The 2006 is an excellent re-design with added content (heated seats, telescoping steering wheel etc on LX model). The content exceeds the comparable mid-size sedans, e.g. Accord, Camry, Impala. The quality was at one time suspect but the past few iterations of models have scored near or even at the top of J.D. Powers. I have owned two Hyundais with good experience. My own experience together with recent quality improvements make this an attractive choice in the category. Made in Alabama now - that helps. Minor issues, the audio controls on the steering wheel only include volume and am/fm switches, no channel skip or scan. The front seats are a little small for my 235 pound frame, like most cars.

I own a 98 Sonata GL and I'm quite pleased with it. Like some others, I didn't care for the Hyundai at first. But this car has grown on me, and I like it far better than the Ford Taurus I owned before. I took a 3700 mile round trip in it this past summer and it got nearly 28 mpg with the 3.0 V-6. It also "feels" more powerful than you would expect from a Korean import. When I'm finally ready to trade, I'm certainly going to give the new Sonata LX strong consideration.

I just recently traded in my '88 Toyota Corrolla for a 2000 Sonata. I have been very pleased with it. So far I like almost everything about it. The things I don't like aren't enough to complain about and are fixable. It is a good car for me to drive to school. It's comfortable, rides good, has front-wheel drive (for snowy days), good gas-mileage, and has enough power. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but I don't need alot. It's very nice for the money that I paid for it and I am very happy with it.

A complete piece of JUNK! We traded our 2003 Sonata. More has gone wrong with both of our Hyundai's than I can list. Folks, you get exactly what you pay for. I should have been smart enough to really see that prior to purchase. They lure you in with a fantastic warranty but constantly getting repairs gets time consuming, inconvenient and old. It takes FOREVER for the dealers to get the parts that so often break. Please steer clear!!!! BUY AMERICAN!!!!! Update: Traded for a brand new silver Chrysler PT Cruiser.

01 Sonata, 66k miles. Drive it everyday for work.
After all this time and mileage, I have no doubt that the Sonata is one of the best values for the money.
If money was no object I would drive another car, but i am very happy with the Sonata.
Small issues: 4 cyl idle is a little rough, air bag light came on twice.
My next car will be a Hyundai.

I have owned (and been stuck with)my 2001 Hyundai Sonata since Summer 01. I was attracted by the low price for this v6 engine car. However I have had my car serviced for problems 20+ times in 4 years. Often my vehicle was detained in the dealership for 4-5 days.If this car is your choice because of the price... I would STRONGLY urge that buyers purchase/request additional coverage for free rental vehicle while your new car is being serviced. It has been my experience to find myself carless far too many times while Hyundai service attempted to rectify numerous problems.

I've never really thought much of the Hyundai brand. They, along with Kia, continue to have a poor-quality stigma with me (and, judging by the ratings here, I'm guessing many others). However, I've had a change of mind during the last several weeks. A friend of mine recently bought a new '04 Sonata, and soon thereafter, I had the pleasure of driving it for a short distance. Though it was only a short (15-minute) drive, I must say I was thoroughly impressed with this vehicle. The exterior styling is sharp, a good combination of Mercedes and Jaguar overtones. The interior is every bit as plush and comfortable as a Camry. Fit and finish appear superb throughout, even under the hood. Though the acceleration (even for a V-6) is a little sluggish, the ride is smooth and quiet. Steering responsiveness does leave a little to be desired. Michelin tires come standard, and a 10-year, 100K warranty is available. All in all, the Sonata strikes me as a more than competent alternative to the Accord (which I've owned for 9 years), Camry, and Altima, and every bit as good as, if not better than, the Chevy Malibu. Next time I'm in the market for a midsize sedan, I will definitely give the Sonata a serious look.

We bought an 02 sonata GLS with the V6 and are more than plesed with the car. On a recent trip we averaged 27mpg. The car performs great plus we recived a lot of postive comments from people how have ridden in and looked at the car.I am Glad and very well satisfied in buying this car.it had more standard things on it than if I had bought someting else which would have cost a lot more. In all it is a great buy for the money

The Sonata is one of those "controversial" cars. On one side, people think its garbage. On the other, people think the low price and high warranty is great. Here's the deal. The 02 redesign has made the car much better over its older version. The V-4 is weak, but the V-6 is pretty good. However, all Hyundai's have the horrible reputation for being extremely unreliable. The 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty sounds great, but unfortunately does not cover the major problems of the car. Overall- There inexpensive for a reason, dont forget that.

I recently bought a 2001 Hyundai Sonata with the 4-cyl engine...and I couldn't be happier. It's not perfect; the engine accelerates a little loudly and the disc/drum brake combo is not the strongest. But I'm not taking this this car to Daytona, just to work and back. And for sheer value, it would be hard to beat even without that killer warranty of theirs. The warranty makes it a no-brainer. I chose the 4-banger for financial reasons; I may get the V-6 next time, depending on fuel prices.

I agree with Astrol. If those people who had rated the Hyundai Sonata actually driven it, I'm sure they would have given it a higher score. I have driven several different sports sedans, and I would give the Sonata the "highest bang for the buck" award. It has it all - quickness, handling, styling, and safety. One test drive and I knew I had to buy this car. I chose the GLS model with the V-6, as the 4 cylinder made a little too much noise. If I had a choice between a BMW, Lexus, Infiniti, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Saturn, or Hyundai, and money was not important, of course I would go for the BMW or Lexus. But since it is, the Saturn or the Hyundai would be the top on my list, and when you add the 100,000 mile warranty, hands down I would take the Hyundai. I drive over a 100 miles a day, and I love doing it in the comfort of my Hyundai.

The very fact that there are no comments listed for this vehicle after 29 so-called ratings were entered before mine speaks volumes for the complete lack of credibility of these raters. I seriously doubt a single one has even sat in, let alone driven, the new Sonata. I own two Sonatas---a '95 base and a '00 GLS. The new Sonata is the best midsize sedan you can buy today. Of course it is just a coincidence that Sonata sales have risen over 250% since the re-design in '99. Surely there couldn't be any other reason. If truthful information and opinion is what people are seeking, they would do well to disbelieve everything except their own impressions when they visit the dealer of choice. Hyundai says it best "Driving is Believing".
