Well rudeness at Aldi seems to be universal. I just shopped an hour ago in Rathmines, Dublin, Ireland at an Aldi for the very last time. I had just unloaded two items and was proceeding to place the rest of the stuff onto the belt when the customer behind let her large container of water travel too far to the end. As I was moving back that item in order to fit the rest of my purchases, the cashier in very hostile manner asked me to let that customer go ahead as she only had one item. Normally I always cheerfully oblige one-item customers. However this was so close to a demand from the cashier that I pointed out that I was already in line and had already placed some of my stuff. An arguement ensued. The rude cashier was becoming aggressive. So I unloaded my stuff as fast as if I were working on a factory conveyor belt. i use to live in mt gambier. s.a and i use to go to hamilton victoria just so i could go to a aldi store i just love a aldi store.now i live up in darwin at howard springs and i miss not being able to shop at a aldi store.so please can you open a aldi store up here.we dont have many grocery stores to choice from coles or woolworths thats it and the odd corner store. please consider a aldi store up in darwin you wont regret it believe me. thank you for your time regards judith todd

Aldi does have ok prices but the level of customer service is extremely bad. I went to the Aldi on 95th Street in Overland Park Sunday afternoon and I had to wait in line while a couple of employees argued about their personal life and made nasty comments about customers. You can get some decent prices there but prepare to visit a dive where it comes to how they treat the customers. If their level of customer service is that hostile and careless in front of the customers you can only worry what goes on in the back rooms.

Aldi is good for only a few things. Their Clancey brand of some snacks are not edible to me. I would never buy meat or produce there and some things just look weird. And a lot of the food is tasteless. It is good for paper products and some toiletries but you really get what you pay for. I will continue to shop there but only for few selective products. I'm afraid of trying a lot of it frankly.

I had my doubts at first about ALDI. They opened a new store in my neighborhood in front of a Walmart. I went to get a cart and saw they was chained to the one in front. My wife told me I needed a quarter. So no problem I put in my quarter. Yes, at first when you walk in you don't recognize any of the brands. But you have to get pass that initial shock. We found great prices on their products. The produce is pretty good especially the Oranges. The checkout was fast and I couldn't believe how much we saved on a full cart of groceries. Before they opened we would go to Target or Shop Rite and for the same amount of groceries we would spend at least $200 our bill at ALDI's was $125. The taste of the food was the same as brand name. Yes, you have to know which products you like and which you don't prefer. I had the cranberry juice there. I didn't like so I know not to buy it next time. But I did like their Red Grapefruit juice. When it comes to ALDI, people need to remember that they get what they pay for. I am a single mom, trying to go through college and work, and I am always looking for ways to save money. Which is why I shop at ALDI! Sure, not all of their brands are the greatest. But their "Fit and Active" is usually delicious, if you actually examine the produce then you can get good fruits and veggies. I generally stay away from their frozen section, but I may have just had a few bad experiences. Anyway, even if I don't buy all of my groceries there, I still manage to save between $20 and $50 on the stuff I do buy within the month. That's the whole point! You put your quarter in the cart because it saves them money so we can save money. You can only use debit/ebt/cash because hey, the people who shop there are poor. I love Aldi. So far I have not had any problems. I have been to an Aldi in Germany(because I am from there) and Aldi in Spain, Switzerland and France. I buy the rice crispies over there, because my son could not stand the generic brand from Wal mart. I love their german roast coffee(it is actually roasted in Germany)for $3.99. Now I don't have to go to the German Deli anymore and spend $8.99 over there for a pound of german coffee. So I save $20.00 on coffee per month. I started washing our clothes with Tandil HE, and save over $7.00 per bottle if not more. It does the same job in my German Bosch washer. The Aldi I go to is always busy, and I turned a few friends on to shop over there. Well my German friends all shop there, because they know the store from Germany, and also know that they don't sell crappy foods. I went to Aldi's for my bi-weekly shopping trip. This store highly impressed me! I got many snacks for my daughter that are healthy such as the Fit and Active snack packs. I would probably pay double that at the store I usually go to. Also grapes where a fabulous deal, half as less as I usually pay. Their grapes where so crunchy and fresh too and the sweet potato I had for lunch from Aldi was a very vibrant orange, much more fresh than I usually see. I almost hit the floor when I found out how low my bill was! The clerk was very friendly and energetic, giving me advice on what others do to pack their foods, like bringing in rubbermaid tubs. Aldi used to be a fair place to shop, but has really gone downhill. They do not stock as many items as most food stores do so you will allways need to go else were to finsh your shopping list. Bread is all ways hard and will mold within a few days. Soups and other items needed for holiday cooking will allways be sold out because they box two kinds of items in each case. Cream of celery will be stacked to ceiling, cream of chicken will be gone. Frozen veggies have lots of stalks in them and canned vegtables are poor quaility. Every time we go we find new items that have been down sized or watered down, such as Tandil laundry detergent watered down and price up, beef jerky went from 2.75 oz. to 2.25oz. and same price, anti-dandruff shampoo went from 14.5oz. to 13.5oz. and price went up. They do not accept credit cards and dedit is the only form of payment. Other no name brand stores in area have better quaility and selection. Let me start by saying that Aldi will not succeed in the North Texas grocery market. I visited the Rowlett, Texas store for a few items to make pizza. They do not even sell pizza sauce. Their pepperoni has no taste at all. The cheese was OK. Only two slections of beer, one from Germany and the other from Holland. Every isle is an obstacle course. There was only one rude checker working and told me I had to buy a bag and after checking out informed me to retrieve a cart for her. I told her to do your own job. What a freaking joke of a store. This was my first and last visit. I would rather pay more for quality and service.

