Is it possible to dislike CCR? One of the best hard rock bands around at the time, without the pomp that people found so detestable in bands like Yes. Their list of brilliant songs is endless, and from the footage of the shows I've seen, they were a fantastic live act as well. John Fogerty's voice and guitar playing are instantly recognisable, and he's not looking bad for his age at the moment. I saw footage of his set at Glastonbury from a few years ago.

CCR churned out a lot of hits. Fogerty's voice is very distinctive, his lyricism is clever, and the overall sound is distinctive too. It's too bad they did not continue on together.

CCR had a very distinctive sound. Fogerty's swamp guitar, especially on "Born on the Bayou", being a major part of it. For awhile there, they were a veritable hit factory. "Fortunate Son" and Who'll Stop the Rain?" are my two favorite songs of theirs.

Ah, the good old times. Who can forget the jewels of country-rock.
headson 02/04/2008
CCR was my dad's favorite band and I thing it's a great example of what music was back then, all the bands played with so much feeling and they were just amazing. Something we haven't seen near enough today. I can't believe people traded rock n' roll for whatever crap they listen to now.
ROCKTRAIN69 12/23/2007
Simlpy one of the best bands under the sun. Songs that never grow old.
thekingofska 07/20/2007
I love CCR. Just a bunch of simple songs that anyone can play and sound really great. I guess I'm kinda young (19) to be listening to CCR, but I find myself singing "Lookin Out My Back Door" and "Cotton Fields" more than anything other songs I know.
GenghisTheHun 04/07/2007
I remember I was in a bar that was in an old mine in Colorado when I first heard "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" I just bought a best of Credence cd the other day and it is great. I had a pal who was in the 101st Airborne in 'Nam, and that group liked "Bad Moon Risin'."

I simply love CCR, when I was little my mum had some records and tapes with CCR and I listened to them and was hooked. I still love their music, it's solid and it fits in no matter what era we're living in.

One of the best American bands ever! Very influential in their day. And still fun to listen to today.
CandyLucy 05/25/2006
I adore some of their songs and hate others. Altogether OK.
Silver Eagle 252 04/02/2006
A very good band in it's day. Songs will probably be around for awhile since they are solid enough to be used in movies here and there.

CCR was our high school band in the late 50s. Doug & Stu went to El Cerrito High, while John and Tommy went to St. Mary's in Berkeley. Where did they get that bayo influence 1941-1944 the East Bay Area quadrupled in size mainly due to the shipyards in Alameda, Richmond, and Ports in Oakland and SF. Many the new Californians were from the southern states and much of what we heard at friend houses and on their radios and record players had that southern influence. Even as the Blue Velvets in the 50s, while covering other records, they had that twangy thang goin on. Tommy was my age and we went to Harding Elementary and Portola Jr. High together before he went on the ST. MARYs. Johnny and the others were younger (my brother Bob's age) and they hung out alot. Bob wasn't the 5th Beatle, so to speak, but if he could have carried a tune or do that bayo-speak he might have been. Of course, all of us who knew them when think they were great and were saddened by their legal troubles, the breakup and then the untimely loss of Tommy from the effects of his childhood Life is not simple, even then, and these small town boys could have used better Manager. That guy caused the problems you hear about between the boys who almost always got along well. How many bands from any R & R period do you know who let anyone other than the lead sing lead and write and record their own songs. Not many, right! And, as to whether John was the most valuable player. Hey, a group is a group. He's good and history has proven that with his continued success as a single. But, like most all CCR fans, I do wish the run could have been longer and the Greatest Hits albums in the dozens.
Logan49 08/19/2005
Second greatest band ever behind the Beatles.
PlanetaryGear 07/09/2005
These guys were great. As a child, they were one of the first forms of music I was exposed to. I had no idea for the longest time that they were a San Francisco band, I'd always thought they were from Louisianna or the cajun panhandle of Florida. CCR Chronicles (greatest hits) is one of my favorite CD's, and Lodi is one of my favorite songs.
Molfan 04/29/2005
CCR had some great songs. I remember listening to this band all the way back to high school. I especially like, BAd Moon Rising, Looking out my backdoor, and Midnight special.

