Dillard's return policy is the worst in the retail market. Their credit card does not allow you to set up auto pay - that can only be set up from your end at your bank. Another stupid non-customer focused approach. Their prices are easily 15-30% higher than the Kohl's right next door. This company deserves to go out of business.

I almost did not order from Dilliard's because of these reviews. I am glad that I took a chance! They were having a sale on things that I wanted and they were the cheapest price anywhere online. I place the order on Friday and just received them the following Thursday. It was shipped Fed Ex. Everything was there. I could not be more pleased!!! We do not have a Dilliard's around us and have never been in the actual store but I will DEFINITELY be shopping with them online again.

Just close this place. Dillard's Short Pump is toxic. Sales staff follows customers, sales staff argue with eachother over customers (must be commision), and if that were not enought of a pleasant experience, ARMED police officers are patroling the store. I can't think of any scenario where guns are necessary in ladies underwear department. I've seen "what appear to be" nice normal shoppers chased by police. Stay away - the philosophy of management must be crazy and it's a recipe for disaster for any normal shopper. Spend you're money elsewhere.

I have been working for Dillard's in Independence Missouri. I have also been in retail formany years and have worked for several companies to compare to. I have never seen a worse company that does not care about their employees or their customers. The training is minimal and consists of NO customer service focus. Employees are graded solely on their Sales Per Hour worked = SPH. They are pressured daily to make their sales numbers at any costs to other employees or customers. They are also pushed to open Dillard's credit accounts to anyone. Even if they are not of legal age to apply, which is age 21. I have seen employees get rewarded for taking a credit app from 16 year olds. When pointed out that the customer was only 16 no one cares. Tolerated practices include lying, pushing, shoving, throwing things, temper tantrums and overall bad behavior all in front of the customer. This is acceptable if the individual is selling goods. This is why as a customer you may often feel unimportant... Read more

I am so glad I didn't read these reviews of Dillard's before placing my online order. My daughter is getting married next Spring, and I have been looking everywhere for a platinum/pewter mother of the bride dress. After hours of searching online and at boutiques, I found the PERFECT dress at Dillard's online. I paid only $150 for the dress and was delivered within a week. The dress is very well made, it fit perfectly, I have tried on dresses of well over $400 and this dress could sell easily for $300, I couldn't bring myself to pay that much for a dress that I would only wear for one day. My daughter LOVES the dress, can't wait for her big day!!! Thank you Dillard's.

I would give them zero stars if I could. I ordered a Clinique item this week in order to get the free bonus gift. They had ads all over their site saying it was Bonus Time! Received my order in the mail today, but no bonus. I called them and they said, "Oh, we've been out of that for some time now!" I told them no one would know that since they had the ads plastered all over the place. They should have taken the ads down or explained at checkout that they were sold out of it!! I called and they very generously (insert sarcasm here) offered to waive the $6.95 return fee! I was so incensed. I decided to keep the item because I'm sure they'd charge me the fee anyway, plus I have to pay return postage. The woman on the phone was very nice, but their deceptive practices and outrageous return policy guarantee that I will never order from them again. I wish I'd read the reviews here before ordering from them in the first place!

Recently stopped in dillards and accused of shoplifting. I had made several purchases at different registers and tried on clothes in dressing room and accidently put one of the blouses I tried on in the paid pile. The sales associate that was helping me knew what I brought into the dressing room and I said I would take all of it. On my way out of the store I was stopped and interrogated by four people calling me names. I am elderly and ill and said I had obviously made a mistake putting the item in the wrong pile as I was in a hurry as I was feeling ill. They had all my receipts including a receipt for a purchase that they had neglected to put in my bag. I asked to call my family or my doctor as I am terminally ill. I was laughed at and humiliated. I was then put in handcuffs and arrested. No one would help me or listen to me. It seemed like some sort of game with them. The charges were dropped by the state but beware of Dillards, no mistakes ever with them. Any normal sto... Read more

