The absolutely lamest singer of the classic rock era.  His first album, "Gasoline Alley" was pretty good, but, then he nosedived immediately and never revived musically.  The material he chose was moronic and ultra cheezy, the musical equivalent of Velveeta.  "Tonight's The Night" is totally pinheaded and "Hot Legs" rates as probably the worst song of all time.  I understand this guy can fart on cue.  Maybe he should work this into his act.  It would be a tremendous improvement.

I just dont get him. I dont see the talent anywhere. he isnt a musician, not a great singer although he does have a distinctive voice.

Has done nothing of merit since about 1972 on his own, though the early work with the Jeff Beck Group, The Faces, and his earliest solo stuff was praiseworthy.

  Showed great promise as a terrific r'n'b singer, but wasted away his career on corny pop songs.

A tragedy.

One of the best examples of luck being a more important ingredient than looks and talent, which he has in teaspoons, when it comes to being successful rock star. Sorry folks but he's an ugly f*cker with a crap, albeit distinctive voice. When he did come out with a decent tune it was usually written by someone else e.g. Sailing. On the plus side, the fact he's had an impressive string of ladee friends sends out a message of hope to men out there that you can have a face like a horse's arse and still score with hot women.

He was an innovative and soulful hard rock singer who took a limited vocal gift and infused it into a showman's pastiche that took as much from Al Jolson and Sam Cooke as it did from Elvis Presley and Mick Jagger.  He had a solid run, first as a journeyman vocalist in the British Blues bands of the early 60's up through to the Jeff Beck Group.  He actually took the reigns of the succesfull Small Faces and lead them to greater heights through four albums as the rollicking good time boys of the Faces.  The limelight was obviously very intoxicating and his solo career quickly took off.  Unfortunately that's where the story takes a turn.  His first 4 or 5 albums as a solo artist, actually recorded during the Faces years with members of the band, are stone classics, and the source of most of his enduring material.  But once he hit the top of the charts and tossed over his mates, the quality of his work goes from spotty, to bland to plain awful.  He hit rock bottom with a series of really terrible pop standards album that sold well to house wives and yuppies who pay too much for coffee, but the production, singing and musicianship on those records is just plain unacceptable.  But a guy has to do what he has to do to keep up the payments on his castle.

Rod has achieved allot in his time. He has produced some great songs. You may say you don't like him, but you will always find yourself tapping your foot too a song or two of his. The problem is that most Americans don't recognise British singers because they do not always make it over here. But if you travel around, you will find that not only does he pull the crowd, but he has a very large fan basis. I do appreciate not only his music but I recognise what he has done for the British forces overseas. Im proud to say that I have purchased 2 tickets for me and my wife to see him live in Denver. Roll on April 2nd!!!! I will say that his private life is something I don't necessarily like, but that is his problem not mine!!!

His videos are key! Nice choreography. Great hits: Some Guys Get All The Luck Forever Young (relates to me) Young Turks and some others I can't think of now...

I am sorry. I just cannot stand this man's music.

every time the informercial for 'rod stewart sings the classics' comes on, i don't know whether to puke or laugh hysterically. might as well be 'kermit sings the classics'. infuriates me that he's made a career with that froggy croak of his. retire already, you've milked it for all its worth. the only vocalist (notice i didn't use the term singer) that comes close to being as bad is bryan adams and he had the sense to go away.

Has some ok songs but a quick look at the credits for them revealed that not many were written/composed by him(You're in my Heart being a notable exception). Therefore no justification for rating him too highly

5 stars just for that frickin' haircut that everybody tried to copy for 25 years! I appreciate the way that Mr. Stewart's music has matured with him. Nothing worse than a 50 something rocker singing about chasing young girls and gettin' drunk with his blokes. "Forever Young" was a song that I really enjoyed, especially the video.

Not a graceful voice but that raspiness is his signature sound and I've grown to love and respect it. A lot of hits, too many to mention, have held up well with time.

Rod is the MAN. Sex god of his time. His music will live on forever even after his demise, which has not come yet. Great songs and albums have come from him. The most well known song being "Do you think im sexy?"

Maggie Mae, Every Picture Tells a Story are his two most well known songs. Not great by any stretch.

The Faces were a great rock band, Rod Stewart kind of sucks in the solo world.

Rod, You Wear it Well (the colorful suit jackets, wild hair and your age)--- "...a little old fashioned, but I don't mind, I aint forgettin that you were once mine...." Even know I can hear the music in my head, complete with violin and his great, throaty, soulful, passionate voice. One of my all time favs.

Rod needs to sing less about legs and his own "sexiness" and sing more awesome classics like "Maggie May" and "You Wear It Well". "Every Picture Tells A Story" is great. For a while, there, we had great music from a unique voice. But it fell apart. No denying that Rod's a smart musician, however.

Hate him! I'm sick and tired of hearing Rod Stewart on the radio at work everyday. His voice is just awful like Macy Gray's! I don't know how that raspy growl passes for talent but if I hear "Soul on Soul" one more time I might just go ballistic!

Rod Stewart, I'd have to say, has one of the best singing voices I've ever heard in my life. That and his music has great words.

Love Rod he has an awesome voice! Just saw him in concert last week, was very disappointed, the singing was wonderful, but he was not at all personable to the crowd, there was no hello no goodbye and no encore.

My goodness, what a talent! Talk about songs overflowing with originality and real meaning. Now, it is very true that he may not appeal to everyone but not everyone liked Picasso either.

If he hadn't come out with "Hot Legs" etc. he would've got 5 stars. If he hadn't saved his career butt with "Forever Young" & "Downtown Train" I wouldn't have bothered. Very unique bluesy voice.

Three stars is halfway between five (the Every Picture Tells a Story album) and one (virtually everything he's done since). I remember reading some rock crit say something along the lines of "no one in rock music has betrayed his own talent as much as Rod Stewart". Gotta say that's pretty true.

He should get a lifetime achievment award or something....the man will ALWAYS rock! I love Rod!

He started out as a front man for Jeff Beck. Then he went with a band called Faces. I have not followed him, he is problably one of those that should have walked away and retired.

Sorry, I just never could get past his horrendous voice. The first time I ever heard him on the radio, I tried to tune the station because I thought it was static.

Rod Stewart has made some great music in his career! I'm not particularly fond of all it, but some if it is really good. He makes better songs about women than anyone else I can think of.

Time for Rod to throw in the towell.
