Chicago, as an example, has wiped out crime because of tough gun control laws.

I don't like guns, say what you will, but they are not some Multipurpose tool that has many uses other than killing things. Now that I got that out of the way; Guns aren't the real issue, they're just an afterthought. I don't think a statistically huge number of people are saved by owning a Gun anymore than a Statistically huge number of people are killed by guns who wouldn't have been killed by something else anyway. Guns make Killing convenient and easy. That's why People buy them. Whether to protect themselves easily, or to Murder easily. Yes, some people just like shiny things that go "Bang!" but that's not the issue either. America is a developed country with one of the highest murder and crime rates compared to other Developed nations. That is the issue. I think that whenever we find out whatever it is that drives these crimes; poverty, lack of opportunities, heat, early desensitization to violence or whatever, then we can solve these Problems. Until then guns are just going to ... Read more

I agree with background checks. I wouldn't want some repeat sex-offender / violent felon to be able to easily get their hands on a gun (though I know it still happens). I don't agree with limiting the population's ability to obtain weapons, like they do in most other countries where you need to provide valid reason for needing the weapon and have to wait up to 6 months for it. Gun control laws, more often than not, also end up harming the victims of crimes while providing judicial protection against the scum of society. Some states, including PA, don't have the Castle Doctrine in effect. This doctrine allows people to effectively defend themselves and their family using guns and extends the use of guns in self defense outside the home. Without this, one must essentially turn their back to his attacker IN THEIR OWN HOME and try to make a run for it. This of course, only leads to being shot or stabbed in the back, in your own house! This also means that if someone pulls a knife o... Read more

A lot of decent, law abiding citizens being at risk of harm from the thugs while politicians push paper and people look around wondering who's enforcing all these laws while the police are being shot with as much frequency as clowns throwing candy in parades.

The primary effect of "gun control laws" has been a profligation of illegal guns.  The problem is that gun control laws take guns out of the possession of law abiding citizens but not criminals. The cities with the strictest gun laws tend to be the cities with the most gun violence.  Something about the law of unintended consequences.  The fastest growing demographic in the NRA is adult women, and gun laws make it harder for them to arm themselves.  So criminals have pretty much unimpeded access to guns but the people trying to protect themselves from the criminals are impeded. The recent Supreme Court case turns the entire discussion upside down.  We'll be years sorting through the spate of new state laws.

Little effect. Crime is still a major problem in cities where strict gun control laws are in place. Bad guys break laws, what does a gun law mean to them?... Nothing.

The only thing I agree with the Gun Control Law is the pre screening and background check of the owners. Other than that, the Constitution guarantees the right to bear arms.
