My favorite bank. After opening and closing accounts in numerous banks I've finally found somebody who is not money greedy scambag :) I can trust my money and be sure that there's no any "surprising" fee for services. Last but not least, friendly staff who know their job and always have a time to answer ur questions

As other people have said Citibank have terrible customer service. You end up waiting for ever to talk to someone in India over very poor internet phone lines and they don't appear to read the notes of previous calls and messages. Our most recent as yet unresolved issue was caused by Citibank sending correspondence to an address that doesn't exist and then locking our account because they got no response. After many calls we got them to change the address back to our actual address but they've still not unlocked the account. They also will not provide details of how to make a complaint which I think is against banking rules. It's just not worth it.

Swindlers, Thieves I had an Checking, Saving, CD, credit cards at citybank for 5 years. 2 years ago they almost became bankrupt like washington mutual etc. And after that citybank became terrible. They changed rules at my all accounts without my permission. As a result my checking become not free, my eSaving interest become in 10 times lower, checking plus credit line became from $1500 to $300 and changed rules about APR, they froze my payment from checking to credit card, as a result late payment fee and APR at credit card became 29.99% (was 8.99%) because they froze payment for few days. At checking I see that payment was made at one date, at credit card statement I see delay in 5 days! Checking and Credit card all from citybank. I lost more then $600, when I call to customer service they did nothing, I paid this money but it was their fault. Last month I paid all my credit cards balance, but in this month I received statement and I own them Interest $118. My balance before statemen... Read more

I am very disappointed in my citi bank card!!!! I applied for a card for my black Friday shopping. I called and activated the card. When I went to walmart.com and made a purchase 30 minutes later it blocked my purchse because it was suspicious. By the time I called and got everything straightened out the items I wanted was no longer available. I am not happy at all!!!!!

Worst of the worst. I've had three accounts with Citi, and all of them horrible... Let me explain. CitiFlex Line - Sounded like a great deal! Use this as your low interest way to consolidate debt into one low monthly payment. That was all fantastic until after six months with this account, Citi decided to discountinue it for "better business decisions." Sure it was a good business decision for them, give you a low introductory rate for six months and then jack it up to 16.9% before they shut the program down. Way be customer friendly. Of course you contact Citi and try to negotiate back to your lower rate and get the line "once the account is closed, everything is frozen". Unbelieveable. CitiFinancial Auto - Another nightmare. Based off their debt records, they shut this one down and distribute to Santander.usa. Who has even heard of this company?! Of course there is nothing you can do on this one either. Citi Plantinum Mastercard - This is when I realized Citi is trouble.... Read more

Citibank is absolutely terrible. In a coincidental event I received a credit card offer for them 3 years ago, right at the time my family pet needed an expensive surgery done. Perfect timing right? I called to get the card activated, while talking to them they kept trying to get me to add the payment protection plan, "It's a free trial for the first month, just cancel it before the end of the trial if you don't like it..." I still didn't want it but they still gave it to me. Alright whatever its free for the first month. I go to cancel it a week prior to the free trials end and I am told by the customer service lady that "It's the holiday season and they don't like to cancel it during this time" i explain to her its a free trial, I don't want to continue with it, I am the account holder if I don't want it you need to take it off. Eventually she hung up with me and I called back several times getting the same results. So I waited until the holiday season was over, yay for 4 months of $2... Read more

