Incessant braying from Julia Roberts. . . Worse, it started a mini-trend early in this decade given the never-mentioned-in-public-name "Erin Brokovich" syndrome - a woman in the office who thought by braying constantly she was important and therefore worthy of undeserved attention.

The film opens with an interview of a young woman. "Look." She leaves disappointed, and her car is hit when someone drives through a red light. The testimony in court doesn't go well; inappropriate language for this young mother may prejudice the jury. [Unfair, but that is life.] She applies for jobs over the phone. No experience? Erin gets a job at that law firm. She meets the new neighbors. Does she have problems at work? Erin learns why there are medical records in a real estate file. The Jensen family has medical problems. Chromium is involved, it can be deadly. There is a factory a few hundred yards away. Erin searches the records at the water board and finds evidence of pollution. Was she a beauty queen? [Looks aren't everything, manners count.] Lawyer Ed Masry drops by for information. Erin gets even more information. Did PG&E; pay for that doctor? The illnesses of the Jensen family can be explained by exposure to chromium hexavalent-6. "Wow!". Former neighbors of the Jensen'... Read more

Erin Brockovich with Julia Roberts is a film about a woman who stands her ground against all odds, as the divorced single mother who works as a clerk for Ed Masry, an attorney played by Albert Finney and they join forces to champion clients that are wronged by a powerful corporation. Erin takes on the case against this corporation that is spoiling the environment with toxic substances, not only poisoning the water supply of a town in California, but also responsible for the illness and death of many residents. Erin is a woman who has lived through hardship, so she is able to relate to those suffering. She earns the trust of these clients, as they tell her all about their condition. Soon, we see Erin gaining ground against corporate greed and secrecy as she uncovers the details necessary to win a court case against the company that, while not returning individual claimants to health, at least they gain the financial strength necessary to withstand the consequences of exposure to t... This is the best movie starting Julia Robert I've ever seen so far (2008). It's engaging, disturbing and touching. It deeply moved me seeing Julia struggling to raise her kids by herself and doing a good job at work. It vividly potrayed the cruelty of the corporate which knew their waste was killing people. But they arrograntly denied it. Julia's acting is superb. The fact that this film is based on a true story does increase its entertaining value.

A very over rated movie. I looked forward to seeing this movie, I'd heard so much about it and saw the real E.B. interviewed and Julia Roberts, I was really looking forward to seeing it. I was very disappointed. I thought though the story was true, it basically had been done before and it was very predictable. As for Erin crying because she missed her baby saying it's first word ... get over it, it doesn't matter what work you're doing unless your kid is super glued to your side you're going to miss something, esp. any of us working mums.

"True story" or not, if I never see another movie demonizing big business it will be too soon. Please, for the love of God, can I have ONE film where the businessman is not the devil? Please? Anyway, on to "Erin Brockovich". This is without question the best performance I've ever seen from Julia Roberts, but I'm grading on the curve. Her portrayal of Erin Brockovich includes constant potty mouth and an overload of sassy attitude, combined with an extensive wardrobe of slutty attire. Unfortunately, the movie allows for this character to triumph even though she insists on behaving like an uncouth, hypocritical, self-absorbed bigmouth who can't finish a sentence without cursing. The basic story involves a small rural town in California in which a large number of citizens have contracted life-threatening illnesses from contaminated water, and the class action suit they file against the evil Pacific Gas and Electric. Erin comes across questionable documents in a file she is processing for ... Read more

I can't believe people actually liked this god awful movie. A real lawyer wouldn't let some piece of trailer trash that dresses like she's a friggin' prostitute yell profanity in their face. But I guess if you flash some cleavage you can get whatever your tiny heart desires.

This movie is in my top 10 greatest movies of all time. I loved the drama this movie had ! The ending made me feel great, too. Erin is definately someone to look up to in this world. There are so few like her left anymore. This movie was also the first movie made by Julia Roberts that was good. I never thought that day would come.

It was a pretty good, captivating, compelling drama. As Wiggum said, a David and Goliath type of movie. I thought that Julia Roberts gave one of her best performances yet as Erin Brockovich. She was both serious and cocky at the same time, and it was a nice change to see her take on such a role. This movie is definately worth watching at least once if you like legal dramas or Julia Roberts.