West Columbia, SC I shop at Aldi about every two weeks - I get enough to feed two people for almost two weeks for under $90! I have never had a bad experience. I love the selection and everything is very easy to find. It is not a pain to pay a quarter for the shopping cart, you get it back when you return it. I would suggest buying the reusable bags for $1.99 - they are great! Unlike some of the other posts, I love their cereal and meats - well I love all the food they have. Take a chance..you will like it too! :)

ALDI Store - Mount Laurel, New Jersey: This store sucks! I call it the fake food store. My wife just laughs it off. But since I do most of the cooking because I am a stay at home dad, I know what I'm talking about. The quality of food blows. Chicken is full of water. Breaded chicken is all breading. Hamburgers become hockey pucks. Sausages have chunks of bone in them. Single sliced ham steaks are very poor quality - thick fat layers. Coffee Creamers have NO taste. Instant noodles (alfredo) never thicken up. Red Beans and Rice never thicken up. Canned veggies have staks in them. Frozen veggies have stalks in them. Frozen green beans are as thick as tooth picks. Diaper wipes are only 3/4 full. Diapers cause my 2 year old to develop a rash because they don't absord the urine like they are supposed to. If I could, I would rate it a "0". This store is a step below Sak n Save. They don't have ANY name brands you can even recognize or trust. The fancy flyers that were sent to the homes should have sated that ALDI charges .25 cents for a shopping cart and that the aisles are so small that you have a hard time navigating with a cart. The store smelled bad and there was no ambiance music. I like quality groceries at reasonable prices and it would be nice if it is at least a "little bit fun". I thought this grocery store was in a respectable part of town but I guess it is trying to target people with lower incomes who may prefer to shop no name brands in a store with cramped space. I went ahead and bought a few items since I drove all the way out to the store to see why they are advertising so heavily. ALDI, in combination with my bank, wasted a good portion of my day. After loading all my shrink-wrapped, neon glowing veggies into my cart along with the rest of my food, I made my way to the checkout. With the only cashier running around the store doing something else, several customers were wandering around. When she finally came back, I unloaded my cart on to the belt. After everything was rung up I swiped my credit card and it asks for a pin. They do not accept credit cards and that is the only form of payment I have because my bank decided to deactivate my card before the expiration and before I activated my replacement card. Also, there were no signs to indicate that they did not accept credit. If Mcdonalds can accept the credit card fees on my $5 transaction, then surely Aldi could without losing their low cost status. This was the last straw in a string of inconveniences that make Aldi not worth it for me.

Today was my first and last experience with Aldi. I went to the new Aldi store in Richardson, Texas. At first I was a little disappointed with the lack of selection. However, the store offered a lot of bargains. So I was under the impression that I had made a good choice in deciding to give Aldi a try. Upon leaving there was two long lines, therefore a man working the registers removed the closed sign on the end checkout and directed me to that lane. Two elderly ladies who where behind me also followed. While there was no cashier on the checkout lane I started unloading all my groceries. And patiently waited for a cashier...and waited, and waited. The same man then opened the lane on the opposite side, and didn't think it was necessary to tell me that the lane he directed me to wasn't going to be opened. I find that the prices are good on many different items. In my area the produce and ground beef are fresher/cheaper than the local Walmart Supercenters. However, some items, like coffee creamer, I wouldn't purchase there mainly due to the taste. Canned vegetables and pastas are good as well. The snack food items like chips and dip are reasonably priced and are comparable to the name brand labels. The Aldi's stores in my area, Upstate New York, are fairly new with the oldest built within the last 5-6 years. The stores are usually clean and well stocked and the clerks are friendly and helpful.