Just to keep this short and simple I went to Citibank to cash in a check. I don't have an account with Citibank yet since I just moved to the CA from LA. Since my bank is not located over here I went to Citibank to cash in my payroll check. Was greeted by a nice lady (will not mention her name and business card), but she spent a good 5 mintutes to convince me to open an account with them. It was nice of her to explain why I should open an account with them, but my bank offers the same thing and so does the other banks out there. I finally told her maybe next time that i have to think about it since I am only here for a temp job and not sure how long I will be here. Still she tries to convince me and enough is enough you know gees all I want to do is cash in my check since I have to get back to work. Well she finally goes to cash my check and then comes back saying she cannot cash it. I asked why, and she says all she is getting is an answering machine and no reply. Hello isn't this a ... Citi and I ended our relationship.. Finally It all started off as a great match. I had a large balance of credit card debt and Citi was offering 0.00% APR and low balance transfer fee. So, l said "sure, sounds legit" and transferred my existing balance. For the first 6 months, things seemed to be fine; I was paying off $500 - $1,000 of principal a month and was never late. I work in the financial services industry and my job requires extended traveling when necessary to complete various projects. That said, I began a new project with a flight on Monday mornings in and a flight on Friday nights out. My work-life balance was out of skew for some time while I adjusted to my new routine. One Tuesday morning, I received a call from a Citi representative indicating that I was 1 day late with my payment. I immediately explained my situation at work, deeply apologized, made a $500 payment over the phone, and asked about my 2 day "grace period." I guess that went away... A couple of weeks... Read more

I just got off the phone with Citicards (I have the Platinum Dividend credit card with them) with what I thought would be a horrible call, but turned out quick, easy, and delightful and left me smiling. I was juggling money early this month and had to cut paying the credit card on time close (the day of), and missed the time to pay it (5pm EST), but had an online payment for the next business day and a phone payment as well, paying the statement in full. (Now, I have never paid on the same day/past it and have had the card for around 2 years.) I got charged a late fee and was very upset. I called them tonight at midnight west coast time (I work nights, so my sleep schedule is weird), and a lovely lady answered and I told her I was charged a late fee even though I paid my statement balance in full, and without me even suggesting she take off the late fee, she said I have a great history and would refund the charge for the next statement. The whole conversation literally took 5 minutes... Read more

I never had any problems with my regular Citi savings account. However, I applied for a Student Savings account about nine months ago, and received a letter saying they couldn't verify some information and that I had to send it in. I went in to reapply four months ago, and they told me that they couldn't reapply for the same card, as it had been closed. This sounded stupid at best to me, but they managed to reapply for a different card under the same name. After a few weeks I got a letter asking for more information. I sent it in, and then another few weeks, more info, another few weeks, more info... and so on. I became phone buddies with a very nice customer service lady, who told me two weeks ago that once I sent in my last papers, I should have my card in 7-10 days. I have no idea what took nearly five months, as I am a young college student with no debt. It took them three or four days from receiving my papers to get them to the department that needed them, so their internal se... Read more

I first started to write a review that was a little better because some of Citi's services are pretty worthwhile. However, I looked into it a little more and realized just how fundamentally corrupt and predatory this bank is. In brief- I'm a young lawyer with some rotating debt left over from law school. I had put a balance transfer on a citi card with a 0% intro APR. I figured I might not be able to pay it down in the 12 months I had, but it didn't seem like a big deal. Right as I have a big case going to mediation, I got a message from citi stating that they had lowered my credit limit- the claim being that I had too many rotating accounts (most of which are student loans). It wasn't until getting through the mediation and looking at the dates that I realized that a set of things had occurred: 1. They lowered my credit limit within two weeks of the end of the promotional period 2. They lowered the limit by nearly 40% (just over the balance I had) 3. Their claim that I had "too ma... My paycheck didn't fall until the 25th this month and my Citicard was due the 22nd. I went online to pay my account and it wouldn't allow me to change my card to pay the amt due because it was 4 days past due. They also tacked on 39.00 for the late fee to the minimum amt due. They waived the past due amt but it is taken from the principle balance rather than the minimum amt due. What that means is because I cannot afford more than my minimum amt of 41.00, I will remain past due and encur the late fee charges until I can pay the 80.00 monthly charge that includes the late fee. I am a widow raising my 6 yr old on a single budget and I cannot afford 80.00 a month, I will have to do without some groceries in order to pay the 80.00 fee. When the late fee is assessed it will stay on your minimum amt due EVEN THOUGH IT IS WAIVED, it isn't taken from your minimum amt due. When I tried to explain this to Monique, the customer service lady, she became irrate and argumentative and extremely rud... Read more

I have banked with Citi Cards for over 7 years and had no problems until last year. Since then they have been deceptive about an information breach, raised my APR from 12% to 28% on an existing balance, and repeatedly gave me mis-information every time I call. I have very good credit and have always paid on time. This is NOT the way to treat good customers. I strongly advice no one to do business with them, as obviously they have had some management issues and are no longer stable. Even their customer service cannot give consistent answers!

