I still can't watch this film alone. I remember a while back I did mange to fall asleep in my bed while watching it,my dvd stuck and it went back to the menu at the beginning whilst playing that creepy music (where they are driving up to the cemetary during the opening credits) it had to have been playing for hours while I was asleep over and over again.. But at any rate this is light years more scary than 'halloween' or any other horror movie I can think of off the top of my head. The fact that they listened to the radio during the attacks and were learning slowly what was happening in the real world was scary also. My only complaint was that barbara was utterly useless and really could not act,I know I'm probably being too hard on her afterall she was attacked in the cemetary and watched her brother die.

I thought I just rated this film... Oh well, here I goes again...
Its similarity to an old newsreel is what gives this amazing film the realism that makes it the very best of its genre.
Why anyone bothered to make any more zombie flicks after this classic is known only to the producers' accountants.

Production values may be in the bottom percentile of any movie ever made, but it still manages a compelling power even after all these years.
