I'll second Enkidu's claim. I think bin Laden would avoid Iran like the plague. The Shi'as have had a long historical opposition to bin Laden's organization and its aims. As much as he would like to start a Pan-Arabist movement to counter the US, this won't happen as long as the Muslim world remains divided. Iran has been a supporter of terrorism in the past, but that has been mainly geared toward Hezbollah (party of God) which operates in Syria and Lebanon. At best, the connections between al-Qaeda and that group are indirect and certainly they wouldn't harbor bin Laden.

I think Enkidu's observations are very apropos here. Unlikely in my opinion.

No way. They're Shia and he's Sunni. Would you find an IRA Catholic terrorist hiding in a Protestant slum in Belfast? Don't underestimate the depth of the hatred between extremists of the two sects.
