I was fortunate to have seen the Ramones when I was a teenager. Unfortunately, it was at Lollapalooza. Anyway, great punk, and a part of me wants to call it pop, but I know I shouldn't. Anyway, 'Road to Ruin' is a classic. It's good music for people who have a short attention span, and just like shorter songs.

I just read the description at the top of this review and was moved to make a couple of corrections. The Ramones in 1974 were, Joey - vocals, Johnny - guitar, Dee Dee (who wrote most of the songs) - bass and vocals, and Tommy - drums. On Ramones albums [recorded in the early '80s] where you hear lead guitar, you're listening to Walter Lure of the Heartbreakers who played uncredited. When Tommy quit, Marc Bell (Marky Ramone) became the drummer, and when DeeDee quit, CJ became the bass player. For more details, try googling.UPDATE:http://tinyurl.com/RAMONES.

It was all about fun and noise. If you took it seriously, you missed the point. The Ramones were pure entertainment. So many good songs!

They were pioneers and what made them so great is all their songs were so short and to the point...they didn't need to drag out what they had to say.

The first 3 studio albums and Alive are all 5 star classics that haven't dated one bit in 30 years. The later albums had their moments but bringing in other instruments and polishing up the sound was a mistake. Who gives a f**k about speedy solos and complex song structures when rock n roll can be as much fun as Rockaway Beach.

Not the most talented band. Not the best tunes out there. But a huge influence on Punk.

They will be sorely missed. Their sound was amazing, especially live. Rock and Roll High School was also one of those defining teenage movies like Fast Times At Ridgemont High and Over The Edge. Teenage rebellion at it's finest, and the Ramones embodied that rebellious spirit.

I'm a first generation RAMONES fan. I'm 41, I still listen to them, and still will when I'm in the nursing home. I still wear their T-shirts, and it's pretty cool when I go out, these 15 and 16 year olds say, Cool Shirt. Their music is high in energy, sounds like revved up bubblegum and surfing rock of the mid-60's. Gidget would've been a RAMONES fan. They were fun, they made you wanna dance (slam dance, that is). Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, why'd ya have to leave us so soon? To me, the best damned rock group ever. These guys saved rock and roll from the long, drawn out guitar and drum solos of the early 70's. Ok, ok, I still wear a black leather jacket and ripped jeans too! I admit it! ; ) I don't wanna grow up! I know you guys are rockin' in Heaven. And God don't need ear plugs.

Never mind the fact that they were'nt musical connosseurs. You can have all the musical skill but if you have no soul you have nothing. The Ramones were one of the first true Punks as the genre was started in NYC and Detroit. Just like other things the Brits ripped it off and got the undeserved credit.

A rare 5-star rating from me for a band. . .the Ramones musically are one of the most limited and least talented bands ever - but they knew their chords, their fans, and they stayed loyal to their formula. Terrific band. I wish I could get into a time machine and see them circa mid-to-late 70's at CBGB's.

Not the greatest musicians in the world but they had fun and humour that most of the British punk bands so lacked. Some great singles but not not really an albums band.

I really do not know alot about this particular band, but everytime I hear ROCK N ROLL HIGH SCHOOL on the radio, I get up and dance like no tomorrow. It is a really nice dance song, and I am looking forward to buying some of their other work as well.

A most charming and entertaining lot who were much more musically influential than accomplished, but maybe that was the point. Back in the days of the lower East Side scene, these guys were considered to be the retarded child darlings, the band you just had to like, despite the fact that there were dozens of other groups out there that were far superior technically and aesthetically. I guess because these guys were without pretense, without style, and the prime example of the what you see is what you get ethos of their musical genre. However, The Ramones did codify a significant amount of the musical and fashion style/approaches of the first punk era, and even to this day, three chord garage bands owe a great deal to these guys from Queens.

The Ramones is one of the quintessential punk rock groups. There's always room for "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker," "Blitzkreig Bop," "Rock and Roll High School," and all the others on their long list of hits. The Ramones' music isn't about weighty issues, but offers the chance to get away from those issues and just let loose. And let loose I have on plenty of occasions. When a group is chosen to highlight the soundtrack for a Stepen King movie (Pet Semetary), you know they can jam. I've sold and traded a lot of CD's as my tastes changed over the years, but The Ramones' Mania will never go.

Until Easter Sunday this year, I was basically indifferent to the Ramones. It was mid-April and was in the car at night. I was listening to a New York City classic rock station and they announced that Joey Ramone had died earlier that day. They promptly played 4 songs from the Ramones (only in New Yowk). I discovered that I loved "I Wanna be Sedated," "Blitzkrieg Bop," "Rockaway Beach," etc. They are a cool band.

The Ramones are proof that punk rock never dies. They started a whole new revolution of good music in this world. Without punk rock I would be a worthless lump of charcoal in a big bag labeled Brisquette. And I owe it all to The Ramones.

the ramones are so completely awesome. they're the inventors of punk. (just for the record, blink 182 is not really punk. they just wish they were- they suck. the sex pistols and misfits and swingin' utters & bouncing souls are punk.) anyways, a little off topic, the ramones are one of the best bands out there.. too bad about joey. long live the ramones!

The only band to get halfway between the Beach Boys and the Velvet Underground without feeling like they had to go tongue-in-cheek (like Jesus and Mary Chain, who also roamed around that area). The Ramones were truly remarkable.

Ofcourse the Ramones are great, but this whole "our sound is so unique, every band wants to sound like us" mess is a bit much, anyone ever hear of the beach boys? yeah, a little similar.

They may have waited ten years too long to call it a day, but they were perhaps the biggest breath of fresh air to hit a stale, tired music biz in the last thirty years. They were great...and then they weren't.
