KitchenAid Superba Series 1

We just moved into a house, and though we were lucky to have the KitchenAid appliances, but the ill name Superba ( should be crapola) dishwasher has not worked.
1) You have to frequently reset it, the previous owners had written the codes down on the instructions manual.
2) The soap dispenser only works part of the time - great energy efficiency
3) It doesn't seem to dry the dishes
4) When its all working - the dishes still come out dirty

We have given up and are getting it replaced, with anything except KitchenAid or Whirpool.

my KA Superba dishwasher is a piece of junk.
Kitchen Aid does not seem to care. they know there are problems with the control
panel, the buttons come off and expose the inner workings to water and more damage.
these are costly repairs $400 plus labor, for an already expensive dishwasher that cleans
the dishes poorly to begin with.
please join my facebook page if you are interested in venting your dissatisfaction to a wider
audience.
Lord knows Kitchen Aid is not standing behind it's products, maybe some bad press will wake
them up. who knows.

I have a vintage Superba KDS16 dishwasher (by Hobart). It came with the house we bought and I have resisted upgrading.
It is at least 40 yrs old and I'm in the middle of repairing the lower rack.
Never had any other issues.
Love the big chrome buttons and "Party" settings

I Can't believe that my 8 YEAR OLD Kitchen Aid Superba Refrigerator Model KSRG22FKWH01 Side By Side is now being hauled out to the curb!! EXTREMELY Poor QUALITY. Here's what you DON'T SEE when you look at the outside - The compressor has three pins that stick out for electrical connections. The mating connector is a PLASTIC molded piece with the metal electrical connectors that mate with the compressor electrical connections inside. This piece is wire-tied onto a bracket on the compressor. The once white plastic piece is now charred and crumbling from only 8 years of use. The wire tie has MELTED from the heat that was generated. This could have caused a fire in my house. DO YOU WANT THIS KIND OF QUALITY IN YOUR HOUSE? Take into consideration the spoiled food in the freezer when this refrigerator quit working.
Why does Kitchen Aid risk quality and their reputation as a "once" quality manufacturer to cut corners and manufacture something in this way. Therer should definitely be a recall for this reason before someone does have a fire in their home as a result of their poor design and products. NO MORE KITCHEN AID OF ANY KIND FOR ME.

KitchenAid Superba Series 1

When building my new house fours years ago, I upgraded all of my kitchen appliances with Kitchen Aid Superba models- a big costly mistake. All of the appliances are stainless steel, and all of them have broken at some point in time since purchasing them. The ice maker on the side-by-side refrigerator broke twice. The first time just 13 months after purchase-one month past the mfg.'s warranty. Neither Lowe's nor KitchenAid would make good on the repairs. The same ice maker broker again two years later. More expenses on my part. Then the plastic handle on the microwave broke. The cost of getting this repair was ridiculous. The part was over $34 dollar plus service call costs projected over $90. I used super glue. Now the dishwasher pump has broken. The machine started making really wild, high rev noises about two weeks ago. I pulled off the front kick plate, and low and behold, I had myself an indoor lake under the dishwasher on the the hardwood flooring. I again went to Lowe's to complain, and they told me I should have purchased the extended warranty! I have had three different dishwashers in other houses. All lasted more than seven years each, and with kids, we ran these machines everyday. None of them were KitchenAid products. Do yourself a favor. Do not waste your money on any KtichenAid product of any type. All of them are overpriced junk that never really worked as expected. Even when the dishwasher was working, I had to virtually clean every dish before loading the machine. I even brought out an independent repairman who is approved to work on KitchenAid products. He had me superheat the water first. Still the same poor results. The repairman even told me that these KitchenAid products are noted for their short live spans and that they are one of the leading brands with major problems.