This store is simply HORRIBLE. At least the one in the Florida Mall. For example, this afternoon we saw a voung man that was stealing something (and that's ABSOLUTELY WRONG, but we are not sure if he was really stealing), but he was young and not armed, but the security of that store grabbed him with all his power and threw him in the middle of the road, hurting him, and we were going to go over him with our car because we didn't see them!!! Even though maybe he was stealing (we don't know if and what he stole), who do they think they are to try to kill somebody just for a stupid thing??? We were mad, so we went inside that stupid store and we asked the manager why they used such violence, and they answered "We can do ANYTHING to retrieve our stolen things, by law..." What????? Our question is, if somebody steals here, he/she can be violently hit or even killed?? Or we have to call the sheriff, and let them take care of the situation??? Anybody can help me understand? And the worst ... Read more

When I was child in North Carolina, Dillard's was Ivey's. It was a wonderful place. My mother and I could spend the day shopping amongst the beautiful clothes. In those days it was a real department store and you could get china and curtains and some furniture. I was thinking of that today as I spent two hours looking for a short sleeved blouse suitable to wear under a navy suit for a jury trial I have next week. There wasn't a blouse, short sleeved or otherwise, in the place. There wasn't a suit suitable for a courtroom in the place. For some reason they dropped Austin Reed which was the last classic maker they carried. When I asked the salesgirl for help she pointed to a rack of see through chiffon thin t shirts with tie dye faces on them. Yeah, I am going to prosecute a gang leader for murder wearing the top his girlfriend wears to court. While I was in the store, I couldn't get pantyhose because they only have control top in my size. There weren't any navy shoes at all, unless you... Read more

I ordered three items from Dillards online. Two were acceptable but the third, a $58.00 jacket was cheap and not true to size. I contacted Dillards to return and hearing nothing went on my vacation and then contacted them again upon my return and was told that the return policy was 30 days from the date of the ORDER so they would not take this item back. I will never order from Dillards again. Cheap products and very nasty return policy.

Dillard's is the worst store ever. I will only go to Nordstrom's from now on. If they don't have it, it isn't worth buying. I purchased the LASH ALLURE MD product on a two for one special. I needed to give the product at least 60 days to work, and it did not. Dillard's will only return within 30 days, so they sent me to the Lash Allure company directly. I have emailed these folks, so we'll see what they say. In the meantime, do not waste your money on this product, or shop at Dillard's - only if you want to throw money away. Dillard's customer service is terrible.

I put an order in online and it took way longer than expected. Also one of the items was supposed to be a woman's watch. They were selling it as a woman's only watch when it was a uni-sex watch so the watch head was way too large for me. They still made me pay the $7 to return the watch. They explained that it was still a woman's watch and I informed them that there is a difference between specs when it comes to a woman's watch and then a uni-sex watch. Whatever, either way, I will NEVER get anything from them again.

Don't buy anything from this company online. First my package was supposed to be here in just a couple of days, then I get an e-mail saying its on back order and who knows how long its going to be. Then I call and cancel the order only they don't actually cancel because they're incompetent. I still get charged and have to call back again and figure out what is going on and it takes almost a week just to get my money back because they screwed up.

for christmas i got some shoddy gifts from dillards so i returned them and got a 110 dollar dillards gift card. i thought this was a pretty sweet deal but what would i buy with it? i remembered that i needed a blowdryer. dillards has 2 blowdryers, the chi for around 110.00, and the conair for 59.99. i bought the conair. afterwards i looked up the conair to see what other people said about the product and saw the suggested retail price on conair.com was only 30.99. it should be illegal to mark prices up that much on your merchandise.

I am horrified by the Dillards at Short Pump in Richmond, VA. On several occassions while I am shopping with my 18 and 20 yr old daughters, uniformed security have followed us throughout the store. It's apparent to me that these security personnel are of limited intelligence and simply target the younger shopper assuming they are stealing. Additionally, I do not understand why the entire sales staff is Russian. It's disturbing when a sales individual follows a shopper muttering something (I assume offering help) in their native language. I have complained to customer service about their unsophisticated security and they don't care. I've not been in the store in a year and would prefer to shop were I am not harrassed. Nordstroms is in the same mall and I happily give them my money.