I had a hard time deciding between two or three stars for Aldi's Food Stores. I ended up giving them three stars because the prices are really good, and the checkers are the fastest you will find anywhere. I have no problem bringing my own bags and bagging my own food, in fact I would rather do that then rely on the store to do it, it saves time, energy, and resources which is part of the reason the prices are as low as they are. On the other side you have to watch what you buy here, some of the food tastes like cardboard and is kind of gross. They have a lot of stuff that is of good quality of course, but you might want to watch some of the produce and meats.

My wife shops at Aldi and I have been there a few times. some things are ok to buy there, however you have to be very selective. alot of the food is below par. I would never buy fruit and vegies there. I refuse to eat their cereal. Things like sugar, flour etc. would be the only things worth purchasing where taste and quality is not such an issue.

I've shopped at Aldi's for over 30 years. With the exception of one can of beans, I've never had a problem with their food - and that was over 20 years ago. When my kids were small and things were tight, they allowed us to feed the family better. Today, my husband and I shop there regularily - there are several Aldi stores within 5 miles of our house and we do 95% of our shopping there. In fact, we prefer most of their brands to name brands - their stuffing to Stovetop for example (ST is MUCH saltier) The only reason I go to Walmart is if I need something quickly - it's only a couple of minutes from my house. As far as the quarter cart thing, if you shop outside the US, all the stores require a deposit for shopping carts - and personally I think all the grocery stores should do the same - would save on cart dings on cars. As a former District manager for ALDI I can say with confidence you prob. did not feel good because ALDI instructs their employees to spray a fly killing chemical agent in the air above and directly around their produce section with out a thought about what effect it may have on the produce or even the customer. As for the milk seeming watered down, it could be due to the fact that it was transferred from another store in the area in the trunk of the managers or district managers car with no air conditioning or temperature control. Initially I shopped at ALDI when I started working there however, quickly stopped eating the products they had after seeing the behind the scenes picture! Hope this helps

The skim milk seems to taste watered down compared to Walmart's skim milk. The brocolli gave me a headache. There had to be some chemicals in that brocolli, I am very sensitive to additives - and something was in that brocolli. The shredded cheese was a great price at 16cents/oz, but it does not have a natural cheese taste. Tasted like too much flour or an additive was added. The vegetable cans carry more water than Walmart brand - WMT - better value. I cooked a chicken breast in a pan and water kept coming out of it. Could it be that water is added to the chicken to make it heavier per pound? Despite all this, I still shop there. But you have to be a wise shopper! This is a great "guy's" store. I don't have to check the unit price of 20 different versions of the same item. German efficiency in America! Love it. Just remember to bring a quarter (they will give you one tho it's embarrassing), a debit card and grab a box on the way in (they often leave some there for you). The line may be long but those girls move FAST. Not enough time to flirt with them tho. I hear they are well paid. Quite an odd collection of customers. The poor, the old and the just plain cheap. You never know what you will find. I bought an LCD monitor for $400 back when Sam's Club was charging $500. Still works perfectly. Love their mushroom spaghetti sauce for $1.09. Haha...I just remembered I'm poor, old and cheap.

I work for ALDI in management, and I do agree with many people on here that it is not a full service store, or that some of the products don't taste as good (grape kool'aid squeeze knockoffs, etc.) but the bottom line that people like is saving money, and that IS what happens when shopping at ALDI. I have even converted my parents from shopping at Byerly's/Lunds, which is very expensive compared to shopping at ALDI. I admit that the produce is sometimes spotty (come on truck days, every other day, very good produce), and the line at the checkout is slow (never the cashier, always people fiddling for change, not knowing their pin number, etc., as we are compensated for our service speed), but the bottom line is you will buy the same amount of groceries that you normally do weekly for half the price. All I can say is CHEAP! and not in a good way either. Their products are of low quality compared to other store brands I have tried in the past. When they sent out the flyers for the grand opening, they neglected to say bring your own bags and a quarter for a cart, which I feel is just ridiculous. A store who goes out of their way to avoid hiring help, is just not a good addition to any community in this economy. Sure their prices are really low, but still not worth sacrificing quality. There were actually bits of husk in the canned corn, yuck! If I wanted to eat corn husk, I would get a tamale not a can of corn, and since I dont like tamales, their corn was just gross. I find it absolutely hilarious that some people think our food is cheap. We pay name brand suppliers to put our label on their food and then sell it at a lower price for the consumer. I know this because I work for the company. Thanks to all the supporters we love you. And to all the haters I laugh at you because you waste money on the same products you purchase at other retailers.

it is a cheap store with cheap service. don't believe the label says "Double Guarantee", Aldi can not keep its word. you can not return its store band intact product without a receipt! store manager and clerk were not trained well how to treat a customer.