TERRIBLE STUFF!!! We also bought a new house. New Kitchen Aid Superba stainless steel appliances. "WOW" we thought. The dishwasher hasn't never and I do mean NEVER properly cleaned the dishes. if they aren't almost completely cleaned (scraped of ALL food, rinsed almost completely clean) before you put them in, they won't come out clean. Even with all that, lately there is a residue on everything that comes out of it. The door support has broken TWICE. When the first one broke I watched him repair it, so I could do it myself int he future, I keep an extra on hand. The racks are falling apart. It's ONLY 6 years old. The first dishwasher I ever had was a 20 year old GE, it cleaned everything perfectly. I miss that DW. I also have the Kitchen Aid Superba fridge. I have to be VERY careful where I put my produce in it. NOT in the drawers because it will freeze in the drawers. I have a thermometer in the fridge it says 38, but it's so much colder in the drawers I don't know why. AND the motor lately make this grinding on off on off all the time noise, like someone gunning an engine. Again, only 6 years old. I have a 35 year old freezer in my basement. It's quieter than the fridge. Stay away from Kitchen Aid appliances.

Kitchen Aid is nothing but dressed up Junk! I bought a house that was only a year old with stainless Kitchen Aid appliances. They seemed nice, so I left my wonderful Viking appliances behind. What a mistake! Our oven is on the blink again and we are waiting for the tech to receive the part. Last time we went 7 weeks with no oven. This time it has been 4 weeks and we're still waiting. The kick is, we only moved in July! Both times it has been the same issue...I turned on the self-clean (not even for the whole amount of time) and it would not work afterwards. I never would have guessed that it would do it again. So, now here it is very close to Christmas and no oven! I called Kitchen-Aid today after reading about others having the same issue on the internet. Their response was "well if those are the only complaints out of all the ones we sell, then we obviously have a good product." What a Joke of a Company! They obviously don't care if they are selling LEMONS for a hefty price! Did I mention that we have already replaced the Dishwasher?

I bought a Kitchenaid Superbra and it's junk. I paid a lot of money for the thing one of the elements went just after it went out of warranty. Then the control panel went and when I called Kitchenaid, they said it is cheaper to replace the stove than to fix it. I'll NEVER buy Kitchenaid again.

LOL....you guys make me giggle. first of all...no one told u to spend 6k on KA appliances. 2nd of all yes, oven are supposed to get hot..but um would you be more pissed off if instead of locking up it got hot enough to burn up and catch ur house on fire? 3rd of all, your not the only on having issues with an appliance so yes those technicians are busy responding to other peoples complaints. either wait your turn or find another tech.

and finally-- let me say something about dishwashers, wine coolers, icemakers-- THEY ARE LUXURY APPLIANCES. i dont have any of those and im survivng. i was my dishes by hand everyday. i put my wine in my refrige, and i make ice in an ice tray.

obviously you all are too self absorbed to understand this luxury, you clearly would not make it one day being truly poor bc heaven forbid u wash ur own damn dishes.

i dont have enough money for that crap and to honest ith u even if i did i wouldnt buy any of it at all...of any brand. i find it makes you lazy and your work ethic very poor.

theb economy is bad enough as it is so save your money by doing things your damn self.

We did a complete kitchen remodel and unfortunately bought all matching Kitchenaid Superba appliances. Here is what spending $6k on this garbage will get you.

Refrigerator: The icemaker quits about 6 months after purchase. A&E; Factory Service repairs it under warranty. The service man has one on the truck and tells me it is a very common problem. So much so he keeps about 4 on his truck at all times. My warranty expires in about 6 months and I let him sell me a extended warranty for $139.64 for 3 years. Thank god. The ice maker is replaced 5 more times. Each of those repairs would have cost me $384.21 It suddenly stopped getting cold and a relay was replaced after everything spoiled inside it. Now it is out of warranty and it no longer dispenses ice. It makes ice fine but you can no longer fill your glass from the door.

Gas Stove: Main control board failed at about 4 months and fixed under warranty. Same thing again at 11 months. The stove light works sometimes and sometimes it does not. We hardly ever broil anything yet it went bad just out of warranty.

Dishwasher: Control board failed at about 5 months and fixed under warranty. The door hinges broke at about 7 months and fixed under warranty. The door hinges break again just out of warranty. When it was newer it was very quiet, now it is very loud.

Microwave: I have to say, knock on wood, this has worked great. Very powerfull all functions work great. Of course I expected this from a $1400.00 microwave.

I am 51 years old and I rank this as one of my worst purchases ever. This stuff is just poorly made junk.

