knotch. The situations really drove the comedy, like it should be in a true sitcom. The special effects were tremendous for the 1960's, a testament to both the actors and the directors, who pioneered the "freezing" technique. Barbara Eden was not only beautiful, but a great actress as well (witness her presentation of Jeannie's sister, a performance that was the polar opposite of her Jeannie persona). Larry Hagman showed off his acting prowess in Dallas 15 years later, but he was master of the pratfall and other comic devices during his "Jeannie" run. Bill Daily must be known as one of the all-time best character actors ever (though I wish the writers would have developed Roger Healey as much as the Bob Newhart writers developed Howard Borden). And Hayden Rorke, another excellent character actor, consistently provided the best performances in "Jeannie". We all could comiserate with Maj... Read more

Absolute dreck. Totally unfunny. The fact that they attempted to sustain a premise that had about 20 episodes of life through five seasons is the hallmark of a really crap show. Barbara Eden was pretty hot in her prime, but they kept her covered up: I know this was the 60s, but you saw more skin on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. With better writing, they could have done much, much more with the magic gags. But they didn't...
