Well let me tell you this,Ive had this DSL for about 3 years now,Ive been ussualy using it for Gaming and more , And it has been AWESOME...My ping would never go high or i would lag , but my upload speed was horrible! I would upload at 13/16K ...And download 100-180k...But its been slowin down for me for abour 2 weeks and im switching to adelphia cable , It just came in my area so i think ill give it a try.So if i were you i would get DSL if you live in a neighbor where theres alot of Teenagers and stuff so you have your own line , because if to many users is on a cable it will lag.

No problem with my dsl with pacbell/sbc/yahoo. Its fast, easy installation, I think I waited a week for the equipment, thats it. I dont know about the customer service cause I never had to call.

After using adelphia cable/modem service for 6 months, and comparing it to my sbc dsl connection. The Cable BLOWS dsl away. First cable is ON all the time. No connection manager/crap/stuff you should not need. Even the Explorer browser is to slow... So I've just used faster browsers. also DSL is a little pricy, but worth it. since dial-up is worthless.

Apparently PacBell (or SBC) has recently joined forces with Yahoo for their DSL offering, and let me tell you, that was the best move they could have ever made. After struggling with Earthlink for a year and not being able to get my DSL from them running I switched to PacBell and it's been such a breeze!!!! I am SO impressed! The installation kit was beyond DSL for dummies: it was SO userfriendly and easy! Their tech support also showed an improvement. Within a couple of ours we were up and running on DSL - I even set up my wireless LAN of it and I'm loving it. Today, I would definitely recommend SBC/Yahoo (formerly Pacific Bell DSL).

When Pacific Bell controlled its DSL service it ranked about 4 stars with me. Since SBC took over, one star is too many. Now that SBC and Yahoo have merged its worse than ever. Not only is Tech Support the worst I have ever encountered but now SBC is forcing its customers to add Yahoo programs whether you want it or not. What is worse is once the software is downloaded you can't get rid of it entirely. But the breaking point for me was when I found spyware on my computer from the SBC Yahoo software. I have cancelled service with SBC and moving on to another provider.

All broadband providers are horrible, especially DSL providers. Everyone (particularly PacBell) jumped on the DSL bandwagon in the hopes of making mountains of money on a product that was believed to be an "easy" sell. When that did not happen, everyone who was unfortunate enough to buy PacBell's flavor of DSL was severely disappointed as evidenced by the stories told here. PacBell is lucky it can provide voice communications nevermind data comms as well. If you are looking for DSL then stay far **far** away from PacBell. Get cable if it is available to you but **never** even consider buying DSL from Pacific Bell. They suck at every product they "provide" with the exception -of course- of billing for services real or imagined. That is something PacBell does outstandingly well.

Customer Service for ALL services, i.e., cable TV, phone, credit cards, unemployment insurance, etc. -- should have customer service help on the Web so that one does not have to be put on HOLD for long periods and be forced to wait and wait while listening to annoying music and voices advertising one thing or another. I would think it would be much easier for companies to help customers via e-mail than all the hassle of phone calls.

Pacific Bell did it again! It ripped me off by $400, and still made me wait for 10 hours in the phone, provided NO service, and treated me badly! Beware consumers!

Pacific Bell had some initial problems when they first began to offer DSL. The demand far exceeded their capacity to provide service. They have gotten their act together and Pacific Bell DSL service is great! I called and ordered dynamic DSL service. I received a commit date that was only five working days away. I have never had a minute of trouble with my Pacific Bell DSL. It is fast and inexpensive. The best thing is that you don't slow down during peak periods like cable modem subscribers do. I would prefer a static IP address, but Pacific Bell offers dynamic IP DSL service that is hard to beat.

Why PacBell even claims it is in the DSL business is beyond me. I couldn't get tech support after 5; I waited up to 45 minutes to get connected with someone who couldn't answer my question and then was routed through 3 more people--none who could answer a question. After 2 weeks of spending more than 30 hours holding or getting non-answers, I gave up. Finally, they told me they would gladly check my line for $150--a service, by the way, that's free with other DSL companies. I can't say enough about the terrible service. Obviously, they don't care about competition in my area.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like you have much of a choice when it comes to getting DSL service. But, my company has had many problems with Pac Bell. First, the first available appt. for installation was over a month after we called. Then, the technician who was supposed to install our service left without completing it because of a mix-up with the dedicated # for the line. Next, we made an appt. for them to come another day (which was about a week later) and then when we called that day, they had no record of the call. Needless to say, we still don't have DSL service. UPDATE: That was about seven months ago and we have had pretty good service since then. The one time that we did have a problem, we had a tech guy out here within a week and it turned out it was a problem on our end with how we had IP addresses configured. I guess the message is if you can get through the initial headache, DSL is definitely worth it.

I have Pac Bell DSL at home and we've already had to reset it a couple of times in a five month span. It's very nice though; downloading is very fast.

I have had horrific luck with PacBell (and their dynamic IPs). Months of problems at the central office delayed my service from working for 3 months. Also, I spent innumerable hours waiting to get through on the phone.

Slow during peak outages. Frequent downtimes. Customer service horrible. Good deal for the amount you pay.

Pacbell gives one of the cheapest services right now, but it takes too long to get the service, and the main server is down all the time. Pacbell needs to increase its serving capacity before it makes its next advertisement.

DSL is definitely fast, however, there server is always going down, and there are too many difficulties and not enough custom service to help you out in a hurry.

It was easy to set up. Very fast connection. Very little, if any slowdown. A little expensive, but not compared to other DSL lines. You'll never go back to dial up after DSL.

It is definitely nice to have all five computers in the house online at the same time, but the speed doesn't seem that much faster without buying the look network cord. With that cord though, it is very fast. Periodically it needs to be restarted or goes on the fritz.

Contacting Pacific Bell to order DSL was a tedious process. It took over two months and several calls before they came to install DSL. Service though is almost excellent. High speed connection is generally maintained except for short disruptions of minutes to hours.

Wow. Nobody can seem to deliver DSL. Check this out - a technician was supposed to come to my office today to install DSL (already 8 days late). As of 2:30PM there was no sign of them, so I called PacBell, who of course had no record of any scheduled appointment. The agent then disconnected me, and I spent about 20 minutes (unsuccessfully) trying to get back in touch with her. I then called the DSL support line where I was put on hold for approximately 35 minutes. After thirty five minutes I was forwarded to a voicemail box due to the "unexpectedly large volume of traffic." I was asked to leave my contact information so that someone could get back in touch with me. Then i was told by the recording that the voicemail box was in fact, full, and that I could not leave a message. Are you kidding me? Maybe PacBell should spend a few of their dollars that they are blowing on their ad blitz towards customer service.
