No doubt one of the best of all time on SNL. Too bad he hasn't done anything good since. Probably should do more writing and forget the movies.

He was great and my second favorite castmember next to Phil Hartman of course.
comedyalliance 07/05/2008
Another contibutor to great SNL characters but also alittle too rubber facey. Choppin brocolli is prob my fave because he was a normal guy but the church lady always cracked me up because there's real over zealous religious ladies like that
louiethe20th 02/28/2008
A multi-talented and a very gifted man.
CanadaSucks 02/27/2008
Serviceable. . .but one could imagine the show without him. . .
badgerfan 02/27/2008
He is always funny and is so versitile. One of my favorites has to be when he is Ross Perot and is driving with the Admiral. I love Hans and Frans and Massive Head-Wound Harry. Choppin' Brocoli is great. I like Lyle, the affeminant heterosexual. Of course there is Garth and many many more.
babymoondancer 05/09/2007
I will adore DaCa til the day I die. I love Garth so much!!
Bubblehead0774 7 06/02/2005
Did he ever do a bad skit. If he did I can't recall. Probably hed the most air time of any cast member in history, and theres a reason. Lorne Michaels said that of all the cast members who ever left, Dana Carvey would be the hardest to replace. That says it all.
southparker9 04/19/2005
Very good at impersonations. A good cast member through and through. Should have stayed on the show.
finzleft 04/01/2005
Greatest talent to grace the SNL stage, most versital. Took every role and put his own touch on it.
jakemr33 12/13/2004
My favorite Dana Carvey moment was when he and Adam Sandler were Italian waiters. You like-a the pepper? say when? A gratzi Good times.
happer 07/08/2004
I just love Dana. He is hilarious. I just love his Ross Perot impression. Can I finish? He is awesome and one of the greatest SNL will ever see.
marcm9999 06/03/2004
One of the funniest comedians of all time. I cannot say the word chickens without thinking of his ridiculously funny skit about his being a Chinese guy who wrote a Broadway play about chickens.
DiamondDavid 05/27/2004
Probably my favorite cast member. Unfortunately, he hasn't had quite the success he had after leaving SNL. If he were to return I might watch again. He was awesome as so many characters: George H.W. Bush, Perot, Church Lady (his and Hartman's skit with Hartman as Jimmy Swaggart was hilarious), Hans, and of course, Garth.

talented

The Best! Garth Algar Forever!
snl_luvah 01/07/2004
Great impressionist, musically talented, Dana is a gifted, versatile & influential performer. Among the very best SNL'ers.
jamestkirk 10/02/2003
Garth, Church Lady and playing Bush I ("prudent..") were great.
President -X-D 09/08/2003
He was so excellent on SNL that I'm still surprised that he hasn't returned to it. His other work is not funny. He thrived on this show.
Eliteoomph 09/08/2003
Hellarious!!!!!

Garth is King.
JimmyInAtlanta 06/21/2003
Carvey was great! The cast of Hartman, Jackson, Carvey, Miller, Hooks, Nealon, and, of course, Myers, were a great team. Hans/Franz still cracks me up. His Carson meets Arsenio skit was hilarious. His Perot skit w/ the Vice Prez Admiral who was shell-shocked (Hartman) was great too. His McCartney was great too. Carvey started out hurtin' (remember 'chicken make great house pet'?), but he's the shizzat.
hannahbloom 05/22/2003
i can honestly say there is not one thing dana does that is not hilarious...he's the greatest
grille101 05/15/2003
I just watched a replay of SNL where Dana did Jerry Brown imitation, I was dying. When he was on the show he was absolutely great. I even paid to see his movies during his short lived movie career Terrible movies but he was great on SNL
Redoedo 03/07/2003
Probably one of the greatest SNL castmembers of all time. He truly was a Master of Disguise, and out of all the actors and skits, Dana Carvey's skits were my favorite. I loved his impressions of President Bush and Ross Perot, as well as his performance on the hilarious churchlady. My favorite scene of his, while not very memoriable, was his "Choppin' Broccoli" song. Dana Carvey redefined SNL and we need him back on the show now more than ever.
Casey McFarland 02/27/2003
I think he's funny, but not funny enough for the number 5 spot!!!
Sean Connery 02/25/2003
Him? Funny?
bosguy 01/29/2003
great impressions
snlgirl 01/23/2003
I looove Dana Carvey! Garth was one of the best characters, along with the church lady and G.W. Bush Sr. He seemed to be able to do any impression you could think of. One of my favorite Dana Carvey moments was when he did the brocoli song. Does anyone remember that? That was awesome!
skipbar 01/20/2003
Very good and had the help of being part of a great cast
Jason1972 01/16/2003
A great impressionist, the Garth character was really good.
BEBEBLOO 01/12/2003
Dana Carvey is one of the best! Church Lady, Hans & Franz, Garth......the list goes on & on!
lukskywlkr. 12/25/2002
Contrary to popular belief, his impression of George Bush Sr. was not that on-target. It was more annoying that funny. Carvey more than made up for that with his Church Lady character and his bit as Wayne's sidekick Garth. Wasn't he also the one who did the bit about chickens making lousy house pets? That was hilarious.

