Wow! Sounds like alot of peeps getting ripped off by the transmission mechanics. Save yourself thousands of dollars and change out the sensors and/or solenoids that are most likely causing your probs. I've heard the horror stories too and my 95 cummins turbo diesel still runs like new with 265,000 but I've changed the sensors twice and the solenoid once. She ain't pampered, she works for a living but my transmission mechanic already has his plate full and doesn't have time to rebuild one that doesn't need it.

I have a 1997 2500 4x4 with the diesel engine, manual transmission, and 231,000 miles. I bought the truck brand new and it has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. I have never had an engine problem and am still on the original clutch. Have had to replace the usual wear parts like ball joints, but the only thing that has outright broke on the truck was the gas gauge at 100,000 miles. I didn't even bother fixing it. I just set my trip meter and fill up every 500 miles. You better believe I will buy another one, not to replace my old buddy, but to replace my wife's minivan!

i have a 2000 ram 2500 with 89000 miles on it. all i do is tow a 4000 pound trailer around 8 hrs a day and i am still on the first transmission. I love this truck, my buddy has a ford and he's already replaced the torque converter at 50000, the front end, the rear end, and had fuel injection probs with his 6.0 diesel, FOUND ON ROAD DEAD more than once. I haven't replaced anything but tires and brakes. So buy a ford and a good pair of walking shoes.

What I like Love the seperate fans for A/C and engine cooling. Love the fact that it has P/S pump cooler, and Tranny cooler. Style. The towing option has both 4 and 7 prong plugs. Adj pedals for my short wife. What bugs me Defroster vent glare on windshield. Driver door seal rubbed and tore soon after buying, dealer replaced seal as per TSB. Oil gets all over P/S rack during oil change. I know it is a two wheel drive and not made for the snow but I had to drive it a few time in the snow and it practicly gets stuck in a flat parking lot, whith even 800lbs of sand in the back. Maybe different tires could help. Rides somewhat harsh when empty on bumpy roads, but it is a 2500 so that can be expected. Rides best with a load in the back. No tow hooks on a 2500???? Overall I tow a car to several car shows per year. This vehicle has done an ourstanding job. Never had a problem pulling hills in the summertime with A/C on. Car and trailer weigh approx 5k. Can hardly tell the vehicle an... Read more

Need a truck with a great amount of power, space, comfortability, and cleanliness? Try the '04 Cummins Diesel, quad-cab, long bed. The truck looks great, drives great, and gets me about 23 mpg on city and highway! Oh, by the way, 0 problems, and if there are any, there's a warranty on the Ally Tranny! Eat our DUST, Ford Lovers! Our truck only costed us $33,500 out the door!

LOVE IT! I have a 2003 2500 4x4 QC with the Cummins HO and new auto trans and absolutely love this truck. Took it on a trip from NC to MI. I drove this Beast through the mountains of WV to the deep Woods of MI and had no probs plus great gas milege. Duramax and Powerstroke better go back to the drawing board to keep up with this Cummins HO. I love leaving fords and chevys eating my diesel exhaust.

Cummings Deisel with a manual transmission. I HATE to drive this truck! I'm used to a manual transmission - but this one is so rough that you really have to battle with the gear shift. Can't wait until my lease is up.

I have a '97 Ram that is the absolute worst vehicle that I have ever owned. It has less than 80,00 miles on it and it is ready to have its third transmission. I know of 5 other people who have owned Rams and they all told me the same thing, they would never buy another one again!

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins engine. Great engine - horrible transmission!! When will Dodge get a clue and design a reliable trans? Overdrive solenoid and governer replaced at 24K. Complete replacement at 46k. Truck has been used to tow at the most 1400 pounds! Look at any Dodge forum and what topic is ALWAYS discussed - tranmission problems!! I'm selling this truck to buy a Toyota! At least they have a sense of quality!!!

We have a 97 Dodge Ram 2500 V-10 and LOVE it!! It is the best tow vehicle we have had and we tow thousands of miles a year. We have had 0 problems with our Dodge and I can not say that about the last 2 Ford F-250 we had.

There's something about RAM's it hard to put a finger on but RAM owners seem to have an attitude. Maybe it's like they have to prove their RAM's are better then your Chevy or Ford. Scarey :( Scarey :( Actually Intrepid and Bonnieville drivers are about on par with the RAM drivers. The new RAM's look a ton better than the old ones buttt it hard to take a Chrysler truck serious with Chryslers quality record. Maybe that's why the RAM drivers have an attitude - they are all P__ed Off about their trucks quality! :) Peace Brother! :)

Loud, ugly, bad towing vehicle. If you want to tow anything get a dually...the rams are terrible for towing.