This movie had a good concept but I wasn't crazy about it. I always enjoy a good true story - if it's done well. I think this one could've been a lot better. The critics liked it but I still think it could've been more compelling, like some of the latter Grisham movies like the Rainmaker. Julia Roberts in my opinion just doesn't cut it as a big-mouthed down-on-her-luck woman from the wrong side of the tracks, bordering on white-trash, with a big old chip on her shoulder. I think she only won the Oscar because it was a dignified and, well, rather solemn story. Julia Roberts has a loud mouth but she failed to bring any down-to-earthness or working-class charm to her character, I think because in real life she possesses neither one.

good movie with Julia Roberts. based on the true story of Erin Brockovich an assistant to an attorney who helped win a multi million dollar law suit against an electric company. that had been poisoning a whole town with the water. Very intersting movie. Kind of nice to see someone who was an "underdog" become a success.

Okay, I admit I'm biased as a single mom of three kids who would like to think that someone like me could do something so amazing. But really, she was just working hard and stumbled upon something that, even if I were her, few could turn their back on. I liked this movie for some of the more subtle scenes that depict the heartache of a mother who must work to keep food on the table. The best scene was when she was in her car coming back from Hinkley late at night and heard about her baby's first word. Julia Roberts acted in that scene as any other mom whose heart was broken over missing such an important moment would. I cried with her. I tell any single person that doesn't seem to "get" what it is like for me to watch this movie. Those that took my advice come back and say that they had no idea what true juggling was. I don't agree with her outspoken way of behaving sometimes, but in all she is to be admired.

Erin Brockovich is an adaptation of a real story. For those people who know about the real case, it's a pretty good adaptation. Believe it or not, the movie is tamer than the truth. Yes, the real EB dresses like a whore. Not the way Julia Roberts dressed in the movie, but 10 times more revealing and she's open about it. Yes, the real EB has a gutter mouth. That's the way she talks and she's open about it. And when you're talking about this movie, don't forget the marvelous job that Albert Finney did as the crotchety Ed Masry. Unless you're predisposed to hate Julia Roberts, it's a must see.

Erin Brockovich took home the academy award for best actress, Julia Roberts. You may be good in some films, and I kind of found out a bit over the top in your role here. The movie was a bit slow at times, and Julia went over the hill with her role.

Erin Brockovich would definately be on my top ten list of great movies. I feel it deserves a much higher placement on this RateItALllist because not only was it a riveting, interesting, timely film circling on an important issue, it was based on a true story and landmark legal case! And if any of you reading think I only really like it so much because I'm a big Julia Roberts fan, think again because I was one of the very few people who hated Pretty Woman. Actually I didn't think Roberts was good in any of her many films, except maybe Sleeping With the Enemy. - But in Erin Brockovich, Roberts really amazed me! She not only performed the part flawlessly, but she just seemed to belong to the story. She was one with the story and the spirit of the story. Julia Roberts deserved her Academy Award for this film.

I couldn't agree more with the comment of "Eb.b5644om". This is a very manupulative film with laughable scripts and false emotions, worst of all Julie Robert is most annoying ever! Obviously, this is the usual Robert's ugling duckling "comedy" sugar coated in dramatic form since it claimed itself adapted from the true story. Many people thus thought they have seen a great dramatic film. I cannot believe its popularity and critical acclaims except from Roger Ebert (check out his comment). The bad langauge is unbelievable. I doubt the real Erin could get a job in a law firm with this degree of foul mouth, rude attitude and prostitute-worn wardrobes, let alone insult the lawyers made completely idiots in the film. Remember films based on true story do not always have the right details or even story lines!

I saw this on video a couple of weeks ago and it was exactly what I had expected. It was a good story (I knew the ending because of so many specials on the story on Entertainment tonight). It was an interesting story. Julia did a good job portraying the real Erin. It is just a perfect rent a movie.

Just saw this movie the other night on video...I too was glad I only paid the rental cost and had not paid the full shot at the theater. The movie was okay...even without knowing the case it was very predictable and had a too typical "Julia Roberts' happy ending.

Good is the just the right way to describe this movie. It isn't great, but it's better than average. Critics said a lot of nice things about this movie, but I resisted seeing it because the previews just looked boring. Yeah, some assistant in a law office uncovers a big PG&E; toxic waste cover-up and helps initiate a huge lawsuit, OK, I get it... And that's pretty much the movie. But Julia Roberts does a really impressive job as Erin, her character is interesting, and it's a nice change of pace to see a true-life David and Goliath story. All in all a worthwhile rental, but I'm glad I didn't shell out $10 to see this in the theater.
