Cynicism and skepticism are not comedy. Stewart depends on this too much and it's simply not funny. Also his technique of humiliation is overused and is too mean spirited.

He's one funny guy!! Love him!!
FranksWildYear s 03/13/2009
He definately crossed the line last night delivering a scathing lecture to Jim Cramer and CNBC on responsible journalism. And a lot of the ire that Stewart brought forth was aimed at the larger Wall Street fraternity. But it was one of the most compelling half hours of television I've seen in a long time. I'm sure there will be those offended at a mere comedian playing the heavy on serious economic matters. But Cramer, the guy who was sent up by CNBC to face Stewart down, showed up to a gun fight with a pea shooter and no peas. It was a massacre.
BenCohen 08/01/2008
He is an intelligent, well read funny guy. Nuff said.
frenchiefastwa ves 07/24/2008
No wonder a lot of people don't like or understand him...He's intelligent, funny and all about politics!
Chalky 07/08/2008
Sorry, I don't find him funny at all. Really simple explanation.
Nett639 06/17/2008
I only get my news from cute funny Jews.
myspace-17490481 05/10/2008
He is amazing. Simple as that.
Automatt 05/02/2008
He's been at it for a while but he consistently interviews his guests with intelligence and respect. The opening segment is much better with the writers back.
tu3sday 01/06/2008
Extremely intelligent, great mixture of news and humor, and hilarious delivery of the "fake news"...
Oh, wait. FOX News delivers the fake news... I mean--"hilarious delivery of the news". ;]
And, of course, a fellow Jew. <3 Hehe.
SilverFox 09/13/2007
It's a bit of a stretch to include The Daily Show in this group, since it's mostly satire, and the interview segment is less than 50% (maybe less than 33%?) of the show. But Jon does manage to evoke some serious stuff mixed in with his humor while interviewing people, and he does select interesting people to interview. Sometimes I wish he would just leave the humor out of the interview segment, especially when it's someone with a lot of good stuff to talk about, but then that's what the serious talk show hosts should be doing, interviewing more interesting people. I like Stewart's intelligent, perceptive interviewing when he's being serious, though I also love his humor. Enough people liked his hosting of the Oscars that he was invited back to do it again this year.
SerpentSmasher 09/06/2007
He's not funny. Seems like he's straining with a lot of his delivery.
disgust4PCness 08/31/2007
So overrated...and full of himself. Colbert is 100 times better than Stewart.
bassman44113 04/22/2007
For heavens sake.....this is not news!!!!! He is a comedian.... a political comedian, and not even a good one at that. With him, its the left against the right. The left can never be wrong. The right are not just people with different opinions, they are drooling idiots. That doesnt seem like a very smart platform....he just alienated about half of his potential audience. The great political comedians made it us (the people), against them (the government), like the late great Will Rogers did. And I doubt very much if history will remember John Stewart the way Will Rogers is.
coltoncity 04/11/2007
Jon Stewart is a wonderful comedian that makes the news easier to watch. Cry or laugh? I would rather laugh and I still get great insight on political figures and some international poiltics. Over 30 likes this show also! :)
rok100 04/11/2007
Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show" is the number one "news" source of those under 30, and while the "grownups" like to pretend that this is some kind of outrage, let's all remember that it was those who watched CABLE and SATELLITE TV "news" networks - like FOX and CNN - who were the most DISINFORMED about the facts - in fact, like an infamous Nazi propagandist once commented on the importance of a well-controlled mass-media, the more one watches the news in a good facist society, the less one knows and the more confused they become.
The kids were right andmost of the "grownups" are now proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to be the fools and the dupes. Sean Penn knows WAY more about Iraq than Sean Hannity does! George Clooney's haircut has a higher IQ than George Bush. A fact is a fact and 2+2=4. Just watching the Bushies trying to spin those same tired old yarns - it just looks pathetic. Reality always gets the last laugh. It's laughing pretty HARD right about now! I imagine that it's getting pretty difficult for the FOL (friends of lunacy) to keep on arguing anything else.
There's a Revelation and a Revolution of Reality and Rationality Coming and It's Coming FAST!
Don't Bump Your Heads on the Facts, Conservatives !
(I'm watching Jon Stewart and the younger crowd, whenever THEY duck, I will too!)

It is a shame that a comedian on a fuax news show holds the record for most compelling news interviewer. He is incredibly well-read and really know how to ask the tough questions without ruffling feathers.
CommonSensePpl 05/25/2006
Any attempt to give this guy a failing grad must have come from some disgruntled right winger that hates to hear the truth. You dont have to love Jon Stewart but you have to respect and appreciate his brilliant talent at pointing out the retarded aspects of our lives. Be it in politics or some small town quirks he makes the wrong, the odd and the curiously hidden in plain sight more visible. He does it in an informative and hilarious manner. He is obviously on the left but luckily the right is providing the material. I do not see anyone funny out there making fun of democrats more than Jon Stewart does!!! Before criticizing Stewart, show me some right wing comedy, prove to me that there is material here to scold the left on. Good luck, the most you find is enough to fill in a quick segment in 30 minutes jammed with stupid right wing dooms dayers.
