Dick Vitale makes me long for the gentler, quieter days of Howard Cosell. Ok, we know he's way too loud. Ok, we know he wears on the nerves of whoever gets stuck calling the game with him. We know he has a Duke and ACC bias that is OUTRAGEGOUS. And we know he worships coaches ad nauseum. AND, for all of you, I want you to notice the following this year as you listen to Dickie V. SHREIK through a game: (1)It's trifecter instead of trifecta, (2)he will say the words bottom line at least twenty (20) times a game, and (3)he will find at least five(5) times a game to give one of his lists, whether its Diaper Dandies, toughest conferences, etc., all in the interest of self-promotion. These lists will have nothing to do with the game. Trust me on these three things, and when the season starts and we are subjected to this ear trash, email me and tell me I'm right.

I love Dick Vitale he is college basketball. Like John Madden is Football. Dick Vitale can get a little too excited but when he does it make everyone who is watching excited he gets his audience to feel his passion for the game. John Madden is boring and makes some of the stupidest comments in all commentary. Dick Vitale will forever be a legend in broadcasting for a reason he's good

It was fun to watch Vitale several drafts ago, apropos of the high number of international players being selected, enter a jingoistic rant about how many of them would be flops, and how the American college player is still the best source of talent. My favorite statement Vitale made was that international players didn't get the job done 30-35 times a season, like college players do. Which is patently absurd. Considering that roughly half of NCAA players' games are blowouts against inferior competition, and that 22-year-old college seniors are often facing kids 18 and 19 years old, I would say that the Europeans are the ones getting the job done. They only play 15-20 games per season, but they're playing professional basketball, versus guys who are 25-30 years old. Plus, while all American prospects are still facing even worse competition in high school, international players can go pro at age 16, giving them at least 2 more years of true development. I could go on, but this underscores the utter irrationality of most of Vitale's viewpoints. Shrill catchphrases shouted at the top of one's lungs rarely make for a convincing (or in Vitale's case, lucid) argument, and I would be happy to see Dukie V. be shown the door.

Dick Vitale represents ESPN perfectly. No substance, all hot air. The man thrives on being loud and flamboyant. He's a PTPer BABY!. The best thing that could happen for college basketball is to have this guy die of a sudden stroke or just get run over by a semi. I cannot even watch college basketball on ESPN if he is on. He is an apologist as well. Vitale could be the anti-christ. There is no logical explanation for this waste of human skins popularity.

I really like Dickie V. His enthusiasm for the game of college basketball is unparalleled; I don't think anyone can dispute that. He seems to like every NCAA basketball team, although he is especially partial to UNC and Duke. He can be an insightful commentator when his excitement doesn't get in the way, which I'll admit, isn't that often. Still, I like the energy that he brings to the booth, I think it makes the game fun. I admit, he does come on very strong, too strong for some people, so I can see why some folks don't like him announcing games.

Love his enthusiasm, but he's just not good at his assigned job, which is to analyze the game he's covering. Although if you're a UNC or Duke fan, you'd love him, because you could turn on any Vitale-covered game (whether UNC/Duke are in it or not) and get to hear him go on and on about how special your programs are.

May be good at his trade, but his bias against High School players is a joke. He took it as far as to denounce LeBron James, obviously the future of the league, yet we was on Carmelo's bags after one year? He's just bitter these big time kids aren't giving him anything to talk about. GET WITH THE TIMES, DICK! College Basketball has lost most of it's luster. As a basketball player, you only go to college if you're not good enough to go straight to the big show. Education matters none to these street kids.

I used to love Vitale. I still think he's funny once in a while. His passion is great. But overall I've gotten sick of him, he screams all that crap of his and he is just annoying as hell. He does know the game well, and when he's serious and not screaming he's pretty good. He does have a major ego. But what really stinks about him is that he kisses Duke's ass so much and he is so biased toward Duke.

he's well informed and obviously has passion for the game, but he gets more excited about college basketball than most people do about sex.

Who cares is he has a smile on his face all the time and has the enthusiasim of a little kid. How can you not love that??? Dick Vitale has personality, love for the sport of college basketball, integrity and compassion and in general people love him. He's a very kind man, who represents college basketball with enthusiasm and energy that gets peoples attention. Dick is the greatest and I applaud his broadcasting style.

I know his calls can get annoying, but he is a college hoops legend and has more passion for this game than any person I have seen. Vitale is one of the best on and off tv.

Ya gotta love him, baby!!! Every game he is a PTPer! He never takes a game off. He can get as excited about Stony Brook vs. Marist as he can for Maryland-Duke.
