Roseanne herself was annoying. The plots and overall humor were pretty good. The well ran a little dry as the show entered the mid-90's. However it was pretty good from '88 to about '93. Then it got old.

Very funny standup comic about twenty years ago. She went way past her talent years ago. The television show was good for the first few years too. She should avoid making movies for sure.

The first season was the best in my opinion. It was almost like it was non scripted and it worked. As the seasons went on I lost interest.I still can't pass up a marathon on the oxygen channel though.

I saw her long ago at a comedy festival, just as her star was starting to rise, and well before TV. She was very funny, in a raucous fishwife sort of way that somehow managed to be self-deprecating at the same time. Like a lot of comics who have done sitcoms, she lost a lot when she changed mediums.

One of the best sitcoms ever, easily. Sure it went on maybe two season too long, but in it's golden years Roseanne was untouchable. Blue collar honest comedy at it's best. Love her or hate her Rosie was really funny in this show.

Roseanne's voice could become tiresome and annoying at times, but she was very funny much of the time and her supporting cast of John Goodman and the others made for a pretty enjoyable show.

The first two or three seasons were realy funny, but it went downhill pretty quickly. Although the Halloween episodes were always worth watching.

Though not really a terrible series, I consider "Roseanne" more of a 90's show since the vast majority of its run was during that decade. Nevertheless, (ignoring Roseanne's real life personality) this series did start off relatively strong, making an apparently good faith attempt to portray a blue collar family and tackling interesting issues, and some of the cast were particular strong (i.e. John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, and Sara Gilbert). Nevertheless, the show eventually lingered for far too long and resorted to some shock and foolish twists during the final seasons.

This show was well-written and often very funny, but I'm sorry, Roseanne gets too annoying to watch for 30 straight minutes. I actually used to look forward to watching this show, then wondered what the hell was wrong with me about halfway through each episode. 3 and a half stars for the clever, funny writers

Started off quite well, then went down faster than Bill Clinton's pants. Generally pretty poor compared to Frasier, Cheers, Seinfeld and Taxi

Rosanne is just pure raw humor....shows the typical blue collar family in its disfunctions and struggles and does it in a very funny way!

Roseanne is our Queen. She is our Queen of white trash. All Hale the Queen. I love the show and I watch it everynight on Nick at Nite. Most people dont like her because she says whatever is on her mind. She is not afraid to tell people excatly what she thinks. I bow to her our Queen.

A very funny woman. Why is it that her critics can't avoid references to her body shape when discussing her character or abilities?

Like other non-actor Jerry Seinfeld, Roseanne had the good sense to surround herself with talented people (John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, etc.), and it lifted this show from the ordinary to something a bit more than that. Not great or even really good TV, it was nonetheless a diverting half-hour when it came on, and there were certainly far worse shows populating the TV-landscape. Still are, unfortunately...

Roseanne is the prototypical celebrity who lets all her success get to her head and then deems herself above everyone. Nevermore was this apparent than when she despicably (and intentionally) oinked her way through the national anthem at a San Diego Padres game in the early-1990s, spitting to the side disgustingly thereafter. But the reality about Roseanne is simply that she is nothing more than a FAT SWINE and a PATHETIC LOSER!

Well, hopefully most would not consider this an accurate representation of a family and to those who do...seek counseling (lol). The show was rather abrasive, obnoxious, loud and of course, dysfunctional. In the first few seasons Roseanne was a pretty funny show that you didn't need to take too seriously, but afterwards it made the mistake many comedy series make...it became too dramatic. Almost every episode in the last two seasons consisted of some type of life altering encounter; and an unrealistic one at that.

The show was brilliant it's first six seasons.....I think what made it sink was that it let itself go over the top....it's almost like there were two different tv shows after season seven began. Either way, it's still one of my all-time favorites.....

I gotta say, I love this show. I thought John Goodman as Dan was absolutley brilliant. It would have gotten a 5 if it wasen't for the depressing final episode that I felt took away from the all around essence of the show.

When Roseanne first came on the scene she was a novelty, a funny house wife. Her show reflected those roots but she soon got carried away with the Hollywood life style and so did her sense of humor. John Goodman was the real star of the show and was always funny Roseanne got more preachy and depressing as the show went on. The world series deal just showed us how low she had gone. Tom Arnold did nothing for here carrier but she did do a lot for his. That may be a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it.

I can't believe this show is so close to the bottom of the list. it is one of the most watchable shows. I can't explain it, but its just good! I am going to sound crazy when i say this, but i don't think roseanne would make a bad wife, at least the charecter she plays. I liked how the show was always funny, some of the jokes could make you laugh so hard that you druled! The only reason i didnt give it 5 stars is because of the last season, the winning the lottery thing, i could handle, it wasn't THAT bad, but on the last episode when they made the whole show a fake story, i was pissed. They should make another final episode and have it so that maybe they didnt win the lottery, but dan is still alive, the daughters still married the same guys, and jakie isn't gay, that ruined it! if they didn't make the last episode like they did, they could have made a movie like growing pains did, i would have liked to see that, i hope they do something like that and just forget all about the last epi... This was one of my favorite shows of all time. It is also one of the most realistic. No they were not rich or beautiful and definately NOT perfect but they were genuine. Like a majority of people in mid America, they were average looking, hard working people just trying to get by. I would not classify them as white trash. They both worked for a living and did take reasonably good care of the kids although I didn't quite agree with some of their parenting techniques. The show had a lot of funny moments and it kept me entertained. The charactors were obnoxious and always smarting off but they were still funny and enjoyable to watch although you would sometimes feel like smacking Darlene in the mouth. There was never a dull moment, the kids were always getting into trouble and you never knew what was going to happen next. Roseanne herself was loud and obnoxious and didn't take any crap from anyone. She always spoke whatever was on her mind and had a lot of hilarious remarks. I liked that... Read more

If this show projected the typical American family (as in the dominant type of family that exists in America)as it is, was often touted as doing, then can you possibly question why so much of the world thinks we suck? And no, I am not saying that to be unpatriotic, but only fans of this type of show would think that. Many, many families struggle with finances and the like, but I don't know how many of them actually equate that with the necessity to be slovenly and obnoxious. These people on this show were FAR from typical.

I was really surprised to see what a low rating this show has on this site! I loved it. At least for the first few seasons. I KNOW Roseanne is abrasive to say the least and the show could be crude. But that doesn't erase the fact that it was often hilarious! The show was perfectly cast. Especially the seemingly forgotten Laurie Metcalf as Roseanne's sister Jackie. She was brilliant! And she received 3 Emmies for her work on the show to prove it (plus numerous other nominations). Here's a couple of my favorite lines: (Why D.J. is spending so much time in the bathroom) DARLENE: Trust me, he goes in that room cause it's the only one with a lock on it, and he's in there for like an hour at a time. Which means he's either really, really good at it, or really, really bad at it! ROSEANNE: Well I don't want you to give him any grief about this ya know, cause you could traumatize him and turn him into a serial killer! DARLENE: Well don't worry, how much damage could he do with on... Read more