Yesterday was my last day and I couldn't have been happier. I was employed by Dillards for two months and I have to say it was the worst two months of my life. Everyday when I walked into that old nasty mold ridden building I wanted to cry! They opened a new counter there and was hired on as the Counter Manager from my excellent reputaion I have earned. They said they were built on family values, that is, if your family is dysfunctional, and classified as white trash. They knew the second I clocked in and proceeded to harrass me about the sales, without giving me a chance to put down my sickening clear bag! The way management openly embarrassed me in front of the whole store in the morning meetings made me fear what they would say about me the next meeting! After about a month there and their constant harrassment, I started to get anxiety attacks!!!! The emails I (and other employees) would get were both threatening and wrong! I don't believe this is a positive motivation for ... Read more

Dear LiquidSilver, Most people cannot just quit their jobs, they have bills to pay, children to feed, etc. It is extremely naive of you to think that someone can just leave a job anytime they want and find another one at a moments notice. Did you ever think that people have benefits that they would lose? What if they are very sick and know that they will get denied from another insurance company. In this economy we don't have the benefit of just quitting a job because we are unhappy. People are unhappy at Dillards because they work hard and are treated poorly. I have to stay there because I have an apartment to pay for. I have gone from $10.50 an hour to $8.50 an hour because I cannot make my sph. Not because I don't try. It doesn't matter that we are in a recession, it doesn't matter that they never have sales. I am 100% responsible for all the sales in my department - that's a little much to put on someone's shoulders. If there aren't enough customers, I'm told that I have to creat... Read more

For recent college graduates, I would only recommend this job to those unable to find work. I have a lot of regrets choosing this company and not taking my other offers that were available upon graduating. The hours, pay, and no job security. I worked about 9-10 hour days unless there was a visit, then it was around 12-14 hour work week (you have visits once a month). I HAD to give up my days off for weeks that we had a visit. You RARELY get back to back days off, which isn't to bad, but it hard to make plans when you are off like Monday and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays when all the rest of the world is off on Saturdays and Sundays. I was treated terrible by my assistant and store manager, but I know the stress they are going through because they are getting yelled at constantly. You are in charge of and evaluated on sells for your area. How are you supposed to increase sales if the advertising department cant bring people into the store? My mom was just fired from the Oak Park store. She started with Dillard's 20 years ago and was more dedicated than I thought she should be. Over those 20 years I have told her that the management there was terrible. It doesn't seem like anyone there has ever taken even a "how to deal with employees" class. The employees are just a number. You don't get any support or caring from the owners or management. It is ALL about the bottom line to them it seems. So with the shoppers down in this time, my mom's numbers were not where they thought they should have been. So they fired her. No fan fare. No thank you for devoting 20 years of your life to us. Nothing! I will never set foot in there again. Jeff

My first shopping experience with Dillard's has been somewhat of a mixed bag. I decided to purchase some items recently because they were having a big sale online . . . I was mostly happy with the item selection, but it was very annoying when (numerous times) an item would show up as in stock but then immediately thereafter I'd see a message instructing me to the remove the item from my cart as it was not available after all. Their online ordering process is a bit odd as well. I shop online all the time at macy's, bluefly, sephora, saks, bloomingdales, neiman marcus, etc—so I'm no stranger to the way these things usually work. Upon placing my order, I tried to view it in my order history and it didn't show up. I also didn't receive any email confirmation. At least an hour went by and there was still no sign that I'd actually placed an order. Now, I admit that in retrospect I probably should have called customer service before placing a new order but it was late and I was worried the i... Read more

