I own a 2000 Toyota Tundra and was driving north on Interstate 95 in Maine. Wihtout warning, the back end of the truck suddenly lifted up off the pavement while travelling at 65 mph. When I regained control of the vehicle, I looked into the rear view mirror to see a tire bouncing erratically across several lanes of northbound traffic. Cars were braking and swerving to avoid collision with the tire and fortunately it came to a rest against the median guardrail without crossing into southbound lanes and without damage to vehicles or injury to drivers. I immediately pulled into the emergency breakdown lane and inspected the truck to find that the spare tire was missing and a large corroded hole existed in the frame from which the tire had been mounted. I retrieved the tire and placed it in the bed. The following Monday I took the truck to the Toyota dealer where it was purchased to received an evaluation from a mechanic of what went wrong and if it can be repaired. The Toyota dealer claim... Ok, what is with all the bashing of this truck? I do not believe for one second that any of you who wrote with all the comedy of problems you so called experienced with the Tundra Truck actually happened to you. So, if you were on the GMC side, Chevrolet 1500 or 2500 side or of course the all Man truck--- Dodge Ram, you would give perfect scores across the board because, yes, they are American made trucks which is a bias right there. Let's face it, many people hate the fact that Toyota designed a truck that is sleek, smooth and very attractive not to mention pretty powerful for its type. There is still the old rice burner mentality floating around the fact that Toyota owners have cheated on America by purchasing a Japanese truck. Well, the truck is made in the USA; but not by Union workers rather workers that take pride in building not only a great truck but a great product overall. Toyota and their CEO are not raping the company dry so that they have to run to Washington for a bailout... Read more

As the owner of a 2002 Tundra, I am very happy with this truck. During the six years I have had it, I have had only one problem, and that is a sqeaky serpentine belt whenever it's damp, humid, or cold out (noise goes away once warmed up). Other than that, it's been great. The gas mileage could be better, but it's a truck (a V8 4WD one at that), not a Prius or Yaris.

The new Tundra is the most manliest looking truck out of all the new trucks coming out in 07'. This is why it earns a 5 star for me, hell I'm just a dumbass 18 yr old kid I'm gonna rate it on how it looks...I don't really car how the damn thing drives...

We just bought a 07 tundra, wow!  The power for one, the room with the double cab, better gas mileage than our old GMC Sierra and fun to drive!  Standard air bags all around, very safe.  Great customer service where we live, but can vary where you live I suppose.  Would highly recommend!

extensive engine problems, poor dealer customer support, lower crash test ratings as well as several other problems lead me to believe toyota should have stuck with the smaller stuff. if you are going to work the truck the domestic trucks are the way to go.

2005 Tundra 4x4 has been to the repair shop 17 times. Bought it brand new. Garbage. From pinging motor to brakes every 5000 miles. DO NOT BUY A TOYOTA. You will be sorry, I am. Folsom Lake Toyota is the worst dealer on the planet.

We have enjoyed our 2002 Tundra, and had no problems until this year....at 70.000 miles the brakes had to be replaced but we had to take it back 2 more times to get them right, and still not perfect. At 75,000 (and we had the transmission fluid changed) the transmission suddenly went out. No warning, and no previous problems. Now it seems the ECM (the computer brain for the truck)Unit has gone out. We have kept perfect maintenece on this truck. This has really been disappointing as we had expected high mileage from a Toyota product...

Disappointing, to say the least. Toyota USA(?) should take the blame for design and flaws. 2002 Limited should be a flagship, not a leaky one. ADMIT IT AND FIX IT TOYOTA!!! i.e. front end/suspension, rotor/brake, Oxygen sensor malfunction(s), for starters. Am I alone on this?

Toyota is not honest with Tundra owners (2000-2003). Brakes have a design flaw, but Toyota only issued a service bulletin which only goes to dealerships. Up to dealer to tell you and most won't until warranty has expired!

Worst vehicle I have owned for defects. 2001 tundra - 38000mi brakes are bad but dealer did not tell about problem or repairs. Also engine rattles when a cold start is made. Really bad vehicle.

I own a 2002 Tundra and at 35000 miles I had to get the brakes replaced at 40000 miles the battery went to crap. This is a nice and very expensive truck and it is giving me more problems than I ever expected. Not even my Ford Escort with 86000 miles has given me all these problems!!!!

Great gentlemen's truck, not for roughing it out. If you are a owner, just watch out for the following: (1) Ball joint design is defective, and will disengage without warning (2) brakes are defective, and will cost you plenty in fixes (3) seat covers are of poor quality and you need to change the driver side seat by 70K. Toyota will not help you with the brakes or when your ball joint disengages. If you want a real truck, the Tundra isnt it. It is great for grandpops who takes it for sunday drives. If you are interested in joining a class lawsuit action to sue Toyota with regards to the Tundra Brakes, please contact [email protected] or those in the pacific area, please contact [email protected]

Like with everything else, you get what you pay for. Toyotas cost a little more but you don't have to spend time fighting with the dealer over poor American quality.

Being a Toyota fan (have an old Camry) and living in Indiana where the Tundra is built, I decided to buy one. I tried out every other truck on the market, but came back to the Tundra. Smooth, refined, powerful, comfortable, and the ability to haul alot of stuff, the Tundra is hard to beat. It also has the best brakes in it's class, which stops it better than most much lighter sedans. The stereo is great, too, with both tape and CD players. The best feature is the i-Force V8. This engine is so much more refined than other truck engines. People him and haw about the Tundra's size, but I don't need a humungous truck that I need a CDL to drive and a hangar to park it in. This truck is about the best there is, and will last far longer than other trucks, and the build quality perfect. Very solid. BTW, my truck is a 2002 SR5 Tundra with a V8 4WD and the Access Cab, and it's black in color with tan cloth interior. 16K and no problems, and I don't expect any for a long time yet, if e... Its all around a good, reliable truck. But, it lacks many features that the domestics have. It dosent have a diesel engine, lacks bed choices, and lacks design versions (Like Harley Davidson, Lariat, etc.). It lacks a full size crew cab model. Just becuase their is 4 doors on a truck, dosent mean its a crew cab.

transmission failed @ 50K, starter failed@40K, heater controls failed @ 51K....many minor failures from antenna falling off to bedliner warping...just goes on and on. A Toyota owner for 25 years but would never buy another nor would I recommend to anyone. Poor reliability and quality control !!!!

You see i am a sex titan, i enjoy sex and i am very good at it; so naturally i am very intelligent when it comes to discussing automobiles. I will give this truck a mild rating for numerous reasons. One is its appearance. When you look at this truck does it make you say "Damn, now thats a nice truck?" No. It doesn't. If you are going for great appearance and a truck that babes dig, as well as most other cool people, go for the frontier. The frontier has better power as well. But the Tundra does have some better qualities than the frontier. The problem is that they are nonimportant. Such as the width of the rubber for stock tires (go out and get some aftermarket ones). Also, the Tundra has a deeper glove box by 4 cubic inches. If that is important to you, then buy this truck. Otherwise go with the Nissan CC SC Frontier. It will make the ladies love you and the guys think you are cool. And remember, I am the... Read more

I have driven just about every pickup on the market but when I drove the Tundra I was sold. The ride is smooth and quiet, it has plenty of power, 4-door convenience, very nice interior, and sharp looking exterior. The Tundra is at home on the streets of the city or going down a muddy country road. I would recommend it to anyone.

This by far the nicest truck for the dollar available in the American market. Solid, quiet, fast, powerful, roomy, fun. I am a past owner of each of the big 3 and all I can say is "Watch out! Here comes Tundra!".
