Remember when the right wingers repeatedly asked then candidate Barack Obama (and continuing after he was elected President) about his religious beliefs....specifically about Christianity?(Overweight teabagger questioning candidate/President Obama, putting on his/her best southern accent: "Are yew a CHRISTIAN? Have yew accepted Jesus Chrahst as yore personal lord and save-yore?")Well, it's time the right wingers peppered Willard "Mitt" Romney with some questions about HIS Mormon beliefs. For example, here are 10 amazing facts about Mormonism, none of which, as far as I can see, are in the Holy Bible. I'd be interested in hearing Mitt, who was a Bishop in the Mormon church, respond to some of these Mormon beliefs....fair is fair, right?1. Mormons can become gods and goddesses.2. Goddesses will spend eternity in full submission to their god-husband.3. Mormon women will give birth "forever and ever" to spirit-babies.4. Mormon men can have multiple wives in heaven-eternal polygamy.5. Heavenly Father is an exalted man who lives with his goddess wife, Heavenly Mother, on a planet near the great star Kolob.6. American Indians are descendants of the wicked Lamanites, who were Israelites that God cursed with dark skin.7. God the Father had sex with Mary to conceive Jesus, who is the half brother of Lucifer.8. All Christian churches are an abomination.9. Mormons need 4 secret handshakes to get into the Celestial heaven.10. Joseph Smith revealed that the actual Garden of Eden is in Jackson County, Missouri.

As with any candidate for presidency, you never really know what's going to happen until they take office. Is he any better than President Obama? That answer won't truly reveal itself unless he becomes the next President. Mitt Romney isn't necessarily a radical Latter-Day Saint, but speaking from experience within the church, that could change very quickly. He's been very quiet about his religion for the most part and that's probably helping his cause for now. But anyone that has studied Mormonism to any degree should keep this quote in mind when running to the polls on Election Day: "You and each of you do covenant and promise that you will pray and never cease to pray to Almighty God to avenge the blood of the prophets upon this nation, and that you will teach the same to your children and to your children's children unto the third and fourth generation." ----The Prophet Brigham Young. Even though the church claims this commandment isn't "holy" anymore, it shouldn't be forgotten. In the end, I don't think any one person can help the economy in our country, it will take more than one person to do so. If Mitt Romney does win the election, I wish him the best of luck and with any president, I would show some respect.

Running with Numbahs train of thought, at this point I don't think it much matters who is captain of the Titanic. Presidential candidate 2016 or 2020 will have it easy.
numbah16tdhaha 07/01/2012
As long as those in opposition can keep painting his being a Mormon as dangerous, he won't make it anywhere.UPDATE: It is interesting to me that nobody is fighting about anything this election cycle. RIA is a land of cynics and skeptics politically these days and rightfully so. In 2004 we fought a lot, in 2008, we fought some, but in 2012, we seem to have come to view the whole process as totally bogus. Romney and Obama ain't that different to those that have put down the little kool-aid sippy cup and put their thinking cap on...

This is a name that is on top of the list of Republican candidates. He ran for President in 2008. We need a strong contender to beat President Obama. Mitt Romney is a former Governor of Massachusetts and is Mormon. On June 2, 2011, he has announced he is running for President again. On the CNN Republican Candidate Debates, June 13, 2011, Romney mentioned he wants to debate Obama. Romney is a hot contender for President. His father, George W. Romney, served as United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development during President Richard Nixon's Administration (1969-73). I am more certain now I will be voting for Mitt Romney on June 5 and on November 6, 2012. I believe Mitt Romney will be the GOP delegates choice in August 27-30, 2012. Can't wait to hear who his choice of Vice-President will be? Update: Mitt Romney wants to repeal Obamacare and tear it apart. He would like to do away with this healthcare on his first day as President.
iReview 05/16/2012
I'll vote for him, but it is very clear that he is out of touch with the average American. Obama knows how to appeal to the masses, but I hope the average American is smart enough to realize that we need a whole body in office, not just a face.

Those who thought that 21 months was a long time for someone to campaign for the Oval Office will be exhausted by his campaign that will likely start next week.UPDATE: I have to say that he's showed an impressive amount of restraint in the last two years by actually waiting for the campaign to begin. I have to wonder if his strategy is to let the Palin Circus have its day, betting that it will flame out or implode well before the real race begins. UPDATE: I think everyone smells a winner in Romney except the Republicans. But he has the profile and resources to last through the early primaries, which are shaping up to look like those audition rounds on American Idol when every nut bar that thinks they have talent comes out for a shot at glory or humiliation.UPDATE: He outlasted Bachmann, Huntsman, Perry, Cain, Gingrich, Santorum, Paula Abdul AND Simon Cowell.