My KitchenAid dishwasher didn't last 3 years. The motor went out and it would cost more to fix than to buy another one. Prior to the final breakdown, I had to have it repaired at least once a year. It replaced a dishwasher that was still running after 15 years. I'll never buy another KithenAid dishwasher again!!!!

From a repairman
If your going to buy high end appliances, ALWAYS have extended warrantees as long as you plan on keeping them. I work mostly on Kitchenaid and yes they break down alot. Fancy breaks, simple lasts. The fewer the touch buttons, the less control boards, the happier you will be.

We had a kitchenAid Superba stove. The stove tuned on high all by itself. Whirlpool told us that we should know that the switches need replace just like your brakes on your car need replaced. They said there is nothing wrong with a stove turning on high all by itself and that it is perfectly safe.

I totally agree with saxify, the exact same thing happened to us. We bought Kitchenaid stainless steel dishwasher, stove, fridge and microwave a little over 2 years ago. The icemaker in the fridge broke after a little over a year, flooded our kitchen twice, the dishwasher just quits every few month all togehter, luckily I was able to find out online with other people who had the same problem with their dishwasher, how to fix it myself. It still quits every few month. The convection oven fan rattles loud when we turn it of and yesterday, the microwave started to make a loud noice and smoke came out of it..... Never again, because these "top of the line" appliances are expensive too.

KitchenAid Superba KUDS01FLSS6

We bought this dishwasher, along with a stove, microwave/range hood combo, front-load washer & dryer, all from KitchenAid. So far, in just over 2 years, we've had a totaly of 15 service calls.

These were ALL top-of-the-line appliances, or at least we thought they were. However, 2008 has brought to us a number of appliance problems. The dishwasher, however, has been a real joy.

It stopped, mid-cycle. Absolutely dead. We wait, no dishwasher, for 4 days until the repairman arrives. Yup, what they suspected, it was the thermo-fuse in the door, at a cost of $110. However, it can die on it's own, or it can happen because another component is failing, we are told. No way to know, it'll either keep working, or it won't. And while he's here, he points out that repairing the cracked plastic over the buttons is going to cost upward of $300. Not including service calls, of course.

The repairs happened on Tuesday. Tonight, Friday, there was a loud noise from the dishwasher door, and now there is no "spring" - the door just drops.

Add in the previous repairs for the control panel, seals, etc, and you have a piece of junk.

KitchenAid used to be known for their reputation as quality appliances. Not any more. Just more junk - very, very expensive junk.

WARNING - DO NOT BUY KITCHENAID APPLIANCES!!!

We bought one of the high end KitchenAid dishwashers in 2002. It performed well in the cleaning category, but it lasted exactly 3 years, required 3 service calls, was down for a total of 6 weeks and I finally took a cash settlement from our 3rd party extended warranty company to let them walk away from it. When we replaced it in June 2005, I could not get a Bosch with the necessary dimensions and features I needed. Consumer Reports and others rated the KitchenAid highly and few complaints appeared around the web. We bought a new Superba dishwasher for $1,400 including the extended warranty. Guess What... 18 months old and the electronics have totally failed. To add insult to injury we have been without it for 16 days now and they can't get the parts due to backorder in manufacturing. Right now the ETA for the parts places the dishwasher out of service for over one month with probable repair around January 2nd or 3rd (yes, we have to live through the holidays without a dishwasher, and my demands to KitchenAid to replace the unit fall on deaf ears. Their poor quality and poor parts availability, and poor service commitment has repeated four different times on two appliances for us. We are done purchasing any KitchenAid appliances. Warning: KitchenAid builds unreliable appliances and refuses to provide its customers with reasonable quality service!

I will never buy another KitchenAid large appliance. Paid top dollar for the KitchenAid Superba range and it has been a lemon from day one. The control panel has been replaced 4 times, KitchenAid would not replace the whole stove despite repeated requests. Can't use the two top front burners at the same time or the entire stove shuts down for 30 minutes or more. Real handy during the holidays. To prove how stupid I am, I let the salesman talk me into buying a top of the line KitchenAid dishwasher when I really wanted the Bosch. Guess what, the dishwasher has been a lemon since day one. The soap compartments don't open during the wash cycles about 50% of the time so you have to run it again, very energy efficient. I hate KitchenAid appliances and will never, repeat never, buy another one.

