Euro-Pro Shark Electric Steam Mop

Bought the Shark about 5 months ago. Worked well, had spotless floors but now it doesn't even release steam. Must be the calcium build up. There's no way of cleaning it without taking it apart. If you get one of these, USE distilled water or it will clog. The instructions say "use plain water". Flimsy design. Good thing I bought it at Costco:-) I'll try the other brand.

I have owned the Shark steam mop for several months and have been pretty satisfied with it's performance. As others have written, it takes quite a bit of "pumping" to get an adequate amount of steam. Many have also written about the flimsy handle that feels like it may break. Well, it happened to me. The metal tube shaft fit's into a plastic mechanism that does the pumping action. This plastic part cracked clean in half while making a normal pass on a ceramic tile floor. I have checked several websites searching for this replacement part, but no luck. I have sent an e-mail directly to the manufacturer requesting how I can obtain this part and await their reply. If the part is not available, I will not purchase another mop. I am fearful of paying another $70 - $90 and have this occur again.

So I bought the steam mop about a month ago on a whim. I had used sponge & traditional mops in the past & my floors were still dirty afterward. After using the steam mop I sprayed a typical house cleaner on the floor & wiped it up and the towel was spotless!! Now, I do clean my floors often so they're never terribly dirty. But I'm always suprised what it picks up and in higher traffic areas I do go over it twice, the second time with a clean pad. But it's still much quicker than traditional mops and the floors dry incredibly quick! It's a keeper for me.

I didn't have high expectations for what was a relatively inexpensive little gadget, and for the most part haven't been pleasantly surprised. If you enjoying ironing shirts with a steam iron, you will enjoy using this device. It has some pluses: it's inexpensive and very lightweight, easy to carry up and down stairs. The cord is nice and long. It also works very quickly. There are no buckets of water to fill, empty and shelp around. It kills dust mites and leaves a nice fresh smell. It does a nice job on wood floors, which are a nuisance to maintain. On the downside, it's good for maintenance, not heavy cleaning. On dirty tile floors, especially those with stuck on food or ground in dirt or mildew, (like in a shower) it will get rid of surface dirt, no more. And it leaves streaks. Brought this home, since it was all Target had and I was tired of hand scrubbing floors but like a clean place. Easy to snap on the two handle pieces, pour in the water and plug it in. However, it was so flimsy I was afraid I would break it just unwrapping the cord AND mine was broken to the point that no steam or even warmth was generated. If it seemed at ALL sturdy, I would have exchanged it but the quality is so poor I believe it will come apart pretty quickly and not stand up to even basic usage so it was returned and I will try the Bissell 1867-7 instead, which I needed to order online since no store in my area seems to have it. If that is similar, it will go back, too, and I will stick with scrubbing by hand when I have time and living with a slightly less spotless floor in between. Life is just too short... :-)

works great, does NOT leave water behind unless someone used 1 of the 2 included pads for a hour.... its a great product.
