I remember when I was a kid this guy was considered a terrorist. When ever a plane was hi-jacked they talked to Arafat. With his Italian restraunt head gear and dark sun glasses. Now he is a politician. I don't think so! Update: He is dead now and the peace process has moved further along since he has gone vs. the time he was on the planet.

This guy was a first class creep, but one thing you gotta say for him, and that is, he moved from being a marginal guerilla terrorist to center-stage politically!

Ignatius, while I agree with your assertion that Arafat is a terrorist, I still can't bring myself to wish bad things on him. Now Bin Laden is pushing it....

Find a picture of fatty, then dig up a old photo of Ringo Starr....separated at birth! Actually, fatty is what many people would simply call a crime boss elsewhere.

A settler(he's from Egypt) and a mass murderer. Arafat is a leading contender for the worst thing that ever happened to his own people.

Arafat is just as evil as Bin Laden. It is a known fact that he sponsers terrorism. His own PLO groups funds and supports terrorists. He does absolutely nothing to stop it. Stalin is completely wrong. If he has done such a good job freeing his people from tyranny, why have thousands of them died under Arafat? Israel is defending herself, there not just going to sit back and get blown up. This guy dosent want peace, if he did, he would have accepted the 1998 offer, in which, Palestine would become an independant nation. They would have recieved 95% of thier demands. There never was a Palestinian country, as long as terrorists rule, there never should be. Arafat needs to be eliminated immediately.

Like Ariel Sharon, Yasser Arafat's time has passed. He is the head the Palestinian Liberation Organization, which is by and large controls Palestinian affairs although recently there has been competition from Hamas, a religious organization. From the 1960's to the 1980's, Arafat headed up operations against Israel from his base in first Jordan and then Lebanon. After Israel invaded Lebanon in 1983, he was forced to move to Tunisia by the victorious Israelis. After the First Intifada in 1988, Arafat denounced terrorism and recognized Israel's right to exist. So begins the grindingly slow and politically fractuous prospect of peace negotiations. The 1993 Oslo Agreements granted the Palestinians limited self-government with Arafat heading it up. Arafat in 1995 called for self-rule of all Palestinian cities in the West Bank. The problem has been the establishment of borders and Jerusalem are major issues which have stopped the peace process. A combination of events have caused Arafat to lo... Read more

How can anyone give this guy anything more than one star? He is a murderer and a terrorist. He is responsible for the mess that the Palestinians are in now, but that is only the beginning of his crimes. He is responsible for starting the Lebanese civil war, and the murder of thousands of Christians in Lebanon. He started an organization, the PLO, which has as its expressed purpose the destruction of Israel.

He once was a terrorist/freedom-fighter but now is no more then an incompetent, power hungry leader afraid to let go and open the PA to make it a real democracy. After this Iraq war, the USA is looking to gain some credibility in the Arab world by trying to sort out the Palestine/Israeli mess. This is a perfect time for him to show he can lead, but yet again he will fail his people miserably and leave them to another decade under ocupation. While personally, I support a free palestine, and can undersatand their resistance against Israely ocupation, I despise the murdering of innocent civilians - by both sides.

Arafat is a failure. All these years as the PLO leader and his people are worse off than ever. The Palestinian people should rid themselves of this evil and ineffective man immediately or they'll have no hope for peace or prosperity.

What a wonderful corpse this filthy Islamo-Fascist Thug will make. He is a inept coward with a Wife who lives in France with his child (no martyrdom for her). The Nelson Mandela of the Muslim world, who can't win a war based on the courage and ability of his people in open combat but by stealth and capitulation of his opponents under pressure by a motley collection of dimwitted internationalist leftist trash.

The Michael Collins of the Palestinians. Realizes that to throw off the shackles of oppression one sometimes needs to take extreme measures, but also needs to be willing to be a politician. This man is both, Israel is making it so that he can't lead by keeping him in his compound, then blaming him for not doing more to stop the suicide bombings,; who are they trying to kid? Who is stupid enough to swallow that?

I'll be fair and give this guy the same rating as I gave the Israeli PMs- one star. Both sides are lying, two-faced murderers. America should be neutral and let these two sides kill each other off.

arafat sucks. you are all stupid for thinking he is a freedom fighter. he is a killer. you think you know what you are talking about? try to leave in israel for just one day, for one pathetic missreable day. all you american's think you no what terror is? you no nothing. you had one terror attack and thats it. here in israel we have lots of terrorism attacks every day. you should have seen my school after one of the attacks- every body crying hearing one name after another of a friend thats hurt or dead, every body with thier cell phones looking for thier friends and some days/weeks after that kids was starting to appear, on crutches or wheel chairs. half of the school was like that. some of the kids are'nt even back yet, some of them are still on crutches or limping. try to go to a school like that, try to live in a country like that and then i want to see you talking about how great arafat is. and i'm not saying that the israeli athourities are not to blame for some of whatis going o... Arafat is a unique man. Although losing most battles he remains the undisputed leader of the palestinians in their struggle to become liberated and free from the ruthless jewish military occupation. His efforts to raise awareness of the plight of palestinian refugees for more than 50 yrs is applaudable. The world now realizes the suffering of millions of Palestinians caused by Israel's refusal to allow refugee's safe passage to their homes (as required by int'l law and human rights conventions)

You know how good a man is by his enemies. he is fighting for the freedom of his people who have been dispalced and massacred by israelis. Like all freedom fighters, he is labelled by many governments as a terrorist. but as nelson mandella said of his best friend: Arafat, you are the last freedom fighter alive!
