I have a black belt in Mai Tai.

The first time I had a Mai Tai I was in Monterey, CA. The drink looks very festive with its umbrellas, but taste like drinking nothing but 5 different rums mixed together-ewww. The drink is so alcohol laden you feel drunk after one sip. I tried them other places, and the drink is just horrible. IF you like the taste of alcohol this is for you, but it not skip it!

I think the only reason to have a Mai Tai is to be festive at a themed bar or event. It is an incredibly sweet, tropical tasting, rum-based drink. If you have sweet tooth, you might like it, but I personally think it is not an appealing mix of flavors. I prefer fruit-based drinks more than syrupy drinks.

The Mai Tai is a great drink, but it has so many variations that most bartenders won't make it the same way. The original recipes call for ingredients that most bars just won't have, but the standard ingredients you will find anywhere are light and dark rum, triple sec or another orange liqeur, orange juice, pineapple juice, and grenadine to top it off.

I drank plenty of them when I was in Maui for a conference a few years back, and they were great then. But for some reason I haven't had one since.

Made well, pretty good, if deceptive. Unfortunately most bartenders, particularly those in Hawaii, make it far too sweet.

Tasty, but not one I'd order myself.

Wasted away with these on the island of Maui. They can catch up with you fast!

Very nice, it tastes great but should be approached with caution. I can think of few cocktails that have more alcohol in that taste this nice.

Best consumed in the Hawaiian Islands.