I have a newfound respect for this man when I watched him refuse to be sucked into a nasty personal attack about Obama like Newt. Romney did not fall into that childish, ugly trap but stuck to the President's policies that he disagreed with, instead of calling him a communist or unAmerican. This showed a lot of class. Regardless to what I think of Romney and his Mormon views he almost got my vote based on how much class and intelligence he showed. I have trouble with an organization that once promoted dark people as inferiors who could not get into the Heaven based on skin color. They changed but some of us remember when dark skinned people were not allowed in. Mormon Founder Joseph Smith had some very racist teachings. Glad all this changed but it still leaves a bad taste in some people's mind. To be fair some Southern Baptist had racist views too but at least they did not go so far as to say if you have black skin you cannot get into Heaven. In many instances a person's Religion controls what they will do and how they will act. It is also hard to break religious traditions and mindsets. Various Mormon teachers taught for yrs. the inferiority of blacks. Wonder how many educated qualified people of color Romney will have in his Cabinet or inner circle? How many qualified people of color has he hired? Just wondering. He is old enough when the Mormon religion taught the inferiority of people of color. This concerns me. I have many black friends and people of color are in my family!

I think he has a good chance at winning the 2012 presidential election. The things that might hold him back is his stance on social security and legalizing Romneycare (which is similiar to Obamacare) in his state.
Victor83 07/02/2011
Update: Changed the rating here from 4 to 5 stars, not because I am a Romney fan but because I think his RNC nomination is virtually in the bag. In reality, ol' Mitt is just a better looking, slicker version of the last President Bush-he is just another neocon who if elected would continue the policies of open borders, runaway spending, the insanity of the environmentalist agenda, etc. In the meantime however, Governor Romney will pretend to inch right-center-right while telling us why his healthcare legislation in Massachsetts was and is oh so different from Obamacare. At first tea partiers and true conservatives won't buy it, but they will begin to melt as they start to belive that this is the guy who has the best shot at getting Obama out of the Oval Office. That belief will also carry over to southern "Christian" voters-his major stumbling block in the 08 primaries-and it will be Mitt vs. His Lordship in November of 2012.Original Review, 11/13/2008: Romney's chances- first to win the nomination, and secondly to win the 2012 election- depend greatly on the direction the GOP takes over the next 2 to 4 years. If the party maintains its propensity to come off as center-left-center, Romney will have to run that way. If that happens, Obama will clean his clock. If the party moves back to the winning formula of conservatism, Romney would fit in well and have an excellent shot of being elected.

I have issues with Romney, but he has what it takes to remove the empty suit that currently occupies the office.

Probably currently the frontrunner for the Republican nomination right now. Being that he came in second place during the last primary season, this makes him heir apparent. What he makes of it is up to him. Republicans like to have their chain of command clear, and that benefits Romney. He ran a well-polished campaign in 2008, although his Mormonism might have hurt him in some of Southern primaries, along with his conflicted stands on abortions and gay rights. In response, he's made a hard push to the right on those issues, in an attempt to win over cultural conservatives, who make up a good portion of the GOP primary electorate. His business history as a leveraged buyout specialist could back to hurt him, especially in regards to job cuts made at companies he took over. In this political climate it could be very damaging if the opposition uses such information correctly. Such a tactic would be turning Romney's biggest strength (his business expertise) into a big liability--a la Karl Rove's swiftboat strategy in 2004. Also the health care mandates regime that he put in place in Massachusetts will be used against him in the primary. In fact, it is probably his biggest blind spot. The real question at this point is whether or not one of the conservatives like Palin will catch fire in the primary season, or if a dark horse candidate emerges. It should be noted that the majority of the big political money, the "bundlers" who bring in corporate campaign donations,as yet to make a commitment to any one of the candidates. Romney has scored about a third of these donors, but there's still some skepticism about his candidacy. Right now, he seems like their best bet, but too many question marks remain. This is as fluid a campaign field as I've seen in some time.

He's a good candidate, possibly the only Republican who could beat Obama. Unfortunately, to me it seems like he would do or say anything just to get elected. Prior to running for President in 2008, Mitt Romney served only one Term as Governor in Massachusetts. While Romney has experiance in buisness and His Father George Romney was President of the now defunct American Motors, his 1950s view of America seems out of touch with the realities of the 21st century. I think Romney would be good as the Chairman of the RNC but as a canidate I do not see Him winning the Nomination of the Party, let alone a general election.

