Highlander

I loved the first one... the ones that came after :: sighs :: Why can't they leave well enough alone?

I thought this was an excellent "sleeper" film. A bit low-budget, it has an interesting story and plenty of rollicking action. The sequels were a big let down though.

A compelling and wonderful story of violence, destiny and love, well produced and acted. So good that money hungry producers had to spoil it with ridiculous sequels. But no matter what, the first one was good and should not be judged by the screw up of what came after.

Real cheesy fun. . .contains some of the worst dialogue (sp?) I can remember: "Are you going to turn off the tape recorder or shoot me with the .45?" Watch as men try to kill each other with swords with Queen blaring in the background. . .give me 80's or give me death. . .

All right, I admit that this entire series stinks up the place, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for MacLeod, the Highlander. I suppose my sympathy for the real Highlanders gives me a bias!

An instant classic-too bad the sequils sucked!

A well done movie that didn't need a sequel. Clancy Brown deserved an oscar for his work as the bad guy. That scene in the church is too funny. Nuns....no sense of humor.

There can be only one! And with that.... another head rolls! A great movie and the sequels never lived up to it. Lambert at his best, Connery as good as ever working from a tough script that some may find hard to follow. The movie follows McLeod from his days in Scotland through to the '80's, with a lot of flashbacks and some brutal fight scenes. I know they tried to justify the sequels by saying more immortals were sent from outer-space, but I could never really put that in place. This is the one, and There can be only one

Off-beat, well acted and scripted. Rather fun, with some very strong scenes. The opening sequence is particularly good.

As you might be able to tell by now, I'm a bit of a sci-fi fan. Yet again, this is another film that I grew up with and still love. This film has a very good sense of humour and is very sharp. It starts off in present day (mid 1980's) and then goes through the centuries with the main character Conner McCleod. Originally from the Scottish Highlands and banished due to being labelled as being in league with Lucifer as he did not die in battle when he should have done. Eventually Sean Connery's character comes into play and tells Conner that he is immortal and teaches him the skills he needs to know for The Gathering. You have fantastic lines such as 'You overdressed Haggis' All the immortlas must fight eachother (using swords of course) The only way they can be killed is by having their head chopped off and the victor gets its opponents power and strength. This movie sucks. Christopher Lambert is not a good actor and Sean Connery must have been needing some quick cash to star in this junk. I know this has a huge following, but I'm still trying to figure out why.

It's a kind of ma-gic! Absolutely fab. "Highlander" was one of the only real quality fantasies I've ever seen. With a fantastic soundtrack written by Queen (aka "A Kind of Magic") and a well-thought plot, I enjoyed the film from beginning to end. I recommend it to everyone, and no, it's not just because of the soundtrack. Although the songs "One Year of Love" and "Hammer to Fall" are two of my favorites. The story of an immortal Scotsman, complete with a few cool special effects, gets a five-star automatic. Take care, everyone!
