True story, there was once a music fan so obsessed with Beethoven that he dug up his grave. When he opened the casket he was shocked to see Beethoven still alive in the coffin with an art gum eraser, furiously rubbing the notes off of stacks of sheet music. Beethoven looked up at the music lover and said "Shut the damn coffin, I'm decomposing!!!"

A bit of a hit and miss with his music. He wrote some so-so music but some brilliant ones also. The saddest part is that some of the most overplayed music he wrote are not nearly the good ones. Fur Elise, ouch.

I'll give him the thumbs up because he and classical music in general would have been an influence in Metallica's music.

One of only a select few of classical composers that I actually can appreciate for their talent.

What is more amazing than writing your best compositions while being deaf. How sad :(

Amazing how he pulled off writing all those great pieces and not being able to hear a note. Then we have all the talented artists and orchestras, past and present, who have performed his music. And all of us who have the ability to hear this music just listen away to it and forget that its creator was deaf. It's human nature for us all to take things for granted.

I like classical music....mainly Beethoven and Mozart. The others are so so. These two stand out the most for me.

Although classical music really isn't my style, I have the utmost respect for the composers.

I bought a heap of them over the last three weeks. In the next second semester, if possible, I' will be entering the classical European music class. I already study musical notes, the flat, the sharp, and the solfa notation in my primary school days. So this is gonna be easy for me to handle. However playing violin, piano, saxophone, cello, and trumpet may be a bit hard. So far, I love classical music.

Ironically, something of a victim of his own popularity (and definitely not as good a guitar player as Eddie Van Halen).

Its easy to say that his work has been overplayed because it has but its been 190 years overplayed. Not number one in the charts overplayed. Time is everyones worst enemy and Beethoven will stand its test. Sonatas 14, 19 and Symphony 5 are highlights.

I love all his music from his powerful works (5th Symphony) to romantic (Fur Elise) to sorrowful(Moonlight Sonata). And to write most of this music while being deaf is just genius.

There will only be one Ludwig van Beethoven in the history of humankind. He was a gift from God Himself to the world and a tormented genius. There will never be another like him. He is simply the Greatest!

Pure genius, just like Mozart. Imagine composing, writing, and playing beautiful music and not being able to hear it! Yes, Beethoven was deaf by the age of 30...probably from when he was abused by his dad when he was a kid.

I just cannot add anything new or unique here ... he is just the master, and operating under a handicap no less.
