 | Moosekarloff (18) 03/18/2004 | One of America's greatest living novelists. The Poorhouse Fair, his first novel, showed great promise, and he followed that up with the truly magnificent The Centaur. The Rabbit books were entertaining, insightful and very well conceived and written. Couples was flat, but much better than most of the garbage that gets published today. His short stories are terrific, too. Although this guy peaked out years ago and hasn't done much for quite awhile, he has accomplished a significant body of work, an intriguing mirror held up to the foibles of American life of the post WWII years.