JohnSpina 03/25/2006
Is self deprecating if nothing else. Can be funny.A bit liberal for my tastes.
Djahuti 03/25/2006
Funny and personable. He seems like someone you could have a nice, intelligent conversation with.
Ih8rateitall 03/24/2006
Not funny and overrated, he got pity laughs at the Oscars.
geog84 01/20/2006
The next time we get a democratic President, he'll be out of a job!
boo_thishit 01/10/2006
Jon needs to work on his poor excuse for satire somewhere else. Perhaps France will take him. The only time I ever really appreciated him was that brief stint in Half-Baked. Other than that, he's no better than that loser, Al Franken.
Drummond 12/07/2005
The only thing I miss about cable since I ditched it. His show, and The Iron Chef.
raterater 11/14/2005
Watching this guy on the Daily Show made me reanalyze my understanding of the word "bias". Can you have a point of view and still be pretty objective? Watching Stewart I have to say yes, you can. He clearly has a point of view, which he is open about (he voted for Kerry, etc.), but the interpretation that's among the jokes has more clarity than any news source I can think of. In an interview Stewart said something that explained to me what I've been noticing: "We need a News channel that doesn't define truth in terms of Left and Right."
SamTheMan 11/07/2005
This is an absolute joke to have this guy higher than Letterman or Leno. In my opinion this guy is so predictable he's Boring with a capital B. He wasn't too funny in standup and this show is so simple to run that anyone over 12 knows the recipe: You take the daily DNC talking point claims that have no proof. Then you pretend that you know the truth, and of course it is the DNC talking points. Then you try to imply someone is a liar based on talking points that are far from being factual or proven. Oh, and if you didn't know, that's funny. If that's funny maybe we need a host that calls Bush a do-do head for about an hour. IOW, not insulting, but Boring with a capital B. I'll admit that he has some funny things but he has to throw in so many lamers to get the political talking points across, the good ones can't pull it out of the dumpster. Petty is the first thing that comes to mind instead of humor. Pretend you are an intellectual and behave like an adolescent who always has the need to lean over to whisper jokes in someone's ear so the dumb people won't know you're making fun of them. To the Democrats he's the Will Rogers of their time. When you think Howard Dean was a good selection for the DNC chairman's post, then yeah, Stewart is THE Will Rogers in their mind :) I'll spread the boredom around and place the same tag on Dennis Miller. The guy is incredibly smart and almost as quick as Robin Williams but the political humor becomes more of a pep rally... not necessarily the RNC talking points but Miller's talking points. IOW, he thinks for himself but it still is boring. I think Stewart can communicate with his guests better. Still there is absolutely no way this guy comes close to Leno or Letterman and of course never to the level of a political commentator. I'd rather watch one hour of Chevy Chase's Gerald Ford from Saturday Night Live.
Kairho 10/12/2005
If you watch carefully, this guy's interviewing techniques are improving by the day. I predict he will eventually be tapped for some moderately serious iunterviews.
ScottNATL 09/28/2005
Never a dull moment and he slams the bushies as they need to be slammed. Congrats on the upteenth Emmy win Jon and group!
Demanding 08/09/2005
Do not underestimate the importance of The Daily Show. Jon Stewart had some big shoes to fill after the departure of Craig Kilborne and he did so successfully. Let's start with the changes of the set, the desk use to be a long counter and the host got lost because of it. The Daily Show went thru several changes, the long desk got gradually shorter, but the copycat couch of The Tonight Show that never fit the image stayed on. The latest transformation is the most successful, the camera zooms in on a plain contemporary desk and the outdated couch has given way to a simple chair. Getting down to business, Jon Stewart is not a wannabe reporter he is a comedian that reports for the most part political news like very few can or could get away with. It is amazing how much can be accomplished with a smile on the face, it is equal opportunity satire at its best. The show is a must see for political junkies, viewers that are not up to date on what is happening on the political scene will miss the finer points and how good this show really is. The Daily show would not be complete without the contribution by its correspondents for special reports. Lewis Black is a regular on the show and tells it as it is his way and should not be missed. The show ends with celebrities.
daonionman 07/12/2005
Better than real news. He along with the in-field reporters use comedy as a way to boil down politics and other tough points for the common man to understand.
Timbo61 03/26/2005
Both funny and intellegent. He is obviously liberal, so if you are conservative, I can see why you may not like him, but The Daily Show is COMEDY. If you want sound political analysis, you shouldn't look on Comedy Central. Comedians always make fun of the president (Stewart certainly had a field day with Clinton) it comes with the territory.
singsplatsing 02/20/2005
I have no idea how anybody could not love this man. He's absolutely adorable. I'm not a liberal and I don't care if he is, because he's too hilarious to miss. He really should tell some more Dem jokes, though.
caveart 02/08/2005
He outs the hypocrisy and oppression of America with pure objective hilarity!
