This was a good movie and a bold movie at that, relating to the passion and death of Christ. What I thought was particularly remarkable was the use of the original languages. That took a lot of work and research and indeed rehearsal to get the spoken word somewhat correct. What was more interesting was the political reaction and the statements of the Jewish lobby about anti-Semitism and such. The film does run down the fault line between Christian and Jew. It does seem rather odd that Jews can ridicule and disparage the Christian religion without serious comment. On the other hand, a serious recitation of the passion, and those responsible, most of them Jews, as taken almost literally from the Bible is hysterically attacked by the Jews. Hmmmm!

I like how the series of events are being portrayed in the movie. It was very realistic and while watching the movie, I can imagine how it was during that time of Christ. I like this movie very much!!! Watching it made me realized and feel what a great sacrifice Jesus did for mankind salvation from sin. I highly recommend this movie to watch...

the only thing dragging this movie down are athiest, but thats their belief, let them be like that they have all the rights and cn do as they please, and if i say more they'll come and persicute me. but those who want proof that god exists hear this. there are many prodecies written in the bible that are already happening. the bible says in revelations that there would be a monster earthquake that would occure in the future (from the time this was written). in 1755 lisboa suffered one of the worsts earthquakes in history. it also says the sun would go dark. hundreds of years later, in may 19 1780, england went completely dark by the sun. many say it was from smoke but no real sickness would have been reported, and the sun after that became red, meaning it would have been likely that it was from the sun. and then it says the moon turned red like blood. on the clear night after th darkened sun , from the sun, the moon turned red like blood. then the bible mentioned a "rain of stars", im g... Yes, there was a lot of blood and gore in this movie. But it was not a picnic up on the cross when He gave His life for the world. The movie was made to get people to think about Christ's sufferings. I'm sure there may have been a few inaccuracies in the movie, as there is in any other film of this nature. It is very sad to think of all the things that Christ went through, but what makes it even worse is when people will continue to mock, laugh, and make fun of something so serious. He gave His life so we could have everlasting life. It makes me very sad that people can't get the real grasp of this movie.

I am a Christian, but Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. There are several problems with this film. Obviously, millions of people know who Christ is, but I think it's important to give the viewer some idea of why we should care about this guy in the movie. There is no story! The occasional 10-second flashback is not enough to give anyone an idea of who this great man was. I think most of the Christians who watched this are missing the point that this is a movie! It's not like God came down and guided Mel Gibson's hand in making this. This is one guy's opinion, one guy's vision of what happened. And to tell you the truth, it's a pointless two hours of torture. This movie gives no picture of the wonderful things Christ did during his life. I think it would have been an outstanding movie, if they had first set it up with some scenes from earlier in his life, his ministry, his healing. Then, the viewer could truly be upset when they start to... Read more

I seen the movie with my church when it came out. As a christian this is a must see movie regardless what you may think of Mel Gibson. The new rich sound you get with blu-ray made the sound of every whip Jesus received a blood curling event as well as when the nails are place in the hands and feet. It made me get off the couch saying enough is enough more then once. This will show you what Jesus went through to set us free. Not a movie to watch lightly.

A great Movie, well done. Proves to the naysayers just how much love he had for us. For those who think it was too violent well being crucified is violent. I'm sure the actual event was worse than this film portrayed.

This was a fantastically violent snuff film, in the tradition of passion plays throughout the middle ages.  During the middle ages, people would watch stuff like this in between seeing people hanged, flayed, and beheaded in the public square.

I decided to watch this movie (on Starz or maybe an HBO channel) for the first time about a year after it came out in the theaters. Based on the opinions of the public and many critics (which were extremely varied anyways) -and the fact that I hadn't seeen a good Jesus movie come out in so many years- admittedly I had low expectations for this film. In every conceivable way it turned out to be a LOT better than I anticipated. The entire film covers only Christ's last day or two before his crucifixion...and then his actual crucifixion. It begins during the last supper, which leads to Judas's betraying kiss to Christ being mocked by the Jews, punished by the whippings and the crown of thorns and then the Cross at Gethsemane. I found the entire movie to be extremely dramatic. I was amazed at how drawn in I was to drama, almost to the point of tears at some points of the movie. The people spoke Aramaic (hence the English subtitles) to add more authenticity, and the actions on the ... Read more

Fist, anything that gets Jesus talked about in the Newpapers, on Television, around the water cooler at work, in the bar and the clubs is better than not having him talked about at all. I think the movie artistically and even theologically had some good things in it. I liked how that evil was not presented in a cartoon like fashion, not was it presented as unattractive. Gibson, here, at least gets you thinking about Satan and evil and what exactly is that? Also the movie has people asking what did his death mean? Why did they kill him? These are always good questions to be asking and this movie somewhat forces that kind of thing. Second, having said that, Gibson's supposed concern about staying faithful to the text is absolute garbage. He really cuts it up and does some bizarre things. What he is actually faithful to, as it turns out, is not the Biblical text itself, but a late medieval fantasy passion which has some very bizarre wrinkles and twist to it. Third, Gibson does not ... Very passionate and fervent movie about the end of life of Jesus (peace upon him). It's certainly not an anti-semitic movie. It's the real story of Jesus like we can read in the Holy books. This movie of Mel Gibson have not been authorized to broadcast in lots of countries in the world and in France too. It's thanks to a men (note down that he is a Muslim) that the movie had been broadcasted in France.