Mitt Romney is the target of some pretty dishonest propaganda. While I think Mitt Romney needs to apologize for Romneycare, and clarify his position on progressivism, and learn a bit more from Glenn Beck, he's better than the hardcore progressives, like Mike Huckabee, Tim Pawlenty, Newt Gingrich, etc. He's also far more electable than Sarah Palin! Mitt Romney has been a consummate capitalist; he'll help to restore America's economy far better than the other options here on this list!
thedudeabidesl ebowski 12/30/2010
Mitt Romney is a reformer and Washington outsider. He was a successful businessman who helped turn around the Olympics before he took a massive deficit in liberal Mass. and turned it into a surplus without a broad-based tax increase. He understands the economy and that we need lower taxes, less government spending, free trade, and to invest in new technology to create jobs. He also understands we must continue the Bush-era defense policies and to secure our borders to keep America safe. Romney has the abillity to communicate with Americans on issues of great importance. Yes, he changed his positions on issues like abortion, gun control, and ethanol subsidies, but he has remained consistent on economic and foreign policy issues. Also, his Mass healthcare plan was a state plan that did not cut medicare or increase taxes like Obamacare.

Which Mitt Romney are we talking about? He changes his views all of the time. How can we trust this guy?

Mitt Romney is a Liberal Republican,a people pleaser. As governer when state passed same sex marriage in Ma he instructed the county clerks to get out as many marriage applications as they could because of the law being challenged,He take a fence riding approach on abortion

When I look at Mitt Romney, and when I listened to him talk, I see nothing that is impressive. In fact, I feel deeply that he has Chicago style tendencies, and could be a corrupt style business man. I cannot really prove these hunches, but I tend to side with my gut on most things. He would be a another self proclaimed Maverick in my opinion.

Haven't we tried the Big government conservative aproach already? Hasn't it failed? Didn't we loose the race on big republican spending and a reckless foreign policy? Don't we want a president that does not ask permission from unelected supranational organizations (Like the CFR) that seek to replace our constitutional republic with a world government? We don't need any more neocons.

Mormons believe that the family is central to God's plan. Mormons believe that families can be together forever. Mormons believe that marriage is ordained of God and should only be between one man and one woman. Polygamy has not been a practice of the church since 1890. Mormons believe in the resurrected Christ and that prophets still exist on the earth. Mormons believe in being tithed. Mormons believe in giving generous fast offerings to help those in need. Mormons provide tons of humanitarian aid when crisis strikes other countries. Mormons believe in living a law of health that prohibits alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. Mormons believe in baptism by immersion. Mormons believe in taking the Sacrament during church on Sunday to remember Christ. Mormons believe in God the Eternal Father, in His Son Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. There is so much good that is practiced in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I would vote for Romney not because he is Mormon, but because he is the best candidate. I just wish he would be more willing to talk about his religion, because it really is the Church of Jesus Christ and it is a good religion that teaches people to be good and Christlike. What do non-Mormon Christians believe? If there is just one God that non-Mormon Christians believe in, why are there so many different "Christian" churches that practice and preach different interpretations of the Bible? What do non-Mormon Christians believe happens after death? What do non-Mormon Christians believe is the purpose of life?