I have had a credit card with Citibank for the past 15 years. I have never been late with a payment in all of this time. I received a letter informing me that my APR to 18.99% unless I opt out and cancel the card. I did, but the latest statement raised my APR from 7.99% to 11.99%. I called a spoke to a very rude account manager that told me the 7.99% was an introductory rate. I don't see how this could be after 15 years. I explained that I was laid off from my job of 10 years, this being the case with so many people, and asked if they could bring the rate back down. She ended up yelling at me. I told her that if they force all of their clients into bankruptcy, then they many have a lay off too. She hung up on me. Very unprofessional.

I would have to say that this was the worst experience that i have ever had with a bank. The customer service is horrible. That's right Kelly (account manager) i mean you!!! I got a card through Citi Bank so that i could take advantage of the 0% introductory APR. I tried to do a balance transfer from the Citi card to my credit card that i had with another bank. Nothing happened after a few days so i called customer service and the lady told me that i could not transfer funds onto another credit card, (that's weird...i think that's what balance transfer means, hmmm!). I didn't really understand why that was but never the less i took her word for it...big mistake!! She told me to wait a few days and she would cancel that transaction and then i could make a new one and transfer into my checking account. I waited and then when the time came, i transfered i then transfered the money from my checking account onto my credit card. About a week later i decide to check my account and see that i ... NEVER USE CITI and especially not with EXPEDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BE WARNED!!!! i opened up a mastercard with them via expedia.com so i can get $50 discount on my holiday. i made one transaction for this and i paid them back immediately, but, since then, somehow someone got hold of my information and made fraudulent charges on my account. citibank sent me a declaration of fraud charges to complete and i returned this information to them. however, it has been 3 months and for everyday citibank continuously phones me morning, noon and night and when i pick up this call it hangs up. i spoke to citibank and according to them this is a legal requirement because i have a past due account (even though i was informed i was not liable for the charges and i had closed my account and the new one they set up for me). the only way i can stop these calls was to send them a written letter. how ridiculous is that? so, for 3 months and this is currently ongoing, i contacted them again after they "lost my... It's the worst credit card ever. They froze my credit card just because the payment of $93.00 was delayed 5 days. The Citicard called me this morning 7:00 am when I was sleeping, and said the payment was past due 5 days. I did not realize it because I never received the last bill. I told that guy I am on a trip and coming home today and will make the payment tomorrow. He asked me to pay the balance by phone or by internet, but I didn't think that's a good idea, since the internet was unsecured and I don't like to give out my bank info by phone, especially when I was sleepy. The guy said it's ok if I can make the payment on Monday, but he didn't say he will freeze my account. I called the citicard when I realized my credit card was frozen, they said my account would not be leased until the payment is made. It's really pissed me off, since I never delayed my payments and my credit score was really good, over 700, and I have used this card since 2003.