I have had my Superba dishwasher for a few years now. The very day after the warranty expired the thing has had nothing but problems. It does not clean well. The baskets fell apart. The seals have given way so water gushes out like it does not even have a door and it will not stop filling up with water. And, KitchenAid does not care. They just want you to buy a new machine. I will not buy a Kitchenaid again.

We bought this dishwasher for our new house. It looks nice but we can't keep the thing from breaking down. The service techs have been out to our house three times in 9 months. The service techs that are sent out can't keep an appointment and have been almost as frustrating as the dishwasher. I suggest you keep looking for another brand. Stay away from Kitchenaid.

Notice how all the new ones are poorly rated, post about 2000? (They're now really Whirlpools!) So sad -- my 2005 KUDKO1IL base-model KitchenAid dishwasher cleans terribly. It's somewhat quiet, but often leaves specks and grit left items and sometimes even light soil stays on the dishes. My circa 1997 base-model Kitchenaid cleaned absolutely beautifully and only had one repair. It was a REAL KitchenAid made with an American-made motor/pump from Hobart. Apparently since Whirlpool took over KA a few years ago and stopped using Hobart as a supplier, they totally ruined the machines. They are now simply rebranded Whirlpools/Kenmores! The pump/motor/filter system is now absolutely identical amongst the three brands. All the K-A name now gets you is a stainless tub, more sound insulation, slightly different racks and a better parts warranty. More $ does not = a better wash mechanism, alas. I feel so stupid as I only recently discovered this sad situation how KA is basically dead as a manufacturer. -- had I known last year I may have bought something else. (Whirlpool TRICKS people because they still slap in the traditional 4-vane KA wash arm that disguizes the pump guard at the bottom of the machine -- but look closely and you will see Kenmores/Whirlpools are identical, but with two-vane wash arms.) Sears has been out four times and just replaced my wash motor/filter/pump module. The new replacement part from KA/Whirlpool has a Korean-made motor bolted into it. The original one they took out of the machine was almost identical looking except that motor supplier was from China. Now the machine is louder than before. I'm going to claim it as a lemon and see if I can just have it replaced by Sears for a new one. Jesus couldn't KA have been left the way it was! Whirlpool just gobbled up Maytag a few months ago. I hope they don't ruin their machines as well!

I have had the dishwasher for 6 years and between my wife and I have run it once a week. We have had many problems with this dishwasher and the service company. We had to call Kithenaid several times to get them to give us the code to reset the machine. We finally had to call the service rep who was a real joke: $125 to walk in the door and he then tells us he has to replace the circuit board at $325. The warranty for the circit board was 90 days and it was broke again in 4 months. I called the Whirpool rep and told him that I was an architect and that our national firm is designing/constructing 60,000 new housing units thru out the US and that i would not recommend using the Kithenaid/ Whirpool brand of dishwasher. He had no response???

When we bought our five-year-old house here in Canada less than a year ago we were thrilled to find that the kitchen came with stainless steel appliances by KitchenAid. That thrill certainly didn't last long. First, we found that one of the stove elements, the large one at the front of the ceramic cooktop, didn't and still doesn't work properly. We haven't even looked into the cost of repair. Then the side-by-side fridge quit and we had to wait three weeks for the part to fix it ourselves. Finally, the control panel on the dishwasher fell off because the plastic "wells" for the screws in the plastic liner of the control panel had all broken. Yet, that wasn't the worse part by any means. The parts shop where we had purchased the part for the fridge told us that KitchenAid does not sell just the plastic liner as a separate part. We would have to buy the entire control panel at a cost of $568.84 (Canadian)! And that cost does not include installation or tax. We could buy a new dishwasher - not KitchenAid, of course - for that. Needless to say, we are telling everyone we know not to buy KitchenAid.

I've had this piece of junk for 5 years and have had over 10 service calls over the past 3 years. We have replaced the control panel and computer panel 3 times each. Luckily we had a service plan, so the approx. $900 in parts spent on it was covered. The really irratating thing was the way the service plan works. Kitchenaid will only "replace" a dishwasher if the service company says it is unrepairable. The service company (A&E; in this case) could always fix it, for a few months anyway, so they wouldn't declare it unrepairable. (To boot, it takes 2-3 calls each time the thing breaks, one to diagnose, and 1-2 to order/install parts.) In the end, the dishwasher got caught in a permanent "on" stage, and was very hot by the time I noticed it. This is a total lemon, and I have been very dissatisfied with both the product, Kitchenaid's response, and A&E;'s service.

