Glad I pulled through seasons 1 and 2. Season 5 all the way to the end was great, really worth watching. This is the first star trek to constantly include story arcs longer than a couple episodes. The episodes with the dominion occupation of ds9 and the dominion war in general are my favorites. Best trek ever!

I like this show a lot; it's probably my favorite of the Star Trek series. Go watch it. Now here are some things about the show I think are silly: The combat, especially hand to hand combat, never makes much sense. Take the Jem'Hadar. The JH are supposed to be these amazing warriors who are naturally much stronger than humans and so on. But it seems that any one of our main characters is more than a match for a JH. In fact (I'm rewatching the show and am only through the 5th season; maybe this will change), it seems to me that the JH NEVER actually display any real fighting prowess. It's talked about all the time, but when it comes down to the event, the JH consistently get knocked around. Related to the above: It just looks silly when you have slender women handily defeating men twice their size in unarmed combat. It doesn't make any sense and is jarring every time it happens, especially when the men are from some big warrior group (JH, Klingons, whatever). Yeah, their excuse is th... Read more

It's been so many years since I've seen this series, but I still have fond memories of this show and I maybe have to watch Deep Space Nine again on DVD to make proper judgment of it. Never the less DS9 in the long run will be seen as a better show than TNG and a BIG step up over Voyager and Enterprise.

While I'm a fan of both the original series and "Star Trek: The Next Generation", I could never get into "Deep Space Nine". This wasn't for lack of trying, as I was really into "TNG" at the time; however, "DSN" was just took dark for the franchise and oftentimes felt like a science fiction soap opera. A good number of the prior reviews suggest that the series got better in later seasons and this may very well be true, but by that time I had given up on the show. A real shame since the concept had promise (e.g. more alien screen time).

I guess if you are a purest than you would not like this show. How ever, if you are a true Sci Fi fan and love Star Trek, this show was great. I agree they could have done a lot more with it and the whole Bejoran thing got a little boring but they had some great episodes. It was supposed to be a place where interesting aliens would visit but it went of on the Dominion tangent which was ok but I still like the show and hated the ending.

Just brilliant. If you commit to it and watch the entire show, you'll be impressed. Very interessting storyline. I love watching Deep Space Nine. Great acting, very good effects and awesome aliens. It gotten better over the years, the first two season were allright but the last three seasons were the bomb. The Dominion threat is so much more fascinating the the Borg.

Not the usual thing you think of when you think space show, having it set on an (almost) unmovable station, but DS9 made for great drama. Another gem from Gene and company.

Now this was good television and good science fiction! Deep Space Nine had great characters that were developed throughout the series. Also had great story arcs - both within each season AND throughout all seasons - all episodes together form a fantastic spiritual story. Perhaps this spiritual element is what eludes some people, and lessens the enjoyment of the show. Also had great battle/action scenes that were tastefully done. This was the funniest Star Trek series - just good mature humor. Special effects were great. Acting was the best of any Star Trek series, overall. A very special show with a spiritual theme that gives one hope for humanity and self. Not for the superficial science fiction fan.

The best ST series. This show is the percect blend of character/story archs, and standalone episodes. I love the dark storyline with the war with cardassians and the dominion. And the cast of characters is the greatest of all the ST series.

You people need to look at DS9 on its own merits. This shows direction was risky and unique for a star trek series. I am glad they tried something different and I am also glad that it took place in the same time period as STTNG, allowing cross over characters such as Worf. This show may have been a little soap operaish at times but it was still enjoyable. And it explored the darker side of star trek.

My favorite trek. some agrue that B5/DS9 ripped off DS9/B5, but i dont really care, i got two watchable shows out of it. One reason this was the best trek was that there were more alien main characters in the story line. all the other treks have too many human characters. it was darker than than the other treks, which also helped to make it more interesting. the show starts out slow, but gets much better as the series progresses. i didnt like all the metaphysical crap with the pah-wraiths towards the end of the series and i really hated what they did to dukat's character, but other than that the show stayed strong to the end.

The Best Version of Star Trek ever made, on almost every count. While Kirk, Spock and Picard, Data may be more well known, DS9's cast is the most diverse and has the greatest depth (15-20 semi-regulars!) DS9 can't be fully enjoyed on a standalone basis (ie. TOS, TNG, VOY). You have to be willing to watch it for the long haul to truly appreciate what was done. Oh, and the 1st season sucked (except for the last 2 episodes), so don't base your opinion of the show on what you saw back in '93. A lot changed as soon as 1 1/2 seasons in.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is no real match for The Next Generation or even the original Star Trek. Granted, I'm no Sci-Fi fan, but DSN seemed more like a soap opera than a sci-fi. The acting was OK and the special effects were admittedly superb but that's about it.

The best Trek. With an intricately woven storyline to span the entire series and strong, likeable (and not-so-likeable but really great) characterizations by wonderful actors.

I loved Sisko's tactical captaining - I loved their tribute to the Tribble episode, I loved the episode where Jake tries to save Sisko, who's caught in a time trap, I loved the Dominion Wars, I loved the Defiant, I loved the return to the original series' mirror universe, I loved Worf on the show and his romance w/ Dax, I liked how sexy Quark's was, I loved the romance between Kira and Odo, I loved Bashir's genetically-enhanced brain (another nod to the original series) - all in all, a job well-done!

One of the most underrated shows in the 90's. In my opinion it was the best star trek. I can't help but think if the first 2 years hadn't sucked it would've done much better

I liked the first few seasons much better than the last few seasons. Appeared to me, that the producers attempted to correct some mistakes they made with TNG in DS9 by creating love stories, etc and following through on them. Became way too much like a soap opera at the end.

It was ok. TOS and TNG were both good, but DS9 was the first show to decline in quality overall. Not nearly as bad as Voyager or Enterprise, but not as great as it could have been.

dosn't compare to The Next Generation. I tried to watch some episodes and ended up fustrated at it and wanted more Next Generation. The caracter are better and the writing is more thought out in TNG. Deep space 9 is a cheap knockoff and dosn't have the importance of "feel" that TNG has

I loved the previous Star Treks, this one just didn't grab me.The cast didn't cut it,the stories too static. Most of the time it looked like a soap opera, with everyone sitting around talking, complete with intergallactic coffee shop

I really, really liked the old 1960's low-budget Star Trek with William Shatner, but this show is one big mess. Even the outstanding special effects can't save this show. It is so long, and boring, and never, ever takes shape. I bet that if Galaxy Quest was a Tv show, I would like that better.