CanadaSucks 01/25/2005
Very, very, funny. . .I loved his old TV show. . .it was much funnier than the slop I see on TV. He's too smart for many Americans but still manages to stay relevant.
edt4 01/25/2005
Thank God for him. Not only is he and his crew sharp and insightful, they're funny. One of the few shows on the air that helps remind me that this is still America.
DaHoot 12/26/2004
Very clever and one of the best satirist out there. Even though he's a liberal, he has no problem pointing out problems on both sides. He has lately been a little outspoken for his own good but hey it's better than another O'Reily or Hannity rant.
Mr.Political 12/07/2004
He's an alright comedian and is clearly left leaning but he doesn't mind spreading the humiliation to all sides.
louiethe20th 12/06/2004
Can't believe he is still on air.Very boring and uninteresting.
khaileaverde 12/05/2004
Being liberal and knowing that Jon Stewart himself is also liberal, I'll try to stay focused on his performance in the show and not on his personalities or viewpoints. Jon Stewart is a talented comedian. I am amazed every night at how well he can make something so serious as politics so funny. He takes advantage of his stellar guests by asking them different questions which display other facets of their personalities. His humor is hardly stupid; instead, he is quick and witty, quickly pointing out silly holes and fluff in politics and politicians.
pennypingleton 11/13/2004
Absolutely hilarious! I watch The Daily Show every night. :) The jokes are always very funny, and part of what makes Jon Stewart so funny is just his facial expressions after someone says something stupid.
praveling 10/21/2004
Hilarious and quick, takes only milliseconds to home in on any absurdity that comes along.
epiphany 10/20/2004
Jon Stewart is another talented comedian who thinks people care about his opinion. Some may . . . I do not. I don't care about his opinion, Jerry Falwell's opinion, the fast boat veterans opinion, the Brits opinions, Putin's opinion, or anyone else's regarding this election and what is going on in the world. What matters to me is what I think about who I am going to vote for. Not what everyone else supposedly thinks. No actor, actress, singer, comedian,or talking head on the radio or TV, or these so-called political analysts are going to change the way I think and what I think is right or wrong. I listen to the candidates, I watch their actions, as actions speak much louder than words. I do research on my own time an check what the DNC and RNC are putting out as propaganda. I watch the news, I read the papers, I read the foreign papers on the Internet. Learn so much more about what is going on through the foreign press. Then I make a decision as to who I will vote for that is not based on anyone's opinion but my own, and I will be able to live with my decision.
alrightjim 10/20/2004
Stewart could have long ago sold out (like Dennis Miller did) He didn't. He goes on Crossfire and he talks just like he would if he'd come across these characters off camera. Like so many others Stewart is sick of the blustery sanctimonious posturing being passed off as virtue by the media. Real comedy bites deep into the meat of social propriety, look at Carlin. They are not being irreverant just to be arseholes. They are talking straight and exposing the bogus world of the indoctrinated busybody. At some point you have to play the game, or you lose your show, like Bill Maher. But to the extent you can still speak from a sensible openhearted perspective and not be ostracized from the mainstream, you should do it. There is nothing more frightening to the mean, ugly people who try to pollute our lives with their pinheaded sense of propriety than every day speech from clear thinking people. I hope Stewart keeps talking the way he has, and I hope he doesn't end up saying that one wrong thing that gets him targeted by some wrongheaded witchhunt.
EschewObfuscat ion 10/20/2004
Just as I was thinking this was the ugliest, most personal, most polarizing presidential campaign I had seen, and it would be tough to get any lower or more destructive, Stewart felt the need to unleash his own stream of epithets, at people who do the same thing he does (except they make an effort to exchange dissenting views with some civility) in an effort to appear to despise both sides of the political spectrum. I didn't think Morton Downey, Jr. was good for TV, or for the US, but it got ratings. What was the liberal equivalent of jingoistic again?
magellan 10/19/2004
Sharp guy. If you haven't seem the clip of Stewart annihlating the Crossfire guys on live today, it's worth checking out. Stewart made them look like partisan little kids, and showed off some serious camera presence in the process. I agree with him by the way - partisan hackery and bile is infecting just about every media outlet.
moonpie 10/19/2004
He should get extra credit for calling Tucker Carlson a dick.
jasper11 10/19/2004
Jon Stewart looked like a sad little man on Crossfire. It seems a couple little emmy's have him thinking he's significant. Stick to comedy, jackass.
abichara 09/26/2004
Despite being touted as fake news, Jon Stewart offers a consistently hilarious and very intelligent take on current events. Poking fun at some of these self-important twits in government and the media provides Stewart with a flow of new material that's consistently fresh and edgy. News cycles come and go, but Jon Stewart's fake news-casts is one of the few things worth watching on TV today, definitely more objective and even informative than what you'll get on FOX, CNN or any of the other 'real' news-stations.
