Take a whiny hubsand, a bitchy wife, a can't-win brother, an over-nurturing mother, and a crude father and you have a winning formula for sitcom success. The family covered every personality trait there was with maybe the exception of a few that you'd find in mental institutions. Usually funny but sometimes I would really get sick of Ray being so whiny and Debra being so bitchy in every instance.

I don't. Love Raymond that is, or any other part of this dismal, unfunny sitcom. Take Peter Boyle out of the mix and this is the most wretched of shite.

As far as family comedies go, Everybody Loves Raymond was one of the best. Peter Boyle was a huge part of it's success along with Brad Garret and Doris Roberts (Robert, Frank, and Marie). If you didn't grow up in a Catholic, Italian, large family, or with an overbearing mom you might not find it funny. But if you did you found this show hilarious for obvious reasons.

Ray Romano is funny outside of the show, but "Everybody Loves Raymond" is just annoying as hell. The funniest thing I remember about ELR is the reference in "40-Year Old Virgin". And Brad Garrett: you're better than that.

The rating would have been higher a few years ago but the show has pretty much run it' course. At one time it was one of the best shows on TV. The characters were a perfect fit and the sarcastic comedy was a riot. I still find humor in it but have seen most episodes several times.

I love this sitcom! It's just one of those shows where everything seems to fit. The cast works so well together that it's easy to believe they are really family. The writing and delivery is fantastic! Even the additional supporting characters (Debra's parents, Amy's parents and brother, etc.) bring a great twist to the show. One of the best sitcoms ever!

I have to mention though, that singles won't enjoy it as married people. I find most of the situations between Ray and Debra exactly what I experience in life :) I even enjoy it more when I dicuss the issues wit my husband after each episode!! To give you an impression of how much I'm obssessed with "Every body loves Raymond", I got the full 9 seasons from a friend who recorded it on DVD from the T.V. After 2 years of watching it, almost everyday during lunch, I recently bought the full package f 9 seasons from Best Buy!! Now I'll be able to see it more clearly :D Seasons 1 is so beginner for me after seeing the rest of the seasons, so starting with season 2 will be ok too.

Amazing programme! My favourite ever! Love Debra and Ray!! Peter Boyle and Doris work amazingly together! I think that Dera and Ray have a real chemistry on stage and would do well to do more projects together. Writers could have done with a few changes here and there, e.g. towards the end, all Debra and Ray did was fight and argue. Would have been better to see a nice, loving side of them together.

Five stars for the first few seasons. I think they took the fun out of it when it was just Ray and his wife fighting all the time. Great cast and overall good writing.

Mostly ok but many were the times when Marie, the mother, made me want to really let her have it. I cannot stand it when people let themselves be pushed around endlessly. I know, I know, TV show and all, but come on, it got tedious after awhile.

I liked it at first but then the Deborah character had to take on the feminist schtick that all men are stupid. That put it into steep decline at the end. Too bad the other Barones didn't look Italian. Oops! They WEREN'T Italian! Got old, very fast.

Raymond was always  a wuss, but, yes, after Deborah became brash it was her interaction with him--the old eyeball roll, the look of disdain, the "I'm tolerating him because he's dumb and I'm superior" shtick--that made me turn it off forever.

Nearly flawless show other than the Amy character (she's the producer's wife), who was generally as usely as Trixie Norton. Her family was a riot, though.

Why do shows like this run and run, when so many great shows get cancelled after one season.

I absolutely love Everybody Loves Raymond. My husband and I watch it as much as possible. It is so funny. I think my favorite character is Frank. He is hilarious. He always makes me laugh. Yes sometimes he may say some negative things about females, but what people don't understand is that it is only a television show, and more thank likely, THAT IS NOT HOW HE IS IN REAL LIFE! I also enjoy the show because Debra is a lot like myself and Raymond like my husband.

My kids watch this on occasion, and I find nothing funny about it, except for the old man. He's the only one who makes me laugh. The rest of it is too much like my life to be funny.

a48 you've obiously haven't seen alot of t.v. shows. This may not be the greatest show, and it may have some bad episodes, the show has some hilarious characters, a fabulous cast, and some creative plots with creative humor. I'm,however, glad it's going of air since the last seasons weren't really that good!

BORING!!! I just don't get it. I think that this is the only comedy on TV that I've forced myself to sit through 5 episodes and didn't even crack a SINGLE smile. There is nothing funny about this show. It's like watching a radio show. Nothing happens, let alone nothing FUNNY happens. I can't figure out why the critics love this show (or how it gets ratings). Watching COPS is funnier.

We just got through watching the Feb. 7th show. Critics seemed to just LOVE it. We now wonder what criteria critics use to rate an episode as being great. Hey, when the whole schtick is to show what a consistently insensitive loudmouth jerk Raymond is -- several things are obvious: 1) The writers have lost their touch. 2) It wasn't the slightest bit funny. 3) If they can't do any better than the Feb. 7th episode, 4) It is indeed time for CBS to end the series. 5) It is sad when a great show lives beyond its peak. The premise is essentially: you can't please everybody. The fairly placid Ray constantly manages to upset someone in the family, simply by being a normal husband and father. A show about arguing, often involving the whole family bitching to each other for a whole episode. Tirades of heartless and tactless comments, which generate as many gasps and they do laughs. Marie's withering stare deserves an award in itself.

I agree with ClassicTVFan47, where she/he said that this show relies on the formula of stupid-average-looking-male marrying beautiful-intelligent-caring wife... Every SINGLE episode I've watched, he does something to disappoint her- then they end up forgiving each other. Then the next episode is all the same. It's like another King of Queens crap. It's cliched. Although I'd like to say that Robert is funny.

Can I give this show zero stars? I do not have one good thing to say about Everybody Loves Raymond. It is one of the most asinine shows I've ever watched. Its popularity has always perplexed me. None of the characters are likable. They use the same inane plots and jokes over and over and over again. Ray Romano is one of the most unfunny comedians out there. It really disgusts me to see this show get so much praise, attention, and respect. I think watching water boil is more exciting than watching this show.

What exactly has propelled this sitcom to the top of the proverbial Nielsen heap? Who knows? What I know, however, is that is a terrible example of what has happened to the primetime sitcom of the 90s and 00s. First off, this show seemed to pioneer the formula of stupid-average-looking-male marrying beautiful-intelligent-caring wife. That's fine and all, but now it doesn't seem like there is a single intelligent male anywhere in the current sitcom world (especially since Fraiser is now gone). The show doesn't have an extreme degree of objectionable content, but it doesn't have any creativity either. The crux of the show seems to be the entire family arguing with each other. Ray Ramano's extremely stilted and drawn-out delivery doesn't help much either. Also, the concept is just dull. Something woefully missing from sitcoms these days is the high-concept. Where's the genie? The clone? The talking chair? Give me something than just another family bickering with each other!
