01/28/2007 | There's nothing phony about the sounds or words of The Roots, unlike much of the more commercialized hip hop. This is one of the few hip-hop outfits that should be called a "band," not just a bunch of guys tinkering and sampling in a studio. ?uestlove is a true presence, both as a musician and as a scholar of other genres like rock and soul. He's completely digested those other genres, which gives him a distinctive way of laying down his beats. And not a lot of people outside of rock combine words and guitar as well as The Roots.

11/02/2000 | This is REAL MUSIC. The Roots are one of today's very few true talented artists. They show true skills by playing real instruments,not some garbage drum machine with a bunch of synthesizer noises on them, writing their own lyrics, and not imitating anyone. Too many artists out there today just try to sound like someone else. The Roots have their own style, and have shown me real ability on each and every album. If anyone else is searching for some true hip hop, I highly recommend the Roots.