Citibank is the worse bank. I had an account with them and I had a heart attack and while I was in the hospital my son went to the atm and deposited a check of 20 dollars but he accidently put in 200 dollars and my wife did not know this and spent some of the money when I got out of the hospital I found out what happened and brought my account up to date and had my other money from irs and job deposited into my account they blocked my account and would not let me access the money instead they closed my account and said they would mail me a check. Mortage for two months were due the day they closed my account because I was not working with my chest split open and having a 5 way bypass I got behind on the mortage. do you think they gave a crap? Citibank is dogging it and may go TU. In a typical governmental SNAFU, the wonderful TARP Act has had reverse consequences. All the banks crowded in to take funds because that seemed to be the "Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval." Then when they found out that bureaucratic mopes were trying to tell them how to run the banks, then all the banks ran for the door and paid back the moola. The only problem is that Citi didn't have the dough. It tried to sell more stock but the stock is only going for about three bucks a share. You can't raise much money that way.In addition Uncle Sam owns about a third of Citi and the bright boys in Washington tried to sell their chunk as well. It is all a mess or as Tommy Lee Jones stated in "No Country For Old Men," "It'll do until the mess gets here."Instead of using the equity money to strengthen the banks by selling more stock, the banks become more weak by paying out good money to get rid of useless government tit suckers who are overseeing the o... The biggest New York City based banks are IMO the worst banks in all the United States. Specifically Citibank and J.P. Morgan Chase, - I have medium size accounts with both banks (in excess of $75,000 and $50,000 respectively). I will be closing both accounts ASAP. Several years ago when I was still working, I was the victim of identity theft because of Citibanks insecure, inadequate so-called security policies which required a Debit to use online banking. Then to enter your pin number online to setup an online account. Hackers had hacked into their network (or my computer) somehow and got my name, address, and pin number. They then called customer service and said they were me, and they had lost their debit/atm card, changed their address and had a new one mailed to their address. I have never used an ATM/debit card and I did not want a Citibank card, especially with their high interest rates. The only reason I even had it issued is because I was compelled to if I wanted to use their ... Read more

We had been Citibank MasterCard card holders for 8 years and always paid balance in full each month. Two days ago, my card was declined which puzzled me. I called Citibank after writing a check for my purchase. The customer service rep said the computers were down for 5 hours call back. I assumed the computer issue may be cause of the rejection. Next day, tried to use it and declined. Made the phone call and was told that due to a credit report we did not meet their new criteria. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told about the same thing. I told her I could not understand because we pay all of our 3 credit cards in full each month to avoid finance charges and are not delinquent in any of our debts. She said she could understand my distress but this is their new "criteria". I guess they can make more money off of late fees and finance charges. Never had to deal with such terrible customer service from a bank. The lady on the phone (mind you, I did asked for the supervisor for a dispute) was absolutely unhelpful. Not only that, but she was giving me an attitude. I ended up canceling the credit card because of my frustration with citi's call center. The bad online banking web design isn't helping to keep me with the company either. They should rework the site, especially the layout of the statements and transaction details.

I am sick and tired of them - I indicated to the individual on the phone that they are molesting me but to no avail - they continue to call. Terrible! I opened an account over 3 years ago. Initially I had the Access account and savings account package. No checking, which was fine. Then, a year later, I signed up to change my account to Checking and Savings. They said ok, and they would give me the package where all is free as long as I had direct deposit every month OR online bill pay once a month OR kept a minimum balance. I had direct deposit, so I figured it was fine-no fees. After a year of no fees, all of a sudden, Im charged $3.50 per month for checking and anywhere from $11 to $13 for savings! It wasn't even the same fee amount every month! I called and they were like "oh we did an audit and started charging fees for customers who were supposed to be charged, but weren't. I said no, thats not possible because I signed up for the package that says I don't pay a fee if I have direct deposit or bill pay or kept a minimum balance. I agree with the last review. I would rate Citibank negative stars if I could. First, I opened my account with Citi by "accident" as a young college student. I was far away from home, and there were Citi employees on campus giving away "free" phone cards for filling out information. I reviewed the application and told the gentleman that I had no interest in opening a credit card account. He told me the application was NOT for a credit card, it was for information only. I told him it appeared to be for a credit card. He assured me that if I filled out the application, I would not be applying for an account with Citi. Young and dumb, I fell for it, but wary, I gave them incorrect phone an email information. I did, however, reveal my correct address, and days or weeks later, I received TWO credit cards from Citi. Yes, two. The one application which wasn't an application for a credit card was actually two applications for two credit cards. Naturally, I chose never to use the ca... Read more

