Converting acid rock to disco was almost an insult.

A snapshot of the Summer of Love, the idealism and excess of the hippies, the rigidness of the rich, the terror of war. One of the most enduring things about this film is the way it portrays how the freedom from social ethics of the hippies brings joy and passion, but also has a shadow side. Also, the lyrics push limits even by todays standards and the vocal parts and harmonys are still some of the best today.

The music is great in the musical. Compared to the live show, the story at the end is flipped a bit, but it is beautfully done in the film. It deals with war, which is very relevant to us right now. Break out that pipe, wipe off the dust and watch Hair.

I can't decide if its the movie that I like, or just the song.

I agree with Ruby that this movie is dated -- but to me, that's what makes it worth watching. "Hair" is very much a movie of its time and a couple of hours with the movie is like a brief trip in a time machine.

Milos Forman directed this musical that was made and released at the wrong time (1979). It would have probably been a blockbuster if it were made during the time the film depicts. But it's still a great movie, and a fun musical. The performances are quite good, especially considering the leads (Treat Williams, Beverly D'Angelo, and John Savage) are not known as singers. The choreography by Twyla Tharp fits right in with the feel of the movie. And it's kinda fun to see Charlotte Rae (Mrs. Garrett from "Facts of Life" TV show) and Nell Carter (who belts out a couple of songs) in small cameos.

Not too bad, but too groovy for me, scripts aren't very good either.

As far as I'm concerned, when the '60's/70's ended, so did the appeal of this flakey film and play. Actually having a desire to sit through it now would be like suddenly getting an urge to wear bell bottoms, tie-dyed T shirt, wrap a rag around my head and go around giving the peace sign. It just isn't going to happen.

Hair compared hippies and the wealthy class, and how they lived. The two classes had completely different views on life and war. There was a large contrast between the fancy social gatherings of the wealthy and the carefree living of the hippies (swimming in ponds, crashing higher class parties, etc.). Hair also introduced topics of war, the personal lives of families from the two classes of people, etc. I liked the broad range of issues and the songs incorporated into the movie.

"Hair" is one of my favorite movies. This is possibly because I wish that (or I used to...) I lived in the 60's. The music is great, the acting is great. If you like "trip" interludes this has 2...I think. They get stoned and then later drop acid. And that is fun to watch. I'm not going to give away the ending, but I will say it's a good one.

Perhaps the most dated movie I can think of. Not worth watching.