How can Fitman say his faith is no wackier than all the other faiths of the other Candidates? He obviously has not studied all of the Religions for a comparison. Christianity makes much more sense if you believe in a loving good God. The fact that God would redeem mankind from its orignal sin status and invite all into a relationship with him by a substitute sacrifice (His Son) is better than believing you have to have sex with many wives and have as many children as you can to get acceptance! Other Religions have to do and do and dowork and work and work then hope for the best. In Jesus he says done, done, done because he paid on that Cross for us. I would not vote for someone with a strange cult religion. Ones faith says a whole bunch about a person and what they will do and act upon. Unless they are only giving lip service to their belief-system. Which unfortunately is most people.
Liveitup 06/30/2010
Iris you cannot compare the claims of Jesus to any vision of an Angel not even one named Moroni. Jesus wins hands down. That angel Moroni that Joseph Smith saw did not give anyone the power to walk on water, heal the sick and raise the dead. No eyewitnesses saw Smith do any thing spectacular but marry and impregnant several wives all at the same time. Not earth-shattering. Jesus also welcomed all after he fulfilled his destiny of dying as a human sacrifice and payment of all sin-debts. He did not say blacks (people) and browns not allowed, like Smith. This idea of sex in Heaven is similar to Muslims. All can recieve Salvation from Jesus said go in to all the world and welcome people in from every tribe, tongue and nation.
NOWAYRENEE 06/29/2010
I would seriously recommend before you vote for anyone to study what they faith and Religion they practice. The Mormon Founder and Religion is way out there! What people base their faith and beliefs in is important and not to be lightly dismissed. I guess it's okay to support a Conservatives nut but when it came to Obama they tried to crucify (no pun intended) the man because of his former Pastor Jeremiah Wright. Hypocrites is what I'm thinking. I stay consistent and would not want to vote for either one if Obama had not denounced Jeremiah Wright. Romney is yet to denounce his.Is this is too close to giving him enormous power to push a button and end it all for us all if (another Angel named) Moroni said do to it ? Better think long and hard people. P.S. I would also not vote for a Scientologist for President (of the US) But I will go see their movies if they are real entertaining.
Will Tanner 06/28/2010
Ok, for those of you who wouldn't vote for Romney because of his affiliation with the Mormon church, you are grossly misinformed about many things. First, the Mormon church has NO plans of ruling America. The Mormon church has high moral standards and is conservative in nature AND is always one of the first if not the only organizations that respond to humanitarian aid needs. They are Christians, who read the Bible and also read a book called the Book of Mormon to act as ANOTHER testament of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon reiterates and helps clarify many truths found in the Bible. The Mormon religion is not based on Joseph Smith, it is based on Christ and His principles. To some the church might seem secretive, but they mistake secretive for SACRED. Sacred is a word that doesn't hold much weight these days. Precious little is kept sacred anymore, and the reason that the Mormon church doesn't broadcast certain things publicly is because they hold those things as sacred and ask that the general public can respect that. The Mormons don't want to rule, they simply want to serve when and wherever they can. Romney, whom I know personally, is a fantastic candidate! He is financially brilliant, and a exceptional leader. He turned around companies on the brink of bankruptcy and within a short amount of time turned them into multi-million dollar companies--with minimal to zero lay-offs or defections. He is just the man for the job. And if the only reason that you aren't voting for him is because of his religion, of which you know little to nothing about--and perhaps that which you think you know is in all actuality completely false--then I feel sorry for you. America was willing to look past Obama's outrageously radical "black-supremist" religion and not past Romney's faith that has a long track record of humanitarian relief and of service? Forgive me America, but that is pathetic. Become informed, and the last place to become informed about Mormonism is YouTube or anti-mormon sites. And think, when you listen to what those anti-Mormon sites have to say, what would this person, or group of people have to gain from slandering this religion??? More times than not, it is a ex-member that at some point became offended and wanted to justify their actions by slandering their former religion. Sad, but more often than not, true. I hope this helps some of you out there that are teetering as to whether you would support Romney in 2012...good luck.
keepingit4real 06/02/2010
Does he really believe some man named Joseph Smith saw an Angel who told him the real truth was not in the Bible but from some Angel who appeared in the 18th Century handed Smith some other book proclaiming that there are humans who are superior (it used to be whites only) and some of them are even gods, if so then he needs a shrink not the Office of the Presidency!