I don't know why so many people now are forgetting Dana's contribution to SNL. It may, I suspect, be related to his poor showing at the box office with movies such as 'Master of Disguise'. He's not a substantial actor, certainly, but that probably has more to do with his on screen presence than his actual abilities. Compared to Chevy Chase he has as good, if not better, comic timing, but he's also less commanding. Even for comedy, charisma and on screen presence make a difference (all of the well known comics have great presence, beyond talent itself). But for SNL I think he offered many amazingly on key performances that defined the SNL show and cast of the late 1980s and early 1990s. His Bush, Church Laty, Garth, and other performances are unforgettable.
Manlyman1516 12/13/2002
Amazing Bush impression
Damifino 07/07/2002
Extremely versatile and always dead-on hilarious. His stand-up show is a real treat, too (just wish he did stand-up more often). Plus, his short-lived ABC series (1995-96) was one of the funniest things I've ever seen--its cancellation showed to me that the networks are just not ready to take a risk. His characters are classics--Church Lady, Jimmy Stewart, Ross Perot, George Bush, et al. Well, isn't that special??!!
tworebel 07/02/2002
He is one of the best comics I've ever seen! Church Lady and his Ross Perot inpression are hilarious.
couchpotato 02/25/2002
One of the most underrated comedians out there. He should be up there with Jim Carrey. I adore Dana Carvey.
ellajedlicka21 02/14/2002
The incredible impressions he did of George H.W. Bush he did nearly make you lose your breath laughing.
Potch1214 01/28/2002
Dana Carvey was one of the best SNL ever had. His characters were always well thought out and funny. I would have loved to have seen Carvey and John Belushi together. His impersonations are almost always dead on.
MedgarEvers 08/29/2001
"Choppin' Broccoli" is one of the most clever and amusing skits I've ever seen. Dana has some real talent.
lancelvr93 07/30/2001
1 star because Robert Downey Jr. deserves to be #1!! I just LLOOVVEE Dana Carvey though..but I'm doin this for RDj
Mahattma 07/10/2001
Dana Carvey was by far the best thing to happen to Saterday Night Live, in fact you cannot even mention the show without someone mentioning his name. He completely revitalized SNL and brought it much-needed talent. Dana's perfected impressions of Perot, Bush, and Carson (To name a few). And also displayed his characters as The Church Lady, Garth, and Massive Headwound Harry. All these things make him the ideal castmember.
rolodo 07/01/2001
what a talent!
granfalloon 06/25/2001
This guy is a master of impressions and also has the ability to create hilarious original personas!
afterglow70 06/09/2001
Party on Garth!
DamnNearPerfec t 04/07/2001
Dana Carvey is, in my opinion a comedic genius. His HBO stand-up in San Fransisco assured me of that. His contributions to SNL included characters such as The Church Lady, Garth of Waynes World, Ross Perot, Hans and Frans (with Kevin Nealon), George Bush. He does great impersonations, and has a real talent for writing comedy.
callmetootie 04/07/2001
Dana Carvey started out on SNL excellent, with great characters and clever lines. But, when they stopped showing Church Lady, his career went down the tubes, and we notcied how annoying he was as George Bush, and that he didn't fit the cast anymore.
Lyrical 03/29/2001
Welllll ! Isn't that special. LOL
sectioneight40 77 02/08/2001
He produced some of the best skits on SNL
