It is hard to mention Alexandre Dumas (1802-1870) without his son, Alexandre Dumas “The Younger” (1824-1895). Both Dumas’ built careers based on titillation and scandal, which kept Parisian audiences wrapped in their work for almost the entirety of the 19th century. Both Dumas’ were womanizers, using their private indiscretions as source material. Dumas The Elder is known for The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers, while Dumas The Younger is noted for Camille and Claude’s Wife.