We thought we had endless problems with our Kitchenaid Superba dishwasher almost immediately after it was installed. Many technicians would come out, pull it out of its seating, run it through its cycles successfully, shove it back in it seating and tell us there is nothing wrong with it, then charge us $60. Some even pretended they had to reset the board etc. When we fill it and run it after they leave, it again does not work. We only just discovered, by ourselves, that the water inlet hose, though steel, has twisted (rolled) tension on it and twists itself into a narrowing or completely closed when the machine is pushed back into its seating! Problem solved. Do you think we should demand our money back?

Kitchenaid is not what it used to be! Neither their product or service compares with their once held quality reputation. Our stainless Kitchenaid Superba is a piece of junk. Broken latch, cracking control panel , electronic panel replaced twice. Notwithstanding the wobbly trays (which do not have a wide enough row to hold a standard glass), we had to replace the interior control panel within the first three years, now Sears wants another $400 to replace it again, exactly three years later. The exterior plastic cover is cracking and warping, the serviceman pointed out the cheap plastic molded inserts which hold the interior panel screws to the interior electronic control box are broken(two of five ). His solution was super glue. This cheap, cheap design then allows the interior door facing to separate from the exerior/plastic control panel, allowing moisture to permeate the electronics. Inside, all electonics are on two panels. A failure of a 2 buck diode requires replacement of 100 other electronics on the same printed circuit board...all of which oringinally reduced product cost, but compromised quality and increases repair costs. Of course it is not Sears fault(although they got another 65 bucks out of me)Kitchenaid is an uninterested party. After declining service, with the conclusion that it is necessary to replace the whole unit(the $800 dishwasher + $500 in service costs)after a short 6 years. This in contrast to the older machines which served my parents for 15 or more years. In my previous home, I purchased a new superba with none of these problems. I think these electronic units vs. the manual button style are lemons. I will never buy Kitchenaid again, they don't stand by their product or have no service and they make junk. The serviceman's last words were buy a Maytag next time! Buyer beware!

This brand is simply a re-labelled Whirlpool. It's no big deal ! And like all dishwashers, the design is totally stupid: opening a drawer into your knees while being bent over is the work of the same bastards who designed oil dipsticks on cars - they never have to do it themselves. Americans are idiots to accept lousy design. I vote for table top dish washers like schools use - Hobarts ! You load dishes, rinse with a sprayer, load in the box on rollers, and turn on the nuclear reactor. 10 seconds later everything's clean, radioactive, and ready to go. Why Susy Homemaker is dumb enough to use these stupid under the counter things I dont know. My next kithen will look like a Ford plant - to hell with Martha Stewart and Architecturla Digest. Why should a kitchen be charming? It's a factory, for God's sake! Cuisinart, my ass. You ever try to clean one of those things - it's like doing heart surgery. America, wake up ! You are confusing looks with function. It's like thong bikinis - look great but don't do a damn thing. For that matter, why the hell are we putting everything in the dishwasher anyhow ? You have people eating at your house with TB? You really think the dishes are sterile after running in Betty Crocker spray bins. Come on...hot water and soap are the same in your sink as in the pretty silver box with all those stupid buttons. (By the way, can you read 10 point type labels printed in black on black plastic from 6 feet away! Only midgets with 20/20 can!) The buttons are designed by the same prune brains who do the buttons of car radios and stereos - so subtle nobody can read them. One more thing: I have repaired my Kitchenaid appliances more than three different cars I've owned in 3 years. Last one to die was ice maker - I wrote to head office and got free service. Machine died 2 days after warrantee ended - repairs would have cost $1100 for a machine that retails for $800 !

KitchenAid Superba Series 5

Does a great job cleaning, very quiet, and lots of room to load dishes, pots, large bowls.

KitchenAid Superba Series 4

My parents have this dishwasher and it does a good job on pots and pans and is really quiet. It doesn't do as good of a job on items like wine glasses which come out spotted.