Oh dear God! That's just great! All we need is a cult leader for the United States to make things get better. Let's all put on the tin foil hats for this one! Joeseph Smith (Mormon founder) was killed by an angry mob, Jesus is supposed to come back to Jerusalem and Missouri, in 1978 Black men finally allowed to become preists, and women are still not allowed. Personally, I can handle the poligamy thing, but once I found out that you couldn't drink coffee I was gone!
freeman1 03/24/2010
I do not like what he did in Massachusetts on the universal health care which has hurt the state. I know he seems to be a good business man, but he appears to be lacking in fiscal responsibility.
djp4him 02/20/2010
I'm not so sure about Romney. He was caught quite a few times not telling the "whole" truth which concerns me about someone wanting to be the leader of my country. He seems to have the ability to do the job because of his financial expertise but we don't need another Clinton that has the ability to do a good job and talks out of the wrong end of his body. The other thing that concerns me is in the area of his spirituality. I am concerned that he may be part of the Mormon churches plan to take control of the United States and lead us down the wrong road since their religion is based on a "MAN" and not Almighty God. I'm sorry if that hurts anyone's feelings but I'm just being truthful and I just could not bring myself to vote for him. Actually, I will amend that, the only way I would vote for him is if my only other choice was Barrack HUSSEIN Obama.
Jake_Armitage 02/06/2010
I think Mr. Romney actually has a lot of financial smarts and would do fairly okay if he was president. But every time he opens his mouth he fumbles over his words, speaks half-truths or deliberate lies (caught red-handed fibbing about his father marching with MLK), and sounds awkward. He is actually one of the republicans I would consider voting for, he is fairly moderate on issues I care about. It's just too bad he is not a great speaker, he doesn't mean to do it obviously, it just happens.
psjudd 02/05/2010
What we need most in the oval office is someone who will not let the power go to his head. From my observations with Romney's past helping everyone from failing business ventures (like the Olympics) to people who's homes have been damaged in a natural disaster, he appears to be a person who is genuinely going to try to help American citizens and not just try to build his ego or line the coffers of special interest groups.
viewsguy 12/26/2009
Mitt Romney ran businesses, rescued the 2002 olympics, and ran a state in which he cut taxes, cut spending, provided free-market healthcare to 97% of the people, and stood up for english in the classroom. Mitt Romney would be a president who would stabilize the economy, reduce taxes, and defend this country. He has not always been consistent on issues which is why I give him a 4.
Kahern1532 12/11/2009
Being from Mass, i saw Romney go hands deep in the Big Dig when part of it collapsed on traffic. He didn't tell people to go in there and risk their lives, he put a hard hat on, looked at the blue prints and went in himself. He sees a problem and he fixes it. The mass Health definitely has kinks, however its not available to everyone. You must qualify for it. Its no public options. I have great faith in this man and I think he is the perfect man for this job!!!
DifferentLight 12/04/2009
With a failing economy and failing morals, Romney has both the business sense and conservative values that is needed to be a successful president. As one of the most moderate Republican candidates, he is the only one who stands a chance at stealing the presidency from Obama. Many conservatives opposed Romeny because he was Mormon, but looking at what they got instead I think they are beginning to regret the decision. Compared to Obama, Romney looks like a bible-thumping baptist preacher. That, together with all of the attention the Mormon church is getting over Prop 8 in California, makes Romney look more and more in line with what most conservative voters are really after - a solid president with good morals. He will still have a hard time convincing his base, but after that he should be the most qualified to take the Republican party to the white house. Most Americans don't have a problem with Mormons (look at Harry Reid). How well do you think Palin or Huckabee would fare in Massachusetts or Michigan? They don't stand a change. More and more I think conservatives are realizing they aren't choosing between Romney and Huckabee, they are chosing between Romney and Obama.

I mean no disrespect to followers of Mormonism, but I could never vote for a Mormon. They are too clannish, clubish, and secretive. Fine for them, not good for America.

The right guy 100% no doubt. He reminds me a lot of Ronald Reagan. So if he's the 2012 GOP nominee it would be like 1980 when Reagan beat Carter in a landslide election. Only in 2012 Romney will beat Obama in a landslide election

Mitt Romney would bring to the White House a much needed virtue, one that has escaped past candidates & presidents for some years...and that is truthfulness. Personally I'm tired of the spin and outright fabrications that seem to be required in elections. I want a candidate who tells me the truth without embelishment. Thus would require a man of honor, principle, morality and perception. I believe that Mr. Romney fits this discription. His unfortunate run in 2008 & susequent failure is probably due to his disconnect with the general public. His advisors were too distant from the voters and other than some general rhetoric nis platform mis read the American voter. The past administration was an American disaster in the making and unfortunately the agenda has continued and now it is becoming a reakity.Attacking your opponent is not what the public wants. They want jobs...jobs that hold a future. not some shovel ready gov't project which will be gone in a few months or one that is seeded and than disappears when the fed support evaporates. They want the gift of responsibility promised them by out founding fathers. I believe that the average American truly believes and understands the tremendous satisfaction and pride that living a responsible life delivers.Specifically they want tort reform, loopholeless legislation for campaign contribution, elimination of special interests ompact on our elected officials, a closer connect with our representatives, a sweeping change in civil service and most of all a return to common sensethese are the issues that are thorns in our sides.Unfortunately in your run for the presidency, you listened to the wrong people...next time, and i trully hope there will be one on your part, try employing some grass root folks who can bring you down to reality when the potentially enormous problems that you may face, overtake common sense. As I read the current political mess, I feel you are the most capable one to platform the republican party back to what is initially stood for, real cpnservatism and public responsibility.I sincerely hope that that you consider re-running and I personally would be honored to assi.st you in any way my talents would best serve,al brown[email protected]