HORRIBLE!!! (DILLARDS OAK PARK MALL-KS). I'm a pretty laid back person and understand things happen, so after my first less than pleasant experience returning a defective/discolored shirt, I blew it off and continued to shop there thinking it was an isolated incident. When building our house and looking for new furniture, had my 2nd awful experience dealing with an exceptionally rude, un-informed and crass sales associate in the furnishings dept. Today however was MY 3RD AND FINAL BAD EXPERIENCE--I WILL NOT SHOP HERE ANY LONGER! While shopping for swimsuits (my purchase was nearly $600 btw--on swimsuits alone!) I encountered Lisa who became very abrasive with me regarding the # of swimsuits that were allowed to be taken into a changing room. Seriously?! Another associate of hers had misinformed me of the number of articles that was allowed in a room--Lisa came by and corrected her. Fine, no problem. Doesn't matter to me. I worked for Dillards for 18 years on the distribution side of the business. I was recently "laid off" because they closed my department in the distribution center. They decided they couldn't absorb myself and my two assistant mgrs. I was the only manager with a college degree, I guess that intimidated them. They made myself and all of my employees sign a waiver stating that we would never attempt to work for Dillard's again in exchange for severence pay. Only eight weeks of pay if you worked there at least ten years. What a weird thing to make you sign. I have had to try and explain it to possible future employers during interviews, and they don't get it -- neither do I.

I worked at the Dillards in Independence Missouri a few years back and after reading all these reviews it brought back some terrible memories of my time there. I was hired to work in the Juniors department after leaving Khols as a manager ( I wanted less hours). I was hired the same day as three other people who were also placed in the same department. They explained the SPH idea with me but assured me that the goal of $120.00 an hour sales were obtainable. They set my open availability to 9:30-5:30 Monday through Friday. My main job duty was not to sell but to do mark downs and floor moves while my scant customers wondered off with the merchandise and purchased them with the older sales ladies in Tommy who had nothing better to do but to wonder around the floor bothering customers in other departments. One day I noticed I had a high number of returns. Shocked I went to management and asked them what it could be and that same week I lost a dollar an hour. Later I found out th... Read more

I give this company a one rating (if there was the option for a zero or a negative one I would have given it). I've never been with a company that was so completely focused on profit. This company treats their employees like scum. Making people work for SPH is despicable. It turns co-worker against co-worker. Trying to make over $100/hr in the children's department on a Monday morning is a joke. I was one of the top three sellers in my department yet I never used the sly moves that some of the older employees used. I was kind to my fellow co-workers and respectful to my customers. I wasn't one of the "lazy" employees who stood at the register and rung up whoever came their way. There were plenty of those people who were employed there. Also, the kind of people they hired were pretty questionable. I really think that the turnover was so high they would hire anyone who would apply. First of all, to Liquidsilver.. I agree with Anonomousme2, that was very ignorant!!  Some people will temporarily work at Dillard's WHILE they are searching for new jobs, but unfortunately have to stay until then.  You cannot just pick up and find a new job in one day.   Dillard's will hire anyone, and it unprofessionally reflects in their turnaround time.Dillard's will hire just about anyone at a higher pay than other "dime a dozen" retail stores, (but mind you the higher pay is very very temporary.  They conivingly steer you away from that truth during the entire hiring process).  Because of that fact, it is sometimes people's last resort, as they are desperate for a job.  Once they get hired on to Dillard's, it is all they can do to ever so painfully work for the crappy, corrupt company while they are trying to raise a family, go to school and look for another job.So Liquidsilver.. lay off and go post elsewhere. When I quit ten months ago (the Ogden Utah store)  it was the best thing... To all the employees of Dillards who are complaining, all I can say is this: If the job really was THAT bad, then you would leave. Most Dillards are connected to malls and retail jobs are a dime a dozen. I suggest when you get off work one day, you apply for a job two doors down in the mall. To those who hated Dillards and left the job, what strikes me as odd is how long you stayed before you left. Again, if it was THAT terrible, you would have left in the first month. Someone went as far to say they would rather "shake their A$" then keep working at Dillard's -- well, why arn't you then? And yes, I have worked at Dillards before in case you are wondering.

I have shopped at Dillard's since my mom took me as a kid. When I was 18 and away at college, I had made a Dillard's purchase at South Park Mall in Lubbock, TX. After leaving the store, I was accused of shoplifting. When the the two security guards searched my belongings and purchases and found nothing, not only did they refuse to apologize or give me their names, but told me that they knew I had stolen, they just couldn't find what I had taken and where I had put it. I was wearing shorts, flip flops, and a t-shirt - where did they think I had put these supposed stolen items? When I called the manager to complain, his initial response was that there was no one on their security team matching my description, and that I was making up stories. When I explained what had happened, his ONLY response was 'Please shop again!' No apology from him either. I understand that people make mistakes, and if someone had just said 'I'm sorry' for falsely accusing me of shoplifting, I would have ... Read more

i tried to order the kitchenade 5 qt mixer for the $199 price Dillards was offering on google and when i called customer service I was told the price was really $299. AS you can see in previous comments, Dillards has a habit of advertising their merchandise for cheaper to bait a customer then tells them the price is much higher. This definately will be reported to the Better Business Bureau! The manager told the associate that they don't price match and this discrepancy was not their fault. I will never shop at Dillards!

