I was recently in Rome for vacation and I have been there before so I knew the drill. I was interested in showing my children the Sistine Chapel for the first time, and having taken a tour before I knew that the Vatican was definitely a place a guide is needed. The first time I went with a company called "Italy with us" and although the guide was nice, I was a little disappointed that it was in half spanish, however it was a last minute decision and was still ok. The second time I went I did some research regarding tours through the Vatican and I found a number of great reviews on trip advisor about a tour guide called Brandi. I soon found her and we booked a tour. She was fantastic! This was totally worth the money! We did a private tour with her and she did not let us down. I would recommend her to anyone. One note: watch the taxi drivers!! They charged us 150 Euros for a ride from the airport to the city, and later I was told it was a flat rate of 40 euros. i was very ... Read more

The Sistine Chapel is stunning, no doubt about it. But I didn't enjoy it at all. In order to check out the chapel, you are forced to walk for like 20 minutes with about 1 million other tourists through the narrow halls of the Vatican museum. Yes it's pretty, and yes there's cool stuff to look at, but the throngs of tourists are so overwhelming that I ended up feeling like a cow on the way to the slaughter. If you really want to see the Sistine Chapel, I'd hit it right when it opens, or right when it's about to close (or in the winter). Otherwise, it's just not worth it.

Words can't describe the absolute breathtaking beauty of the sistine chapel! Rich in history and culture. Very humbling experience. Michaelangelo is absolutely amazing as an artist.

The Vatican is the top place to see in Rome if you ask me. I'm not Catholic but Rafael's paintings in the museum were spectacular and the Chapel was breathtaking- Michaelangelo is the very best. I have a new understanding of art- how many little tricks the painters put in and how they demonstrate their ideas in the paintings. The Basilica was great too. Get there early- that's my advice for everything you want to see in Europe. The lines may seem long but they're nothing compared to the mobs in the afternoon.

Don't race through the Vatican only to reach the Sistine Chapel. The Tours are designed to show you everything else first, so save your energy for the Chapel. Be prepared to get a kink in your neck, but if you have the patience to really look, Michelangelo's art is amazing.

This was my experience: After walking through about 2 miles of Vatican Museum to get there, I was told to shut up and herded into a big tourist barn with a painted ceiling. It was like where they keep tourists for fattening before they get taken to the slaughter house. I think they could have more floor space for more tourists to gawk at the ceiling before rushing into the Vatican gift shop. The paintings were beautiful but the experience ruined my enjoyment of them.

Awe-inspiring. A sculpturer, ordered by the Pope, painted this entire ceiling in four years! Bring a mirror, as looking up will put stress on your neck.

Italy is a country in which you have the opportunity to see beautiful attractions. The Sistine Chapel is one of them. There you can see some of the most wonderful works of art by Michelangelo.
