This is my favorite car... not only because of the way it looks or drives but because of how LITTLE problems I had when I was driving it. I had this car for two years and the only thing I had to do was change the oil. I cannot say the same for some of the other cars I've had. It was really a dream car!I wouldn't recommend it for Canadian winters though. The low body sometimes made it difficult to drive through some of the high levels of snow we often get after a snowfall. I once got stuck on the highway after a HUGE snowstorm in Montreal and had to get towed out. The rear wheel drive probably didn't help the matter. Aside from that, this is hands down the best car I've owned and I plan on getting another as soon as possible. I would recommend it to anyone!

I think the new one is pretty attractive, and I've gotten to ride in one (thanks imykey :P) so I know they're fun. As a cheap and sporty car I think the Mustang wins.

Great car. I have had them off and on since the 1960's.

Not a big sports car fan but the mustang has been a good one over the years though it did go through a slump for a few years.
numbah16tdhaha 03/28/2008
Ah, the Mustang is back after a couple decades of being REALLY UGLY.

OK, Let me say this... I am a 50 year old partner in a Washington DC law firm. I have traveled more than most of you and driven litterally hundreds of diffent cars. Some were company cars, rental cars, dealer loaner cars, girlfriends cars, wifes (3 of them) cars etc. I own a couple of very nice luxury cars, heck- my kids car is nicer than what most people drive. But yes, I am a little ashamed to admit, ha ha , that I own an old V8 302 Mustang. It has a few hundred thousand miles on it and once in a while I start it up late at night and take it out for a spin. It reminds me of my youth or something. It has been dropped two inches, it has all Cobra parts underneath and a supercharger that gives me 500 "HORSEPOWER".. I am the original owner. Go ahead call me a hick -what ever, I listen to people talking garbage for a living, so I am used to it. The car is fun.. It looks bone stock and could use a paint job, but if you come near me and "rev" the engine of your Acura I will leave you dazed and confused.

have you ever heard an engine like that ? Yes, I know... this is not good for our planet...
Astromike 08/09/2007
I think the newer Mustangs SUCK compared to the older styles. Today they appear to be mostly girl's cars (no offense lol). They just come across as CHEAP. They have smaller engines now too (not like the old 5.0's) and not a tough looking, and lack the muscle car appeal it once had. Take in mind I'm refering to the basic mustang.
Vudija 09/14/2006
Depends on the year. The newer ones are cheaply made, in my opinion. My uncle owns a tow business and I've noticed they sustain a good amount of damage, even in the most minor of accidents. If I'm going for a Mustang, I want a late 60's model. They weren't made of cheap parts and they're easier on the eyes. You have to love a classic...

I love mustangs!!!
jc60 01/03/2006
Nice styling, weak engines, if you want a nice stang u have to pay around 40 -45k for a saleen, rousch or the cobra not worth it they all still have the wimpy 4.6, the 5.0's were great engines drove one decent accelaeration, mediocore handling, so-so body quality,. In my opinion ever since i think it was 86-87 when both stangs and maros had 5.0's GM put TPI ( Tuned Port Injection-quite possibly the best type of fuel injection yet) in the maros-fbirds- I think that gave it 65 horse more than reular 5.0 but anyway thats when maros-fbirds got better than stangs buy credit to ford they lasted longer than the GM's. Overall okbut today they are a disgrace to old ones which would get 4-5 stars.
dc75 12/31/2005
I like them alot but then again if you compare them to their competeitors their really nothing special, even cars that aren't sports cars have better acceleration than some stangs. Back to the point about the competitors, when they dropped the 4.6 and dicontinued the 5.0, that was the end of real mustangs, the 4.6 is ok don't get me wrong but compare it to the 5.7 dropped in the maros, that made stangs look sissy. One thing about the mustangs today that is good is that they are a pretty decent value and was one of Car and Drivers 10 Best. The thing that I don't like most about stangs is that people think their something that they really aren't, what i'm trying to say is that the common person who knows nothing about cars but they think they do know something about 'em think mustangs kick ass, they think they are "hands down the fastest cars on the road" that is not true. To sum everything up, their good cars but they certainly are overrated.

