Al is a flake plain and simple. He and Chris Collinsworth seem to forget there are fans of at least the 2 teams watching their broadcasts each Sunday night during football season. It never stops amazing me that they really can't be unbiased and call the game down the middle they both take a side, generally with the winning team forgetting about the fans on the other side of the camera.

I guess he's ok....but any list that says "personality"-and Don Cherry isn't on it!Al ("Does you believe in miracles?Michaels..)is ok,but ..if Don Cherry claimed to have invented hockey on air,I'd believe him.I think one list of the all-time top 10 Canadiens in history has Cherry on it.Noboby wears pimp suits my man..everyone else on dis list put together puts me to sleep compared to Cherry.

Al Michaels is one of the most famous announcers in American sports and on the whole does a great job. It was time for him to move on from MNF but he did a good job while he was on there.

The "creme de la creme" of sports announcers. Two events come to mind. During the earthquake in San Francisco, as the World Series game was about to begin, he was watching the tv monitors from all over the city, explaining to America what was happening throughout the city he knew well and loved. We all lived the catastrophe through his narration. The other most memorable contribution he made to Americana was in 1980, "Do you believe in miracles? YES!!!!" He is an American icon. One of an inordinate number of outstanding sports announcers turned out by Syracuse University.

The lethal combination of Al Michaels, annually rotating & equally miserable female sideline reporters, along with ridiculous openings to plug some popstar wannabes new album OR some inane, overhyped ABC primetime shows that couldn't have competed with Gilligan's Island in the early 70's...make Monday Night Football a complete pain in the ass to watch. The only reason I watch the game is because I usually have money on the line AND b/c I watch it at a bar where there is enough background noise that Al Michaels voice thankfully gets drowned out. Did ABC ever consider that MNF is diving because Al Michaels is a total bore and lives off cliches? Is the dismissal of Mr. Michaels never an option when ABC tests focus groups on MNF appeal? Well, it should be...he deserves the ax so that real football fans can start watching again. We need the passion again coming from the announcer.

I think it's interesting to note that while ABC continues to shuffle everyone else around and fire and hire everyone else, the ratings are still not good. Has anyone noticed the statistical proof that since Al became the main guy the ratings have gone down steadily?

After many years of solid work, Michaels' know-it-all attitude and blatant infusion of his politics into his play-by-play calls have tarnished the reputation of a once outstanding broadcaster. Michaels has clearly jumped the shark. A candidate to follow in his footsteps as a jack-of-all-trades announcer with skill is Mike Breen.

Do you believe in miracles! Al is the best. Simply put. He brings a distinctive voice, professionalism and class to the booth. He's not too full of himself as well. He was on Howard Stren's show and exposed a crank caller to Peter Jennings during the OJ fiasco. On MNF he let his political leaning show in some of his comments - Republican BTW.

How can you even question Al Michaels as a broadcaster? He is wise, witty, opinionated, and brings FOOTBALL in to our homes as if it is right down the street at the local park. A top ten football announcer, no questions asked. He is a Hall Of Fame Broadcaster, and that can never be taken from him...Monday Night Football, The World Series, and The Olympics...His epic work has cemented his mark!

