Let me guess. 'Jane' was addicted to crappy music.

One band that really does stand out from the rock platforms of the 1990's. Been Caught Stealing is an all time classic. Not as recognisable as some other bands, but worthy of praise none the less!

Dave Navarro played guitar for Jane's Addiction. The guy is over-rated, but he can play. However, he'd be hard pressed to prove it based on the Jane's Addiction catalogue. Their songs are very disappointing.

I like this band. They've got pizzazz and style and hark back to the days when rock music was glam, a bit sleazy and fun, not like the po faced cr@p it is largely nowadays

i find this band highly over-rated. never went much for Perry Farell's space out schtik and i think Dave Navarro is a glamour wannabe doofus. their music wasn't much to speak about either. many bands have done it better.

One of the few post 70s American rock bands worth bothering with. Kind of early Roxy Music meets Van Halen (also one of the few). Steven Perkins is one great drummer and the Navarro-Perry pairing stands up to Perry-Tyler and Van Halen-Roth as the best frontlines in rock. Their last album is a gem.

I heard everything they have put out and the problem I have with Janes is the fact that they are good enough to write really great songs but they only give us a few. I still throw them into rotation on my radio station.

Amazing! That they're so high on the list. Wow, number ten? I had no idea that they had such dedicated fans. Was there something in their music that I missed? The only reasons I gave them a two instead of a one is because they lasted so long (amazing!) and because I liked one of their videos. Been Caught Stealing. I thought it was hilarious. That was their only redeeming point. Maybe I should double check their songs and see if that'll change my mind.

I've been seeing them, and loving them, since the Scream club in LA. This band is original, passionate, topical, and a complete sensory overload live. It's like a Dionysian festival! Great lyrics, great beats, great energy and eye candy, the only downside is Navaro on guitar (average compared to Perry).

People who leave comments for musical artists tend to be fanatical fans or those who just wish to say they suck. I (on the other hand) would be considered a casual fan of Jane's Addiction. This group is primarily a fusion (an overused term) of alternative and classic rock, with punk, folk, metal and jazz thrown in for flavor. The band's first official release (in 1987) was a self-titled live recording and includes very good renditions of My Time, Jane Says, Rock & Roll, and Sympathy (the latter two being covers of the Velvet Underground and the Rolling Stones). (There is also a decent live version of Pigs In Zen.) Nothing's Shocking (1988) was the band's first major label and studio release and includes two of Jane's Addiction's most well know songs, Jane Says and Pigs In Zen, as well as the excellent Ocean Size and Mountain Song. Ritual de lo Habitual (1990) was the band's second studio release which contains several strong tracks, namely Stop!, Ain't No Right, and the now immor... Read more

A terrific band, even though their entire reputation rests on a mere two albums. Three extremely talented musicians together with one of the most charismatic and electrifying frontmen in all of alternative rock. A lot of bands have one HUGE hit that everyone knows and loves but which is hated by their hardcore fans, but most everyone I know who is into Jane's Addiction can still listen to "Been Caught Stealing" repeatedly, even though it's been overplayed. They didn't change their style to be more commercial, they just wrote a supremely catchy song within their idiom and it caught on. More alternative bands should learn the value of writing good catchy songs, instead of demanding that people accept them not in spite of their lack of musicianship and songcraft, but BECAUSE of it. Even the crappy bands in the 1960's knew how to write good songs.

Yes, Perry Farrell is annoying. . .but Dave Navarro can play guitar. NOTHINGS SHOCKING has got to be one of the ultimate college albums of the 90's. . .KETTLE WHISTLE is also a good collection.

There's no reason why I should like these guys, but I do. Very cool band - Very, Very, cool. I've gainede respect for Navarro's rock ability - I thought he was the best guitarist in the Chili Peppers. Farrell's vision is bizarre but definitely hypnotic - like Tool.

I've been seeing Jane's Addiction, and Perry's other projects, since around 1985 (when I couldn't take my eyes off of Perry at the Scream club in LA), and it just keeps getting better!!! The CDs are great, but the live shows are not to be missed! Perry is a true artist in every sense of the word. The songs range from fun, to thoughtful, to political, to romantic. But caution, entering Perry's world is like dancing with Dionysos; completely decedent and a sensual pleasure for your ears, eyes, and soul. So good you don't want to come down. Jane's Addiction are totally refreshing and different from anything else out there. Their music is primal and multi-layered, a treat for people looking for something more than MTV and pop music. If you are comfortable enough with yourself to truely let loose and absorb yourself in a live concert experience, Jane's is for you. If you are on the inhibited side and scared of your own sexuality, you'd better stay home.

I really do like Janes Addiction, my ex has two of their albums, 'Nothings Shocking' and 'Ritual De Lo Habitual' and the songs are very easy to listen to and Perry has a really distinctive voice. Would like to hear more if there is any....

What about the good side of "smack"? Jane's Addiction is just proof that drugs aren't all bad...think of all the great music that's come out of it...and think of all the bands who sucked after they cleaned up.J.A. didn't quit doing drugs, they broke up instead...before they could become another Aerosmith!!

As far as great punk bands go, Janes Addiction takes the cake. If you were in punk scence in the 80's, how could you not love Janes. I still blast them on the radio when I want to just punk out.

Perry is the ultimate cool mother#&@^&*.....i vow that i am his dream woman even if he doesnt know it yet. This is a true artist that puts his heart and soul into his work. Not to sell albums but to satisfy a need within him. He stands for what he believes in and that is hard to find these days.

Jane's rocks. They broke a barrier in music no one else could or had to after them. If you look at 90's music hard enough you can see how the paved the way for nirvana. In my opinion Perry did more for music in the 90's the Cobain could have done in a lifetime if he never blew his head off.

These guys set a new standard for what was deemed 'alternative' music. Perry Farrell is a freak, but he was able to mastermind lollapalooza - which led way to all of the music festivals that have flooded the concert circuit these days. "Nothing;s Shcoking' is one of the albums in my Top 10 and will always have the ability to bring me back in time to the days of my youth.

If it weren't for Nirvana, Jane's Addictions would have been the last best rock and roll band of the twentieth century. When the '90's are retro in 10 - 15 years, 12 year olds everywhere will be blown away by how cool their parents were the first time they turn the volume up on "Pigs in Zen" or "Had a Dad" or "Been Caught Steeling."