Never owned one, but drove many. The first was a black 1965 260 small block V8 three speed pony car with a center tunnel shifter. It was great fun and simple. You could really throw it through the turns and when it, as always, broke loose, get it back easily on those bias ply tires used back then. Then came the 1970 army green 302 four speed. This remains my favorite all-time body style even today. The louvers were great and it was all around fun to drive. The 1971 got too big and sloppy. Then came the Charley's Angel's years which, well, enough said? Finally Ford woke up and built the modern Mustang. Unbelievably the 2000 through 2004 were the best built cars in America (Yep, check the stats) with a great power plant and good handling. They were also the most expensive cars to own in total cost per mile ("And that's a bad thing", Martha Stewart). The truth is that they have evolved from the early practicality of an economy car to expensive and impractical toys for a small market segment who feel compelled to drive machines that exude testosterone type images and project unsubstantiated masculinity. They are, however, fast and fun if you like those things. Personally, I have always preferred the small four cylinder types that can pass up service stations more than twice a week. So the next time you're out there plowing down a country road in your Ford Mustang, look in the rear view mirror, it could be me you see sitting behind the wheel of my Focus SVT, bored at the slow pace and anxiously waiting for you to hit the highway and finally pull away at 10 to 15 miles per gallon!
minkey 10/08/2005
The new Mustang 5.0 really has some juice. V-8. I released the clutch slowly and hit the gas and it jumped out there.
lwyr2b 02/16/2005
I don't know what the obsession is in here with chevy and pontiac. These companies have no idea how to make a sports car anymore. Yet Ford has always kept a little of that muscle quality in the Mustang. The new Trans Am and Camaro models are meant to look like a bullet but the Camaro has ended up looking more like a sedan than a prime sports car. The mustang however has kept its bulky muscle look while everyone else has gone streamlined, probably why the Mustang was, is and laways will be the worlds best selling sports car.
eeP 09/12/2004
if you skip about 30 years in its history, it's 5-star.
WildKard51 06/18/2004
My family has a 87 Mustang GT 5.0, and it still runs great and has huge amounts of power despite having 130,000 miles on it. It is a testimant to Ford's worksmanship that the only thing wrong with it is the air conditioning, despite being driven cross country and having been kept in 3 different states, 2 of which are desert states. That Mustang is a true muscle car. It is from a time when Mustangs were something really special, something that came in limited quantites and that could dominate the competition. Now, however, anyone can pick up a V-6 mockup of the real thing. Don't get me wrong, availability is a great thing, BUT.....shouldn't such an American icon be different and harder to get? So that when you see one on the road you dont have to squint to see if its the real-deal GT or SVT or just another one of those barely-a-mustang, run-of-the-mill, V-6 Mustangs. Thats just the way I feel about it. But, because of the fact that the Mustang has been around for a while, and the fact that the good models can actually stir up some trouble on track day, I gave it an OK 3 stars.

I love Mustangs. THis isn't the best, but it's really nice!

V6 is slow. Handles nicely. Poor quality and workmanship of interior. Nice looking.

dickgozinya 06/24/2003
I had a nice Cherry red 1998 Mustang with a six and that was actually a pretty fast car. It rode smooth and I really didn't have any severe probs till when I sold it at about 89,000 miles. I kinda miss it.