Be very careful using a citibank credit card or any organization associated with their card (Home depot). My husband applied for the card in order to save 10% on a purchase. We moved soon after and didn't use the card for over a year. He made a purchase of a lousy $13.00 and when we were billed, the bill wasn't forwared because it had been more then a year. They turned it into the credit companies and ruined his credit. Prior to this has credit rating was 800+ and 26 items were in good standing. I have tried unsuccessfully for several months to get them to reverse this judgement and they won't budge. We can bail them out for mismanagement but they refuse to fix our credit due to an obvious mistake.

Citi NRI is the worst website ever built. For one the login is kinda goofy. You have a complex 16 digit login ID that you can mask with a user id. However your user id is mapped to your login id on each computer (Basically I can have as many user ids as I have computers.) You delete cookies and you are back to the drawing board. The password you gotta type in using your mouse using some goofy onscreen keyboard. Then you go to a cluttered screen with over 200 links. God help you if you want to find anything there. If you want support you have to send an email from the support link, however if you send an email from your mailbox you will never get a response. After a week or so somebody responds without reading your question. Keep in mind the response never appears in your mailbox (Your mailbox always shows empty). Once you go to the support link and see the inadequate message, you are required to respond to that message (They call is a query. I guess they think their employees are like ... Read more

I've had credit cards from a number of vendors (Discover, Chase, Citibank, MBNA). This is the worst company I've worked with. I pay off my balance every month (which is probably why they don't like me). I got a Citibank card a little over a month ago and get paperless statements. I went online to pay my bill as I've done with every other credit card I've ever owned. When I tried to set up my checking account information, it asked me for a "secret phrase that I created when I set up my account." No matter what I tried, this did not work. There was a link to "get a hint," but that did not work. Since I signed up for paperless statements, I don't get a bill I can pay by mail. I called customer service to pay off my balance (either with a different credit card or by check - I didn't care), and they told me that there was a $14.95 fee to pay off my balance by phone. Ridiculous! I can't pay by mail, I can't pay online, and they want to charge ~$15 to pay by phone? I've never expe... Read more

I'd give them ZERO STARS if it were possible. The worst service ever. Our old local bank was taken over by Shitibank years ago and we thought what the heck, stay with them and give them a shot. They had our savings, checking, and several investment and retirement accounts. The daily banking stuff is substandard but bearable. The investment side-- the pits. We're filing formal complaints. Nearly every single time we had to deal with them-- for example, change allocations, docs for taxes, make annual contributions, etc.-- they screwed up. And not just a little bit. Always a different rep, practically annually. And all except one guy made us feel like we were bothering them when we asked to see them face to face (that's only once a year). Now we've been trying to move our money elsewhere and they keep screwing that up. After 2 months, and having done part of what they're supposed to do, they claim they have no record of ever having received any instructions or documents for th... Read more

Do not--DO NOT-- use Citibank for any of your financial or banking needs. I was a loyal customer for more than a decade and had multiple accounts with them--mortgage, home equity, checking, etc. I've just had a long drawn-out dispute with them over a gigantic early-closure fee on my home equity line and they refused to reconsider the fee, and were incredibly rude and difficult to talk with, even though they themselves had arbitrarily changed the policies on the account recently. I've had conversations with Wells Fargo, Washington Mutual, and others and all have vastly better customer service than Citibank. I would never bank with them again.