fierce_pajamas 09/11/2004
Creedence is awesome. Much better than the Eagles. I hate the Eagles, man.
Jimbo04 07/30/2004
CCR had alot of songs that are worth remembering, Proud Mary, Down on the Corner and Have You Ever Seen the Rain.? Fogerty still can sing some songs to this day pretty well. I saw him at the Minnesota State Fair last weekend (July 23rd).
Mike Mason777 07/28/2004
They had a different original style. Thier southern style rock made the VERY popular. Jo Folgerty could jam!
VirileVagabond 02/24/2004
Put a bayou band in a California band's body and you get Creedence Clearwater Revival (ie CCR). Despite what could have been an eclectic fusion of rockabilly, swamp pop, R&B;, and country, CCR became one history's definitive singles band. If you need proof of the strength and widespread popularity of CCR, just play a few of the more popular tracks from the band and (say) Led Zeppelin for your parents and grandparents and find out which are more recongnized (and no, this isn't a bad thing). What all this means is that almost all listeners will be more than adequately satisfied with any of the greatest hits packages from the band. (One item of interest is that CCR never had a #1 hit, and many consider the band the most successful artist without one.)
DeathRattle 01/06/2004
CCR were among the best southernesque style of rock. They were able to create solid rock songs of any length. They created so many hits and radio standards in the very few years the original lineup. Kudos goes to John Fogerty. He basically was CCR (main and the only songwriter for pratically almost every CCR tune). No JF, no CCR.
kolby1973 11/09/2003
One of those bands that my parents tortured me with so much as a kid, that I can't find a way to appreciate their music. I am sure they are fine musicians, but it just isn't my cup of tea...3 stars...
irishgit 11/09/2003
A great band, in the studio, on stage (where I was fortunate enough to see them) in your living room or in the car.

Amazing
President -X-D 08/12/2003
Although CCR played alot of folk songs and their brand of rock had very little depth to it, I've always had a soft spot for John Fogerty's earth-shattering vocals. That boy can sing. CCR is instantly recognizable and that voice... wow.
andyknoedler 08/12/2003
I wasn't expecting much when I saw CCR live in 1969 -- maybe they were going to be like the Beach Boys. But they really and truly rocked in person. They were extremely together and in a great grove when they played.
SGRANT 06/02/2003
THEY WERE A GREAT BAND--VERY UNIQUE SOUND. 'BAD MOON RISING' MUST BE ONE OF THE MOST SUPERB SONGS EVER WRITTEN...AMAZING BAND.
RebelYell1861 05/31/2003
Talented, original, great band. Who can say that songs like "Proud Mary," "Bad Moon Rising," and "Green River" don't rock?

John Fogerty grates on my nerves.

I can see here and Ive always known CCR Fans are die hard and thats cool but; John Fogherty wrote about bayous and river rats, muddy water and mojo's to the point that you mighta thought he was a southern boy from Louisana or something. He's from CALIFORNIA and had never seen a marsh or bayou (He admits it in print). He simply developed a cute 3 chord formula that millions at the time loved. He did have a great band that he gave no credit to even now and just does not deserve it all himself. MY band covers a couple of his songs and they are always well recieved but this is just a formula that worked for a while. It doesnt hold up now and wont again. It was era music for the hippies who liked bluesy music and nothing more. The fact is that John Fogherty was too arrogant to keep a good thing going.
Shukhevych 12/09/2002
Possibly my most favorite band ever!

MJSThirty6 11/16/2002
I love their music and will always enjoy it. I was dissappointed to find out John Fogerty's attitude towards his bandmates and his enormous ego after watching a program on VH-1 about CCR. He thinks he alone was CCR or John Fogerty and band. He may have been the power behind CCR but if it were me, I would be modest as heck about it and credit my bandmates. He was a jerk during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony by refusing to perform on stage with Stu Cook and Doug Clifford because of the their past disputes over the copyright battles. Differences should be set aside for that moment but John chose to hold the grudge causing the other two to leave Cleveland in disgust. John should have either played with the two other members onstage or not played at all.
Jason1972 10/22/2002
True classic rock at its finest. Sure, the drum beats were simple, the chords were easy to figure out, but the lyrics were solid with a lot of catchy hooks and riffs (love that intro riff to "Up Around The Bend"). I'll have to echo on what MJSThirty6 had to say about John Fogerty. True, he was an integral part of the band but every member was vital. John needs to get out of that egotistical mode and realize he wouldn't have a name in rock and roll if it wasn't for CCR so if the surviving members want to tour and call it Creedence Clearwater Revisited, let them. John, don't let your sorry attitude make your younger brother roll in his grave.

the best bandi have ever heard in my life...i was alive during the sixies or anytime around them....in fact i was about 20 years late...they are still the best band i have ever heard in my life and no other has come close..

Memorable tunes, unfortunatley. Singer sucks. Way too "affected" by his supossedly roots. No decent Bar Band would hire this fool. It took Tina Turner to make one of his tunes respectable.
