I've heard it's really an Audi... and not one of Auto Union's most reliable models.

If I ever felt the need to buy one of these, to Settle a bet or because I was Forced at gunpoint, I would prefer the Classic to these new Toy cars. But in all honesty, I'm not a chick or a Hippie so I don't really have an interest in them. On the other hand, it may be Kinda cool to have a car where people wail on each other every time you Drive by.

I have had relatives who owned them but I am too large for them.

I used to have to drive these things for city car share, and I hate them. There's terrible visibility, and an uncomfortable lack of headroom.

I can't see me driving one but have friends with them and they love them. They are very cute and the convertables are fun.

I liked the original better. It had a character about it that the new just can't quite capture.

My last 2000 beetle just got totaled two weeks ago : (  In the two years that I had it, my battery died $100, (fortunetly I didn't have to get it replaced at a dealership as I found alocal body shop that knew how to work on beetles) The flip switch for the gas never worked (I never got it fixed and ended up having to pry the opening open with my hands),  I was hit in the front bumber by an old asian guy who's only defence was that there was no stop sign in the parking lot ($1,000....fortunetly his insurence paid for that), and I totaled my car while the car in front of me...who randomly stopped in the middle of the street, has a little ding in her bumber!...Oh, and a Venti size drink from Starbucks won't fit in the coffee cup place. (Just thought you ought to know)Now, with all that said, I still believe that the New Beetle is a great price for the size and reliablility of the car. Yes, replacing things that break can get expensive especially since you usually have to go to the dealer,... Read more

Just got a 2006 2.5L Package 1 Convertible. What a nice little car for the money! I wanted a little city hopper for running errands that was economical. Off the showroom floor, I am getting 30mpg. The engine and tiptronic transmission are from Audi and it shows. The car has a few rattles and with the top up, is a bit noisier than I expected. I was considering this or a new Honda S2000, and am glad I bought this car. We can get 2 full sets of golf clubs on the back seat with the top down. We couldn't get 1 set of clubs in the S2000. I get lots of looks, since I changed the wheels to 18's (16's are standard) with matching color centers (platinum gray) and installed a full real carbon fiber interior. My only real complaint is the sound system, which lacks any boost. I use the factory iPod link and the sound is mediocre. Radio reception sucks. The 6 disc CD player (trunk mounted) is old tech. I'd like to see VW have a bit more advanced electronics.

I just got my new beetle in feb of this year and so far this is the best car ive owned.. i had a toyota tercel(three engines in two years) then i had a golf(constant tranny problems including jerky gear changes..) i have never gotten so much attention driving a car as i do this one of course there are little problems but every car manufacturer has little issues no ones perfect and the dealership i take my car to is always tip top and very fast and friendly. there name is bozzani vw in covina ca and if you have a new beetle under warranty that is the place to go. awesome people..the people who owned my beetle didnt take care of it so when i got it it wasnt in the greatest shape..luckily it is still under warranty. i got the little things fixed. the thermostat the air conditioner and a few other things at no charge. they always try to find a way so that i dont have to pay for things and if i do they make it up with car washes and great service. i bought a glx and i am in the process of t... I was so excited to be buying my beetle (October 2000, I have a 2001). They were just the most appealing car I had seen. After owning my car for 3 years I can honestly say t's been nothing but trouble! Complete nightmare actually. My list of repairs: 1. New disc changer (warrantee) 2. Middle console broke off in my hand! $30 3. The switch on the door to open the gas tank broke $100 4. Did NOT pass it's very first safety inspection due to the mass airflow meter. Talked the dealership into paying for that. But... 5. Mass airflow meter blew out the O2 sensors $172 6. Car burns oil like crazy! Dealership eventually decided (after 3 years of trouble) I needed a WHOLE NEW ENGINE! The pistons are the wrong size (my car was built wrong!). Glad it was under warrantee but as soon as I got it back it wouldn't start! Got it back to the dealership...now needs a new battery and alternator for the bargain price of $990! Here are a few other new beetle problems. Headlights burn out constantly...I've... Read more

Time to cancel it for 04. Sales are far down since last year- dont ruin it. Let it go down in history with at least some heritage. Its design allows it to flip over just like any Tahoe or Expedition. Its tiny inside, dont see how it is roomy. Where's the trunk? Good gas mileage, but over $18k for any compact is a waste of money.

Most unique design and safest in its class. The beetle is yesterday's tomorrow packaged with a new turbo diesel fuel option. A very complete car.
