I loved the earlier black, and white episodes with Bub, or William Frawley.  The show seemed to be dull after they left Bryant Park.  I would love to see what Tina Cole looks like now.

A five star classic in the William Frawley era, Uncle Charlie was just cranky and the show started to decline steadily from there. All episodes are watchable though and it's good family entertainment.

mike was the only son that was cool -a and he booked outta there as fast as he could. leaving rob... chip... the adoption of ernie... (all kinda puffy cheeked and slack jawed...) then you had mean old uncle charley replacing sweet old bub... and in the end steve marries whats-er-name and that DODIE THANG arrived... ad dont forget rob's wife and triplets... all in all it was a pretty smelly household.

This show was a weekly staple in my home growing up. I liked it all through the years and with all the changes that came about. Three sons became four sons with the adoption of Ernie. Chip and Ernie were great. The older son ended up having three sons, too. And, finally, Mr. Douglas remarried, too. Good for him.

I would really give this about a 3.5. Not a bad show that ran during the 60s and a couple years in the 70s. A sitcom about a widower and his threee sons. They start out with Mike, Robbie and Chip.and BUB the grumpy uncle takes care of the boys too. Then they have cast changes, Mike gets married and curiously is never heard from again. To still make it my three sons The dad adopts Ernie the boy next door in need of a Home. We see Robbie and Chip get married. Robbie's wife Katie has triplets now having their own three sons. Steve also gets married and inherits a daughter named Dodie, and Uncle Bub is replaced by uncle Charlie another grumpy uncle who helps run the household. I liked this show as a kid growing up. and see it now and then when it was on TVLAND.

Steve Douglas (Fred MacMurray) was a single parent with three sons. His father-in-law, Bub O'Casey (William Frawley of I Love Lucy Fame) lived with them and kept house. The show was the slice of life of the family. The boys had girlfriends, Steve had to fight off babes who wanted to marry him, etc. The series went on forever. The boys grew up and the oldest one moved on so Steve adopted another so. Bub died so Uncle Charlie O'Casey (William Demarest) moved in to fill Bub's spot. Babes came and went, some got married--Steve got married. Relatives moved it. It was quite a mix.

Another good father and son(s) show. Ever noticed they left the mother out of a lot of these shows?

In its black & white days, with Bub running the family, it was one of TV's greatest programs ever. But as the years passed, and it seemed everyone in the house was getting married all at once, the large cast of characters made the show collapse under its own weight. They should have quit while they were ahead - about 10 years earlier.

Well what year are we talking about? It was great at first and then got really bad. As the ratings went down they kept adding new people by someone getting married, and of course all of them still lived in the same house!

Good show during the William Frawley years, and it was ok for a while when William Demarest took over after Frawley's death, but it was on way too long.

This underrated show deserves a high rating because of its first few seasons - the episodes that were in black & white. Anyone who takes the time to view those early episodes, especially from the very first season, will see a show that is very thougtful and thoroughly entertaining - even a little unique. It was clever, warm, funny and all the characters at that time were likeable. But unfortunately, the show didn't know when to quit. The changes in cast aren't necessarily what killed the quality of the show but they serve as landmakrs to note when it started going downhill. The first blow came when William Frawely, who played the part of housekeeper Bub, passed away. The show was still good. The replacement, Uncle Charley, was okay. Then later, oldest son Mike got married and moved away. Little Ernie was adopted to fill the void of the "third" son. This was not good. It also happened to be right when the show went color. It was still okay for a while but never the same. Th... Read more

Although a little bit too lacking on the slapstick and puns, the image of another nuclear family is cool. Early ones that featured William Frawley (Fred from I Love Lucy) were among the best. The other cast was talented and the show had a Brady Bunch-type-feel too it. More jokes and some crazy slapstick would have made it a five-star.

This show is one of those that I enjoyed watching during its entire run. Mike, Robby, Chip, even Ernie, were like family to me. They were more like brothers or good friends that I visited each week. When William Frawley died it took awhile to get used to "Uncle Charley" (William Demarest), who replaced "Bub" as the grandfather figure. Fred McMurray seems a little aloof now that I watch the show in reruns, but I he was o.k. I always liked his movies. By today's standards the show was mostly 2 dimensional and the characters didn't go into any great depth, like visiting relatives you don't spend a lot of time with and so are extra polite to. But I'm glad it's on. I love watching all of the old shows. The new ones aren't worth wasting time on. They pollute the air and are even more innocuous.

My Three Sons was really, really funny when William Frawley was on, and those were the episodes that I watched. It was on reruns on TV land, but I don't know if they are anymore.

I loved this show growing up and I would like to see those re-runs! I came running into the living room when I heard that song. I love goodhearted Fred MacMurray. I said I'd grow up and marry a man like that! And I did. I really miss the cozy feeling that this show brought into my life as a kid. The world just can't seem to handle this kind of entertainment anymore.

America must have had a stockpile of film that had to be used before it's expiration date, so they did this. Not even cutesy, not anything. Non-descript and just boring.

I watched the re-runs of the show as a kid, but I'm not sure why. Can someone please explain how Uncle Charlie became the family bitch? All he ever did was cook and clean. At least, Alice wasn't related to the Brady Bunch and was hired help. Uncle Charlie traded his dignity for a roof over his head.