Citibank does not honor their agreement to reimburse a customer for charges made. I recently had $12,500.00 worth of dental work done to find out 3 months later that all work has to be redone. Not only redone but because of the horrible work performed I now need implants, have a painful jaw, my bite is off and may need braces. Citibank is not honoring their policy of reimbursement for incomplete or work not done right. Now a $12,500.00 which I was price gouged for in the first place will cost me another $20,000.00 to rectify the issue. A job that should have costed $7,800.00 will cost me $32,00.00. It has become common that Citibank and ABN Amro, Karachi, Pakistan call their customers who have only defaulted on 2-3 installments or payments by continually phoning them at all times (sometimes 50 phone calls) and threatening them of dire consequences if the customer does not pay immediately. They even suggest that the customer BEG, BORROW or STEAL, but must pay immediately at all costs. When a customer cannot pay immediately, he or she are threatened and the staff use derogatory language. When any customer suggests they wait a few months and everything would be settled as the customer is currently facing financial crunch, the reply is that how dare you take loan from Citibank if you cannot afford payback. The customer then suggests to take the matter to Court for recovery of their loan if they cannot wait for 3-4 months, the reply is that they would send goons to visit the house or the office of the customer. The bank usually sends its goons to the customer's premises and embarrasse... Read more

I suggest avoiding Citibank. I had an account there for just a couple months, and they messed up just about everything you can imagine. Incorrect fees, account connections, and so on. I gave them many chances to correct things, over the last two months. But it's only gotten worse. Just say NO to Citibank.

I was denied for a student loan that had been guaranteed by my school. Without this loan, it is unlikely I will be able to attend college. Thank you Citibank. Thank you for fucking me for the rest of my life.

Citibank is without a doubt the largest conglomerate of shit heads ever assembled! No offense to Indian people, but GODDAMN they don't have one person in customer service that speaks anything remotely bordering on coherent English. Do not open an account with Citibank EVER!!! Sooner or later they will fuck you.

I got double billed on credit card. They refused to correct it. Ruined my good credit. They now want 14,000 dollars for a 500 dollar over charge from many years ago.

Just canceled my credit card with Citibank after they jacked my rate to from 10% to 30% due to their deceptive website that allows you to add a bank-account for payments but not automatically withdraw! There is absolutely no way to sign up automatic payments online! They refused to reduce the rate until i made six months worth of payments. They offered to send me an "auto-pay" sign up packet via regular mail which i would receive in two weeks. Never received. Ironically i can cancel my account online, just not setup automatic payments! CitiBank, this is the 21st century, get with the program!

Citi bank is the worst bank ever I had dealt with. I lost my internet pin number and I had to get it reset. They asked all sort of question and then told me that it will take 30 days to send me a new pin. Till then I cannot access the account. What sort of bank is that? There is no way to escalate it either.

CitiBank or ShittyBank? 3/14/08: Heard about offer for 2 airline tickets for opening $1,000 checking and $25,000 savings accounts for 3 months. Phoned local branch and was told that unless I had an invitation by U.S. mail, they could not help me. Went to citibank.com website, saw same offer and 866-899-3342. Phoned and spoke to Jesse in India. I was told that I could fund accounts online as soon as I received Welcome kit. Jesse opened 4 accounts instead of 2 which is where nightmare began. 3/20/08 received Welcome Kit by U.S. mail. Booklet listed 2 accounts. Tried to set-up online account. Not possible without PIN numbers which arrive separately by U.S. Mail. Drove to local branch and deposited $26,000 in cashiers checks. Teller verified them so I could have immediate access to funds. While at local branch someone from India left me a phone message saying to callback 800-745-1534 but did not say why and he left a reference number that was impossible to comprehend due to his poor En... All these post are correct, and I am guessing that the 5 star ones are from management. This place is the most ridiculous bank on the planet. Unless you are ultra rich, do not bank here. They will lie, and steal your money. If you go with them, after reading this review site......"I told you so"

They say the best mobile banking in USA, I say the worst. I got CitiBank to work with my Blackberry, the branch was 5 stars the online experience was horrible, the phone support was worse, I had never been yelled at by a bank representative for trying to get software loaded on my phone... After less than 6 weeks I just closed the account, branch was great again but only and phone support is horrible

Fucking bank. Hell they take bullshit 24 hrs to unblock your account. They block your account if you overdraw by mistake and they never automatically unblock your account even when there is a credit to your account.
