Was this a snoozer or what? I figured out that this flick was something to avoid, but I had promised Martha to go with her. I was taking on a load in the bar when Martha smoked me out, loaded me up, drove to the theater, and there I was--TRAPPED!Nearest I can figure out, some Black guy drives an old bat around in various cars. Whoopee!

I resisted seeing this film for a number of years because I really wasn't interested in watching a Hollywood tear-jerker that portrayed an elderly cracker learning that...GASP!!!...black people can actually be as decent and complex as white people! What a revelation! Having finally seen it, my instinctive characterization of it was selling it short; it's actually a bit more complex than that. Seasoned veteran Jessica Tandy plays the "elderly cracker" in question, and the "elderly cracker" turns out to be a Jew (I never realized there were so many Jews in the South until I read about the 1915 lynching of Leo Frank in Atlanta, or the Klan-orchestrated bombings of synagogues in Mississippi during the 1960's). Morgan Freeman plays her chauffeur, and his performance should be seen by people who know Freeman only as this generation's James Earl Jones, essentially portraying the same role in every movie he appears in. In "Driving Miss Dairy" he actually bothers to act, and it's a great, touc... Read more

Morgan Freeman, need I say more? He's done more for the African-American race than anyone I can think of. Who could possibly dislike this man? Maybe he'll run for President of the United States of America

Driving Ms Daisy is an all time classic and should be viewed by all from time to time. We should all learn how to treat our elderly. Too many forgotten.

This film, if you can believe it, is 20 yrs. old! Normally, one has to make allowances when watching older films, for cultural disconnect and production values, but this film holds ups perfectly after all these years. If it were released today it would be just a popular as it was then. Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy's acting is superb and will go down in history as some of the best performances in film ever. If all that doesn't convince you to check this one out, I don't know what will!

This is a thoroughly enjoyable film for fans of its genre which can be described as nostalgia. Other films that would more or less fall into this category include "Diner", "American Grafitti" and even "Easy Rider" as they try to depict a time and a way of life that used to be. In this sense, "Driving Miss Daisy" is a shining light that represents its genre very well. The dvd version I got is the standard version and it appears from the other reviews that it's a good thing as I at least get the top and bottom frames intact while apparently sacrficing a little at the sides. The picture quality is also good and the sound quality is decent too coming in Dolby Surround Stereo. There are no special features of note though which is the one drawback if you are into making-of documentaries, interviews etc. The story develops slowly but not too slow so as to become boring or tiresome and is a wonderful story of how friendship and mutual respect can grow and develop over time transcending... Driving Miss Daisy is one of my mom's favorite movies, but I find it rather boring. Morgan Freeman as the driver keeps the movie watchable, but that's about it. From the way my mom talks about the movie, I think seeing all of the old cars is what she really likes about it.

I can't watch this movie without crying...almost from the first scene...and I just get worse as the story moves along. It takes me home...back to the time when I was young, a simpler time, and connects me with people and incidents in my life. Yes, racial prejudice was rampant then and very wrong on an institutional level, but on a personal level, there was mutual love and respect between blacks and whites. This movie relects that accurately, showing Hoke unable to use restroom facilities, yet ending with Miss Daisy's declaration that he is her "best friend." Morgan Freeman and Jessica Handy are perfect in their roles; only Dan Akroyd's "Boolie" doesn't quite ring true, mostly because of his fake Southern accent.

This movie really tugs at the ol' heart strings! It has been a favorite of mine for some time now, but I was surprised when my husband liked it after watching it for the first time!

This was a great little movie. It was refreshing to see a story about people and not sex, violence or explosions. The performances were top notch by all cast members. I especially enjoyed the relationship between the characters portrayed by Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman. It was intresting to see their relationship evolve from disdain to a loving friendship. The ending was bitter-sweet and left me a little teary eyed. Miss Tandy deserved her oscar for this role. I also feel Mr. Freeman gave an oscar worthy performance as well. I highly recommend this film.

A very good film, a retired Jewish school teacher in the south with a black man that her son hired to drive her because she was to old to drive herself. It brought up bigotry, illiteracy, ageing, all kinds of issues but most in a pretty subtle fashion. The relationship between the driver, Morgan Fairchild and the teacher, Jessica Tandy changes throughout the movie.

Rather simple story that might have been a TV caliber movie if not for the wonderful acting by Tandy and Freeman, who brought this movie alive and made it a beautiful touching story.

This movie is so unrealistic it isn't even funny. And the acting by the cast was awful, considering their talent. I think I would much rather watch the adult porn movie version of this called Driving Miss Daisy Crazy ! LMAO ! ha ha !

This was a beautiful and heartwarming film to watch if you feel you need something feel-good. For this is the ultimate of feel-good. Makes you laugh, makes you cry, the performances are top-notch, this is a great movie. Maybe not as memorable as some, this is still a beautiful film which deserved Best Picture '89. (Mainly because it wasn't a very good year for films). Driving Miss Daisy was the film of the year. Summary: BEAUTIFUL AND HEARTWARMING.

Driving Miss Daisy was a cute little movie with Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman. It's about an old women living in the south, who hires a black chauffer to work for her. Their relationship blossoms and they become great friends.

Good movie overall. Shows the relationships between a stubborn old woman and a man of color as her servant. The relation of the two made the movie great.

Excellent movie. I would recommend for all age groups. This movie shows how blacks were treated, not only in the past, but now as well. There are people who are mean and cruel and some who are respectful and humane. The movie has/had context and was enjoyed by all.

This was a good movie. It was boring at first but I got pulled into it. I liked how Miss Daisy finally liked the lady at the end. I love movies that have racism in them.

Morgan Freeman is always wonderful. This academy award winner is full of humanity -- what a nice change of pace from so much of Hollywood...
