 | Shizzz (0) 08/23/2006 | I really love this show. If you love boxing and want to see what's in these guy's heads before and after a fight, you'll love it too. Thank God ESPN picked up the second season. It's significantly improved getting rid of the idiotic High School gym-like competition to see who picked the fights. Sly is also gone, and not missed. Every time I watch this show, it amazes me what a fighter must endure mentally to get in the ring and perform.

 | jjdel_00 (0) 05/09/2006 | The Snake has moved beyond "the Contender", which was an interesting platform that kick-started the careers of 2 or 3 of its top performers. But the Snake dismantled a sound and tough mainstream fighter in the "Shark Attack" Termeliksetian in May 2006. He also showed some punching power in that contest. Sergio could be on his way to a stellar career. I just hope he is wise enought to sign with Golden Boy productions, or take other proactive steps to safeguard his earnings. He's a good kid and a credit to boxing.

 | alpepper (21) 06/16/2005 | When I watched it, I enjoyed the fights. They were well edited (though the cutaways to Stallone or Sugar Ray Leonard wincing when a fighter landed a hard punch got annoying). My gripe is that while the show was good boxing, it was not good reality. The challenges were kind of lame and contrived and the so-called poignant stories were not that poignant. NBC kept moving it around on the schedule so I kept missing episodes. In the end, I just think that they should have just showed the fights and skip the reality part. I did like the Mexican kid Gomez. I think he'll go far.

 | Jed1000 (72) 06/02/2005 | Finally.. a reality show with a soul.. with integrity and real human drama. You care about these people. And what happens to them here is not a game. Their real lives and careers actually hang on the results of these challenges. A show whose purpose (besides obvious money and ratings) is to help out struggling up-and-comers who need a break. A winner.//Addendum 06/02/05... While it broke my heart to see both Alfonso Gomez and Peter Manfredo lose (as they were my favorites) Sergio Mora is a worthy winner. What other recent reality show winner could explain is game play by quoting Nitzche and Thoreau? Best reality show I've ever seen.

 | Randyman (103) 05/25/2005 | UPDATE: Great fights For Sergio Mora and Alfonso Gomez. Big night for East L.A, California and for the West Coast in general. Yeah, baby!! Kudos to Sylvester Stallone and Sugar Ray Leonard for a great show! Good for boxing! ORIGINAL COMMENT:The only reality show I'll watch! My only problem with the fights on the Contender, is that they are edited, making it impossible to judge for myself who really won. When it comes to results, I don't like taking anyone else's word on a decision. What seperates this from other so called reality shows is that their real life careers are on the line and affected by the results of a decision. This is what they do, so a loss becomes a permanent part of the record. I was sorry to see Alfonso Gomez lose too, he fought with heart. I really didn't think it was fair for him to have to fight someone that he already eliminated and then be in turn eliminated by him (Manfredo). I'll go on record here and say that I think Sergio Mora will be the winner in Las Vegas.

 | BlinkeredSix9 (0) 05/14/2005 | I adore this show a lot. Sure, boxing has been on a downward spiral as of late, and Stallone's star doesn't shine as bright as it originally did. However, this new show is something to behold, it takes action and drama and mixes it into one single package.
Forget most of the reality garbage on television now, such as The Bachelorette, For Love or Money, The Apprentice and give this true drama a watch. This show will grab you, pull you in, and not let go. As a viewer you feel the pain, excitement, and anger that each boxer and their families go through.
Sylvester Stallone and Mark Burnett should be applauded for their effort here. The Contender ranks with the best in dramatic television. On a scale of one to ten, I give it a ten. Highly recommended.
Airs Sunday Nights at 8 pm.

 | zuchinibut (36) 03/15/2005 | Boxing is an underappreciated sport in the US, probably because it costs 50 dollars to watch the best fighters just on TV. The Contender shows just how hard it is to be a fighter, not just in the ring, but on families as well. However, it also shows the glory in winning. I would still prefer to watch an uncut boxing match without the fake crowd noise and edited rounds, although the slow motion head shots are a nice touch. Overall I think it is an entertaining show that does a great job of mixing reality TV with true athletic competition.

 | souljunkie (20) 03/15/2005 | I applaud The creator of this show. It finally makes reality worth while. Not surprising when considering the drama that automatically comes with Mens sports. Boxing is a great sport that epitamizes the age old competative spirit of man to pit strength against strength and wit against wit. On a side note, to call this sensless violence in my opinion is a pure panty waist comment. Any man who doesn't respect the idea of pure male competition at its very core is missing something very important in their psychy. The men who are in this sport may not be genius', but you have to give them props for bravery, grit and comittment to hard work! Maybe the person who made the comment is a woman. Then I would understand. No offence...just an opinion.

 | jaywilton (26) 03/15/2005 | So far the fights have been pretty good...and the human interest angle has been a real plus.

 | LoneUSFullHouseFan (3) 03/10/2005 | I got lured in by the previews, and not being a boxing fan I figured I would be switching channels after five minutes. I was wrong. After the first episode I was completely hooked. Mark Burnett has actually managed to put a real human side to a sport associated with senseless violence. The first episode saw an undefeted fighter go down to an unknown, which helps to give the series a real underdog aspect.
