Lies and fiction are the politician's stock in trade with few exceptions. Tell the public what they want to hear to get their vote, then do your thing in office and blame your lies on the last guy that warmed the seat before you.

If there is anything that Republicans and Democrats do in equal proportion it is lie. However, it seems to surge and fade with the parties depending on who is in control. Those with more control seem to lie more. Two examples for Dems. are Vietnam escalation based on Gulf of Tonkin incident and Bill Clinton's White House excesses. Two for the Republicans would be the Iran-Contra Affair and the WMD rationale for going to war in Iraq.

Neither party has a shining reputation for honesty.I suggest that they be forced to wear lie detectors during all debates.

This is kind of silly. Pols lie. It's a fact of nature.

right wing lies = Watergate; Iran-Contra; War in Irock. left wing truths = Harry Truman & Jimmy Carter's administrations.

History has shown that both the Left and the Right have difficulty with the truth. Reality is that having and holding on to power requires stretching the truth many times. This transcends all ideological differences of opinion. In fact, ideologues on both sides have to rely on lies to maintain their horribly reductionist point of views.
