Metal Gear Solid

Back when this game was first released on the Playstation, I was about 10 years old. I was such a young kid, and at the time due to how video games were developed in conjunction with my age, made me partial to action/adventure games such as Medal of Honor or Syphon Filter, and platformers such as Spyro The Dragon. I had no idea what I was getting into when I first rented Metal Gear Solid. I rememeber looking at the back of the case at the gamestore.. "Tactical Espionage Action", in conjunction with the screenshots. Ok, so it looks like it's a "sneaking" game mixed with lots of shooting. I took it home. Boy, was I wrong. I HATED IT. This was a game that not only relied on pure stealth mechanics and tested patience (something a 10 year old doesn't really have), but the storyline of the game was a major emphasized focal point, drawing in topics of warfare, politics, religion, and emotional understanding and development. This is an absolutely fantastic game. I bought it in 2002, and I'm taking it for another spin now in 2009. The gameplay and storyline are both fantastic, even for someone who has completed it countless times before. One of my favourite games of all time, and this series has many of my favourite video game characters.

I dont think its the best game for the system - FF7 was my favorite but this game for what it is, story, action, and strategy is very good.

I loved this game a shatload. All the others were really good too, snake eater being better than sonso of liberty. But all are great games

Hands Down! I mean now! this game is a masterpiece done with creative art! It has a true emotinal feel to it. The main character, Snake is awesome! Smart plot great game!

A fantastic game that has its faults, but I wouldn't do the game justice if I gave it less than 5 stars. This game has excellent gameplay and a well done, complex story. Another poster is correct in saying the game is too short, but this is a game you will likely find yourself playing through more than once. The only other bad part of the game is that once in a while the movie scenes will really start to ramble and go wildly off the storyline. That said, this game is not to be missed if you are a PlayStation or PS2 owner.

Terrific game...intriging storyline, awesome voice cast, & enough twists & turns for a replay value. Eagerly awaiting Metal Gear Solid 2.

Everyone at ign.com thinks that MGS is the best Playstation game. I have to disagree. It is a very good game with a good story and great dialogue, but it only takes around 10 hours to beat your first time through. After that, you can go through in as little as 6 hours without skipping dialogue. I do enjoy playing it, and it is fun, but don't expect an unbeliveably good game that is better than FF7.
