After Oscar De La Hoya thoroughly destroyed Genaro Hernandez in 1995, breaking both his spirit and his nose, forcing Hernandez to quit between rounds, Merchant asked De La Hoya (and I'm paraphrasing) "Wouldn't you rather have settled it in the ring? HUH? De la Hoya just stared at him and said, completely confused "But I did" Merchant and everyone else looked confused. This is typical of a Merchant post fight interview.
During the fight he can be frustrating, especially when he begins to pontificate ad nauseum in that confusing manner of his.