The 2003 Ford Mustangs fu*cking kick ass they are one car i love and want
sharpshooter 05/31/2003
to hell with mustangs, i lost respect for them once they did away with the 5.0's. a ws6 trans am or a camaro ss would blow the doors off of a mustang gt and damn near the much more expensive cobra r. although i will admit that the cobra r is a beautiful machine, for the money 390hp is kind of a rip-off
kahfess 05/14/2003
I have seen more of these cars needing repair than perhaps any other car. Even as I type this (and I know it’s probably going to be baulked at) but even as I type this a friend of mine has two mustangs that are not drivable because of various mechanical reasons that need repairing. I would not buy one of these cars.
JKooks 05/05/2003
With the exception of tuned Mustangs such as those offered by Roush, Saleen, and Steeda, I'm really not wild about the newer models. But being in a family that at one time owned not one, but two Shelby GT500 fastbacks (dad had a '69 and my grandfather had a '68 KR), I will say that the Mustang is the quintessential muscle car.
03GTVERT 04/24/2003
For everyone who thinks the Mustang is a worthless waste of gas, you should probably think twice. Mustangs and Camaros will always be American Muscle, but the one that stands the longest can be called the King. The Mustang pushed the camaro out. I dont care what you say about why the camaro is no longer being made. The only reason is because the Mustang is better. Camaro cant compete, even though things were neck and neck. But the Mustang just came out on top. Just face it and accept it, Mustangs are better than camaros. Yea there may be alot of Mustangs out there, but you know if you took all the v-6's off the road, there would be alot less, alot. Just because they dont have alot of power doesnt mean they are worthless. They are made for certain people, the v-6's are for people who either cant afford the v-8's, or who want something stylish and good on gas. the v-8's are for those who want power. And looks, who said the Mustang looks like every other car on the road. You should prolly go to the Doctor and get your head surgically removed from your rectum. The camaro looks like a damn cheese wedge. No body lines, how plain, granted it may be aero dynamic, but the Mustang is too, and it looks better. This is so because it actually has body lines. Unique body lines. No other car looks like it. And who said Mustangs are for hicks...the last time i checked the only thing hicks drive are jacked up trucks that can run over the camaro or Mustang. Im not hating the hicks because i have friends that are hicks, and they would disagree with you also. And attitude, there is no attitude with the Mustang people. We just dont like little micro machines coming up beside us acting all big and bad. Yea you may go faster, but look at the thousands of dollars you spend to be able to do that. And just for the record i have never lost to a import, and i only push the throttle half way. Also, Mustang or Camaro fans, we may fight about who is best, but we are the American Muscle and we should carry on the heritage. The Camaro died, but im sure a new born camaro will emerge, and the full heritage will carry on.Mustang#1 ;)
tmcmulli 04/12/2003
I had a '98 Cobra, and it was the worst car I ever owned. Great fun in a straight line, but the dealers couldn't fix anything that ever happened to the car, like developing a grind in first gear with 19,000 miles on it. The car was never right, and Ford couldn't have cared less about fixing the car. This year's Cobra is temping with 385hp, but I know the company isn't behind the car, damn shame.
pip_squeak 03/31/2003
The Rustang surely is the LAST of its class. It probably won't be too long before it gets the axe too. Boy, it sure feels great to see all those Eclipses, Celicas, RSX's, S2000's, Miatas and 350z's out on the road!
BIGBABY 03/31/2003
The Ford Mustang is the last of its class. Comparing a Mustang to a import Japanese is probably the dumbest thing Ive seen. This a REAL sports car, unlike those 90hp VTEC engines. The Camaro was better, but its been canceled so the Mustange is in a class by itself. The V6 isn't that great, I'd go for the V8. If you have the money, Anaconda and SVT models are the best buys, with as much as 350hp. Lost a star for average reliability, but its not terrible like everyone thinks.
Solenoid DH 03/31/2003
I'm only rating this so high because of what the Mustangs were like many years ago. When I was in college, I had a girlfriend who owned a marroon '65 Mustang. It was already several years old by that time. I got to drive it real often, and it was fantastic - lots of energy, low gas mileage - I'd love to have one just like it today. In fact, that car turned out to be far more reliable and trustworthy than the girlfriend was.
stangfetish5 03/12/2003
can u say "sweet car"? the ford mustang is the best bang for your buck sports car. the mustang is the original pony car. all you chevy owners out there that think your chevy is better...well your wrong..u need to open your eyes and check out the 2003 mustang cobra. its the best mustang yet, and it beat the camero SS. so eat that. and dont give me that BS about how the mustang has a supercharger because the camero used to have 50ci over the mustang so its all good. and if the camero was so good then how come they stoped making it?!! yeah thought so. and even when they did make it the mustang outsold it by far. (i think it was 3 to 1 but im not sure)
race_driver 01/13/2003
Come on..we all know Ford quality sucks. Check consumer reports or JD power quality ratings. The Mustang is cheap power in a low tech car with a really cheap interior, just like the Camaro was. Usually you see teenage kids and thugs driving around in Mustangs, it's not just the import drivers.
alfachimp 11/27/2002
When I had my '96 Cobra I would prey on the big buck snobbies in the Lexus' and BMW's. They just couldn't keep with it. ONe guy got really mad that I smoked him in a FORD. Haha