Priced significantly lower than supermarkets. Easy to prepare good quality foods. I love it, it's where I do all my food shopping!

We are retired senior citizens and just love Aldi store in our area. The quality is great. Stuffing mix 79 cents, rice a roni 59 cents, cereals $1.49, pork tenderloins $3.99 pound, soy milk $1.39 qt., and produce is very good quality at a good price. We bring our canvas bags, and a quarter to rent the cart. Try it......you will like it and the savings!!!!

I have shopped at Aldi store for many years , I am very upset that you have changed you Tandil laundry detergent, I have recomended this product to all my friends and family and they have all been very happy until now It has been watered down and takes three times as much to get the clothes clean. Why have you done this. I was afraid this would happen but I thought Aldi was better than this.

I have been shopping at Aldi's for years and I love it. My fiancee are on a really tight budget so this work out for us. I love their 12 grain bread. It tastes better then brownberry's, which I use to buy. Oh, I highly recommend their new eco friendly bags. They are HUGE! I got $100 worth of groceries in 3 of those bags.

I Love ALDI'S! To all my frugal shopper friends I know you can feel what I am saying. My husband works at an engineering firm and I work for the local school district. We could easily afford to go somewhere else but why? Why would I just throw my money to a bigger grocery chain when I get what I need cheaper at Aldi's without sacrificing quality. I buy everything from food to special purchase items for around the house and even shoes. For example: Typically we buy Sketchers shoes from 'Famous Footwear' but I have found Aldi's shoes aren't too shabby! We just bought a 'Fiesta Grill" and went down to a local farming supply company that had the SAME FIESTA grill for double the price. Again ... ahhhh why would we give our money away ... when we can keep it. The one thing you have to come with is actual money or have it in your checking account if you use your debit card. My love affair with Aldi is only rivaled by my love affair with filet mignon and king crablegs. I buy everything possible at Aldi, and then buy the king crablegs and filet mignon at the most expensive shop in town. It's like getting the crab and filet FREE. There are only a minute number of things that I've found to be inferior from Aldi. The rest is unbelievable and in MANY instances, better than the brand name things from major grocery retailers at crazy cheap prices. A HUGE can of GOOD dark roast ground coffee for $4.29 found my best (brand snob) friends complimenting my coffee service with, "Mmmmm.... this is Starbuck's, right?" When I told them it was cheap Aldi coffee, they laughed because they just knew I was joking. MUAAhaah! Have you tried the Grandessa line of salad dressings? LOVE Aldi!! I save over half on my grocery bill - I can afford Kroger or Giant Eagle, but why give the grocery store more, when you can put it in your pocket!! I have shopped at Aldi for years. I have NEVER had a bad item. The produce is excellent, the frozen foods, wonderful - the yogurt is my favorite, the cheese is great - I LOVE IT ALL!! Aldi is one of the largest grocers in the world = check out www.aldi.com and is a German company. I totally believe in them and am constantly trying to convert others to the Aldi way of grocery shopping!!

Aldi's is THE best. After going to Costco and seeing that fresh beans were $6.99 and mushrrooms were $4.59, I said, "That's it. Aldi's, here I come!" The next week my fiancee and I--a mainstream brand enthusiasit--agreed, and we filled up an entire grocery cart of food at Aldi's for less than $100--with far, far, far more items than the 2 we could have gotten at Costco for more than 1/10th of what we paid at Aldi's. Unreal. When hard economic times hit, it's great to have such a reasonable alternative with Aldi's. No stray grocery carts in the parking lot floating around, thanks to a very sensible cart deposit, and terrific idea to have customers bring their own bags or use boxes to lug off items--very green and eco-friendly policy (reduces waste all around). Mostly poor products, worse service and not as cheap as they used to be. I also suspect that staff training is not what it should be. During a recent random debit card transaction check an Aldi employee took my wife's card into a back office to check it. Now obviously you should never let your card out of your sight. Worse, he then called her to the office and said 'it's you bank on the phone'. Now obviously you should never trust that it is your bank on the phone. When I found out a went mad at the manager, but she seems to have no idea about precautions that should be taken to protect customers card data. So if you really must shop there, don't use your card.

