Most diseases can be treated by examining the environment around the person. Take Attention Deficit for example. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it is eventually found that it is related to food sensitivities. Producers add a lot of chemical substances to food, some of which people have reactions towards. For some, it isn't as readily evident, but for others, especially growing kids, it can have a real impact. Artificial sweeteners are the worst offenders, along with food dyes. If parents really monitored the food that they are feeding their kids, they might realize that ADHD is caused by a simple allergy or sensitivity to a certain ingredient. Those behavioral issues are a real problem, but it can be managed fairly simply. But big pharma realizes that there is no money to be made by simply telling parents to implement a simple elimination diet for their kids. Yeah, this shit's way over Diagnosed. I think some teachers say kids have it just to make their jobs easier. Last year my oldest son's Kindergarten teacher tried to tell me he has ADD. Apparently, he gets bored easy and prefers to activity to sitting still. I tried to tell her he's 5. I've heard the same complaint from other parents. Now I'm not a Doctor and can't say for certain whether or not somebody has a problem. But neither are teachers. The truth is; he's my kid and Neither one of us can sit still for more than 10 seconds. All this knee-jerk reacting takes away from the People who actually do have this disorder, cause seriously, it must be a Drag.

Oh please! I don't even believe such a medical problem exists. Everyone can have a bit of Adhd if you don't care for a certain subject. I was diagnosed when I was younger, thankfully I never took any medication for it. Growing up I believed I had this "problem" until I got older and just made a decision to pay attention instead of letting my mind wander all over the place. This is certainly psychological, and the cure is to rid your mind crap and just FOCUS on whatever you are doing.

Back when I was a child, they just called you a bad kid, smacked you a good one and went on with life. Frankly, that didn't work much worse than what they do now. In my view, it might have worked better.

Astonishingly over-diagnosed. By the time I made it to college in 2001, about 35% of the people I knew were on adderall. All this so that parents can brag about their kids' grades without helping them learn to study and focus sans hard drugs. In younger patients...otherwise known as the death of childhood:

I do believe there IS such a thing as ADHD. and if they really do have ADHD they should not have to feel embarassed.{ it is not something you do on purpose or ask to have}that said, It seems that if a kid is the slightest bit active or "full of piss and vinegar" he/she is thought to be ADHD. lucky me I live in a state Michigan who has a reputation of putting kids on different meds for ADHD. it seems like most kids who are on these meds do not get put on them until school age. it all starts with a teacher saying they are concerned with your child. "he/ she has a hard time concentrating, they are disrupting the class" have you ever considered having your child tested for ADHD?" if the parent refuses to do what the teacher asks, it gets worse the complaints keep coming in. only now the principal is involved. Look, a squirrel! It is difficult for those afflicted, but I'm not sure it carries the stigma it once did, back when it was referred to simple as hyper, or unruly.

Ooo, look, shiny stuff! The people I know that have this aren't embarrassed by it at all. In fact, they're downright obnoxious, bragging about it. Maybe it's because they can get Ritalin.

I imagine this might be more embarassing for older people, but I think for 20 somethings and younger, it is an issue they've dealt with in schools their whole lives. Its usually pretty easy to spot the kids who are ADHD, and most of them embrace it to some extent. I think for a lot of people, admitting you have ADHD(whether it is properly diagnosed or not) is somewhat of a defense mechanism. Its used as an excuse by some people if they don't perform at a certain level. Therefore it can take a lot of pressure off of them in certain situations.