Al Michaels is great. He's lost some steam in recent years though. I don't blame him for this; I blame ABC and Monday Night Football in general. MNF was a fantastic program and I would wait with baited breath for the show every week. Things changed in the late 90s though. The first blow was when Frank Gifford left. Frank was not the best broadcaster and wasn't the smartest guy in that booth, but he had great presence and commanded respect. Shortly thereafter Boomer Esiason came in and Dan Deirdorf was run out of town (good riddance). Boomer was decent, but he tended to talk too much and was a bore in general. Around this time, the show itself started to change. More and more often, MNF would use pop music to go to or come back from commercials. Celebrities would show up in the booth (not coincidentally celebs with ABC shows to plug). There is a place for flashiness in sports broadcasting but MNF started to get a bit obnoxious about it... and missed the mark with their core audience. Boomer and Al spent a few years together, only to have the ABC execs panic due to low ratings. Not realizing that the low ratings were due to freak injuries to featured teams and NOT to the program as a whole, they made the biggest change of all, jumping the shark for good. Dennis Miller on MNF. A non-sports guy trying to fit in on the biggest stage of all (save for the Super Bowl). But Miller was not the worst thing. Dan Fouts. A complete moron. Dan Deirdorf is a rocket scientist compared to Fouts. Fouts seemed to think it was his job to try to be funny like Miller was, and instead of giving quality football analysis spent too much time giggling and playing the fool. The show again changed to incorporate more technical effects and misguided ideas, such as the always-annoying bit where the players introduce themselves by name and speak the name of their alma mater. The Miller / Fouts experiment came to an end, not coincidentally when John Madden came available. Michaels and Madden SHOULD have been a dream team, but both seem to be burnt out. Michaels has held the fort while MNF went from an enviable sport broadcast to a three ring circus. Madden would have fit in back in 1993 when his second wind kicked in working for the then-new Fox Sports, but Madden has been unable to find a third-wind with MNF. Madden is all about the games. He doesn’t care one bit about anything other than the play on the field. Madden tends to become uncomfortable when the subject moves away from football and this doesn’t help him to fit into MNF as it’s presented today. The show is difficult to watch now. I am sick to death of Hank Williams Jr. and the incredibly bad game-specific lyrics he “sings” every week. I was disgusted at the fact that Brittany Spears showed up singing that stoopid song during week one. I want to watch a football game. I don’t want to see a bunch of has-been, hanger-on celebrities during my football game. Football and sports in general, are an ESCAPE for me and many others. I watch to get away from all those things that irritate me and that includes bad actors, bad actresses, and bad singers. MNF is almost unwatchable for me these days and I don’t see it getting any better. I’d be surprised if it lasts as a network show for another 10 years. I see it being regulated to ESPN long before then.

Of every announcer who ever lived, Al Michaels has the most soundbites permanently imbeded in my mind. "And it's complete! To Isaac Bruce! Do you believe it? Touchdown Rams!!!" "He did WHAT?!" "Home run! The Cubbies will have to wait for another summer!" "Going, going, gone! We'll see you tomorrow night!" And, most importantly: "Do you believe in miracles? YES!"

I think Al Michaels, more than any other announcer, has the ability to "capture the moment". My personal favorite Michaels call is the final play of Super Bowl 34, when Dyson was tackled a yard short of the endzone. "Can he get in? NO he canNOT!" I think it was the perfect call for the moment and he said what everyone in the world was thinking.

Al "I Wanna Assume the Best Marketable Qualities of Whoever My Partner Is" Michaels. He's not a Jew, is he? No...you're kidding?! Ask Al what he was thinking when Ken Dryden messed up his "Do believe in miracles" line by blurting: "Unbelievable!" right after it, like a jock-head dick man. I think that when Al followed up on that with "The impossible dream comes true!" after the Finland game, that he had bound and gagged Dryden and had him stuffed in a corner so that Dryden didn't step on his line. And ever since, Al has stepped on anyone else's lines to make sure they didn't get better approval ratings than him, because he is an insecure moron who gets by via relationships with Jewish execs. By the way, Al's memorable lines were all scripted.

His role appears to me to be to flatter Madden's ego more than the last guy even. If Madden flat out says the opposite of what he last said he just changes his opinion. I am amazed people are so impressed by such glad handing and accuse the likes of Collinsworth of bias (against whom for whom, by the way).

he is the most knowledgeable announcer in football, and if you have caught any of the Monday Night Football games this year he is actually too smart for John Madden. Madden is constantly in shock after Michaels puts some real insight into the game, and just doesn't know what to say, so he just goes back to pointing out the obvious to try to make himself sound half as knowledgeable as Michaels. Michaels is the best at what he does, and that is why he has been the staple in the ever-changing MNF booth.

Did any pick up on the weirdness of the comment Al Michaels made at halftime of the Packers-Dolphins game? Michael Wilbon said something about the Democratic Party and Al Michaels responded with a suggestive glance saying "Elephants never forget." What does this weirdness mean? I think Al is the elephant and he doesn't want to forget the one night of passion that he and Wilbon shared and the promise they made to each other that neither will ever break. So you shouldn't forget either - that Al Michaels is weird!

I just don't get it. Al Michaels is boRRRing. He had one great line: "Do you believe in miracles?", and that made his career. Beyond that, he has done decent play-by-play, but his facts are frequently wrong. He's viewed as versatile enough to do any sport only because he doesn't know any of them very well.

I've heard a lot of negative comments about Michaels' ego over the years and never understood a single one of them. He's one of the best and most unassuming sportscasters in the business, equally adept at football as he is at baseball. Incredibly knowledgeable and works well with everyone, even Dennis Miller.