A new Aldi store just opened up in our area. I was really excited; I've shopped at other Aldi's in the past; but none were convenient. Sure the prices are great; but it's not worth the stomach problems that seem to go along with it. Is anyone else having any stomach problems from the food bought at Aldis? Some of the stuff bought: Cereals, boxed mac & cheese, Citrus Punch, yogurt, granola bars, etc. All these items seem to be wrecking havoc on my family's stomaches.

We just got our first Aldi last month and I'm sold on it! I've cut my grocery bill in half. So far I can purchase just about everything I need for my weeks groceries there and the quality is excellent. The produce is far nicer and cheaper than my regular grocers, paper goods are half the price. I will say I use Pillsbury frozen biscuits and I tried Aldi's brand and didnt care for them as much, however at half the price, the taste difference wasn't enough for me to not purchase them again. The other thing I found that I didnt care for was the bread. It seems to go bad quickly. Other than that, everything else I've purchased has been just as good as the name brands I purchase, at half or more than the cost I was paying. Not a fan at all. Sure that can of tuna is .$29, but its packed in Laos. And those canned green beans for $.35, great, except that I'm constantly picking out stalks. You really do get what you pay for, and when it comes to food, I'll stick to quality.

You've gotta bag your own groceries, and deposit a quarter to use a cart, and selection is sometimes pretty limited.  However, the prices are remarkably better (I save a buck on just a half-gallon of milk, when compared to the price at Cub or Rainbow foods).  Service can be awfully slow, but that's usually the customers ahead of me in line, or minimal staff - I've rarely seen a slow cashier.  The produce is spotty, but the meats and dairy have been consistently high quality at remarkably better prices than elsewhere. Because of the limited selection, I shop elsewhere as well - but usually only after I've gone to Aldi's - I'll buy it there first if it's available.

first of all - you can't actually do all of your shopping at aldi because their selection is limited and it doesn't erase the need to actually go grocery shopping. there are just some things that they carry.....like tortilla chips, stir fry veggies, lettuce and bell peppers, lemons, coffee, chocolate, kids toys, salt, pepper, spices, cereal.......that you can't beat the price on. and yes, not everything tastes great (does everything any store carries taste great?) and lines might be a bit long some times, but I have to argue that my local walmart is way worse in terms of customer service and lines and charges a quarter for a cart too.

I like to shop at Aldi Foods. We have about 6 locations in our area. The prices are low and quality and taste is really important for the customers. The only thing I don't like right now is that ALDI sells milk, eggs, chicken, and produce at a high price. So I went to another ALDI store located about 30 minutes over at that location. Guess what...??? I even saved more at this location.

I've shopped at Aldi several times over the years but I'm through with them! I'm tired of worrying about having a quarter for a cart, hunting for boxes to pack my groceries...but most of all- the HORRIBLE customer service. There's always just one line open and the cashier just throws your groceries into a cart - hard items on top of soft items. When we said something to her it was like she did not even hear us! I'm not destitute and I'd rather spend a few pennies more and be treated like a human!

I belive that the service at the aldi store in Ogdensburg was dreadful when they spill spaghetti on their customers and don't even offer you so much as a paper towel to clean the sauce off your clothes and their managment sucks. I plan on mentioning them in the local paper about their service and poor staff

The only good thing that can be said about Aldi is that it is cheap. You bag your own groceries, and you can buy all the can food you want. But don't bother going there for quality produce, meets, or health foods. It's the McDonald's of grocery stores, just not as well know.

Overall, I'd have to say Aldi is the best grocery chain that I've ever shopped at. The prices are very low, and most of the Aldi brand foods taste just as good as the corresponding name brand products. I couldn't believe how much money I spent on groceries during the two summers that I didn't live close enough to an Aldi store.I suppose the produce selection could be a little bigger, and sometimes could be a little fresher, but that's really a minor complaint. I buy all of my canned and frozen food at Aldi, and the majority of my meat and produce.

Product, especially produce, is terrible, and you spend at least a half hour or longer standing in the line because they only have one cashier working! Not worth the hassle at all.

Aldi is wonderful. We complete about 85-90% of our grocery shopping there. The prices are about 40% below the upscale grocery stores - so we're not talking about a few dollars here - the savings are significant. Sure, the carts require a quarter deposit - what the first reviewer has missed is a couple of things - first, Aldi pays their employees very well. Second, Aldi never pays more than they have to - the cart rental is a perfect, elegant example of this, and the savings are passed on. The Aldi brands are almost always as good as the premium brands - and if you are unsatisfied, any product can be returned. The other thing I really love about Aldi is their lack of marketing. One single, double-sided ad in the paper. No annoying commercials, jingles or billboards. I don't know about you, but I'm so sick of stupid commercials that I could puke.
