I've had some, and I've given some, and I suspect there are few Irish males who can't say the same. "Shillelagh Law" is pretty much a rite of passage for young shanty micks.

But its been a goodly while now since I've given or received, and I'm perfectly happy with that.

It depends on how you got it. If you got it in a fight, you're too old to solve your problems this way (unless you were attacked or defending someone else, that's a different story). If you got it playing sports because you caught an elbow to the eye or something, not a big deal.

It depends. if it was given to you because you deserved it, than you probably wouldn't want it. However, If it was earned the hard way than there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