This movie was the BEST version of Jesus's finale twelve hour EVER made!!!Mel Gibson is BRILLIANT!!!Poor Jesus!!He had to go through ALL that hell to save the ENTIRE human race for our sins!!!And I am so SICK of people insulting the s--- out of Mel and his movie!!!I KNOW that the movie was VERY violent. But that's 'cause it HAD to be.That how brutal Jesus's crucification REALLY was!!!Mel wanted his version to be the MOST realistic to the actual event, and he worked his ASS of to do it!!!I admit that he slightly overdid it with the violence a bit. That's why he went back and edited some of the unnessicary violence in "The Passion Recut".OKAY?!!!Now NO more bitching!!!Alright!!!

Romans 10:17 - Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. John 1:1-4+ In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him and without Him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life and the life was the light of men. Exodus 20:3-5 Thou shalt have no other gods before Me. Thou shalt not make to thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: thou shalt not bow down to them ( = worship), nor serve them: for I the Lord am a jealous God... Jesus, whom the apostle John identifies as the Word of God, has ascended into heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father interceding on the behalf of those who have placed their faith in Him. To make an image of Him - who is in heaven - by way of a movie ... Read more

The Passion explicitly showed the suffering Christ withstood for the sins of man (if you are a believing Christian). The movie is gripping and phenomenally done. I have no idea what Chatholic teaching is but Catholic teaching is such that all mankind bears the burden of His death and at no time does this movie mention Jews whatsoever nor does it attempt to guilt Jews into being Christians (which there are many sects only one being Catholic). The hype is that it's anti-semetic.

I have yet to see the film in its entirety, but what i have seen convinces me that it's not about propaganda or blame, or any such crap. It's about the last little bit of Jesus' earthly life and His death upon the cross. One thing that convinces me that it's not propaganda to slight Jews or other such nonsense is that Mel Gibson wielded the hammer. That speaks to the basic truth that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and that each of us are responsible for a hammer blow upon the nails.

Interesting. Some people seem to think this movie was a documentary. The fact is, critically speaking, the movie is just a badly done, two-hour anti-Semitic snuff film with dialogue and caricatures that even Cinemax would be ashamed to show at 2am. I can't wait for the sequel, The Christ Strikes Back.

I think that Gibson is so egocentric and hungry for attention that he chose the most opportunistic subject and manner of depiction possible: religion, Jesus, snuff movie-like violence,top-models (Belucci) as Biblical figures (JESUS! indeed). She was OK, but was it really necessary to cast such an en vogue sex-bomb in THIS movie?Filming was good, but what's the point?I never liked Gibson too much anyway, but after this, I hope I don't hear from him again. It is Ok to have an opinion about any subject, including Jesus, but the whole project seems commercial and forced. Leave the directing to other people, Mel, and maybe do another Mad Max movie? Maybe Mad Max fighting a severe hemoroid condition?

I thought this film was very beautifully filmed, very simplistic and very, very good. As some of you may know, I'm not a religious person, but I did appreciate this film. To anyone who thinks that subtitles are distracting - you are missing out on a wealth of fantastic foreign films, unless you can withstand disgustingly bad dubbing with horrible voiceovers. I think one of the reasons why I like this film is because it wasn't screaming at people to believe in Jesus and God. It was just simply saying 'this is what this man suffered and he took it on'. It could have been rounded out a bit better, but the essence of the story is there. The scenes of him being whipped and nailed to the cross were convincing and certainly made me wince. Hats off to Mel Gibson, he could have gone over-the-top and made it longer than 2 hours and far more intense, but he kept it in line and I definately do not regret having this in my DVD collection.

I saw this movie today for the first time ever. It is very well made, and more Scriptural (in my opinion) than any other Biblical film I have ever seen. And it is very moving (have a box of tissues next to you)! I say there is something seriously wrong with anyone who views this film and remains untouched.

Come on, how can anyone that calls him/herself a Christian give any less than 5 stars? I feel everyone has a right to thier own opinion but I also feel if you don't feel anything from watching this masterpiece, you are not in touch w/your Maker. Mel did an excellent job w/ this movie. The casting was excellent. I can't say that anyone could have played Jesus better than Jim. What an outstanding experience. As for people who saw nothing in this film and those of you who are atheist and agnostic's, I will pray for you. :o)

Powerful, touching, amazing, wonderful. It was absolutly the movie of the year. Better yet, it was based on truth. Mel Gibson was incredible and this was well thought of. It was different. So what? I agree with Bird808 and how people were saying that this movie was violent. It was violence that actually happened. The rating which is R stands for rememberence and repentance and realization. It does have blood and it does have graphic images and it will make you want to close your eyes at times. But this movie was so wondefully put together with truth and gospel and with God most of all. Very well done.

I really can't see what all the hype is about -- this movie was no different than any Sunday school class or biblical epic from years gone by; it just had more blood and gore. There was violence for violence's sake, and all Gibson did was tell us a story we already know; yet, it's a story that is uncontested. The subtitles were distracting and took a lot away from the performances given by the actors. The saddest part is Gibson's statement (along with his father) that the Holocaust was a mainly fictionalized event -- but unlike the death of Christ, we actually have documented evidence of the Holocaust. It sickens me that Gibson is making so much fortune off a film about a religious figure. Kind of ironic, is it not?

Represented a real passion and suffering - it touched us we all must admit , but you have this feeling that it has the same flavour of the movie ( Brave Heart ) - thats why i gave 4 instead of 5 because it should have a different falvour he is not a guy who librates his country but he is God's messanger..