I think the shopping experience for the customer coming to Dillard's is very favorable. It's only if you work there that the problems begin. The SPH is not fair, especially in these economic times, and it causes a lot of problems between assocites fighting for that sale. All the talk that I hear is negative amongst associates and the fear of either not having a job to go to the next day or getting their pay cut is a direct result of having to make their quota. As any of you know that have worked for Dillard's for some time now, the "new recruits" have no idea of what is in store for them. I have worked retail for years and I have never in my life seen such behavior and intolerance from employees. It's time Dillard's changed!!

Will NEVER shop there again. They had advertised a KitchenAid Artisan mixer for real cheap. I ordered it, and the order went through just fine. I even got a confirmation number. A week later, I got an email saying the item is out of stock. I emailed them back and complained that they had plenty of KitchenAid mixers in stock as they were still advertised online but at a higher price. If they were out of stock, why wasn't that indicated on the site? They emailed me back some mumbo-jumbo that the ones that were lower priced were out of stock, but the ones at the normal selling price were in stock. This makes no sense whatsoever as it's the same mixer! I got tired of dealing with their idiocy and vowed to never shop there again. It's not worth the headache and apparently, the prices they advertise online are just a bait and switch method.

I am currently employed at Dillard's and overall enjoy my job. Retail is not for everyone, and it seems people want to bash Dillard's for what is standard in the retail industry. Working a couple nights a week, most weekends and yes...holidays. But if you want to make your sales, you have to be willing to work when people shop. If you want to make a pay increase instead of a pay cut then you have to go after business not just stand around and complain because there are no customers. They have an excellant clientele system and those that utilize it make their own customers and client base. This is an upscale department store and that is what the customers expect. If you can't or don't want to provide it then you will fail here. The retail industry is struggling and if you are a good salesperson then you will find the pay scale to be above average compared to other retailers. I agree there are some bad managers at Dillard's but there are bad managers everywhere. The grass is no... Read more

I want to know why we are charged SPH (sales-per-hour) before and after actual selling hours! Our sales should start right when we open and stop at closing...but it doesn't work that way. Can't get an answer from the store I work in!! Imagine that!!!!

Dillard's is a putrefying self-made, shameful and  indecorous company.    They believe they are indestructible???  The College-Station, Texas store is so filled with "Villainous activity" that they should be held accountable.  This violent, repetitive  offender exhibits another elements of her criminal behavior during an offense.  She goes beyond the actions necessary to  perpetrate her attacks.  It must be a unique and integral part of her behavior while she is committing the offense to us.  Redface, Rages, Shouting, Sweating, Stinking of her disgusting Vomit.  No more,  No more,  No more.  Peace will come to our beloved and beautiful College-Station , Post-Oak Mall Store. Thank You

I never have worked for Dillards, but I have to say that I have shopped the Colorado Springs Dillards in the past and could clearly see the disgruntled employees. (If I could find one at all.) I have been snubbed by some that I could find. After reading these comments I wonder if they were just so unhappy in thier jobs that they didn't care. I don't blame them! I can understand not feeling dedicated to a company that treats their employees so badly. It rolls downhill to treatment of the customers. I ordered one BCBG blouse online and after 4 weeks of no receipt, I called the number and they didn't even have record of my order. Even after I gave them my confirmation number. No apologies, just "nope, I don't show that order." So I told them to cancel it and went to the store. I asked the sales woman there what section the BCBG was in, she told me they no longer carried it. I continued looking around on my own and found the exact blouse I was trying to purchase and paid for it at th... Read more
