Ellis Island is a great place to get in touch with your history if your family immigrated to the United States. The exhibits are well done and do connect you to the past. It's a wonderful place to experience the melting pot of America!

Haven't been there for a while but it was a very well-constructed and informational museum.

As a native NY'er, Ellis Island is one of my favorite tourist attractions. The restorations are wonderful, including the reveals of graffiti left my former residents. The donated artifacts tell woderful stories.

Ellis Island is a great "been there, done that" kind of place, but I would not return on my next visit to New York. The restored buildings were not restored accurately. I was looking forward to seeing the grand staircase that I have seen pictures and that my great-grandmother talked about, but it was demolished to make room in the grand hall, I suppose, for the throngs of grade schoolers on field trips to run around like banshees. The exhibits did show to some extent the terrible cattle-call conditions that existed at Ellis Island, but while I was there I became overwhelmed that some of my friends' with slave backgrounds families were not afforded such the "luxurious" greeting by Ms.Liberty and the Island that my European ancestors were given. For all that it is, Ellis Island will give you perspective on American History you may not have considered and a fantastic view of the New York sklyline!

I went to Ellis Island a few years ago to find my grandfather's name on the wall. We did, and made a rubbing of it. It is amazing to think that my grandfather's name is on a wall in New York Harbor, that he made it from his home in Italy to the US. When you set foot on Ellis Island, you can feel the history there. The museum is thorough and informative, but if you want to make sure you get everything in, view most of the museum on one day, take the ferry over to the Statue of Liberty, and then come back the next day to finish up the museum tour. Overall, Ellis Island is a wonderful destination, and no trip to New York would be complete without a stop at the historical island.

It is so rich with history. You see firsthand where most of your ancestors were so many years ago. Ellis Island also goes more in depth in historical facts that you may already know. It was an amazing experience for me as an American history buff. I went there approximately 2 weeks before the WTC tragedies. You see the stories of countless immigrants from all lands. At one point, they made an immigration law that if you were an imbucile, you couldn't enter the country! You are also able to research to see the records of your ancestors at Ellis Island.

Ellis Island was okay. The museum seemed rather small and most of the buildings on the island were closed to the public when I went. There is a huge circle on the island with monuments to all the names of the people who came through Ellis Island. This would be cool to try and find the name of an ancester that came through here, but I didn't know the names of any I might be related to. I didn't get a chance to hear any of the tour guides speak because it was incredibly busy when I went, and I didn't get to stay long since I was trying to catch the last ferry back to Battery Park. If you go, it'd be more interesting if you did actually spend some time there to hear what the experts say on the Island, because a self-guided tour isn't very fun.

Ellis Island, like most NYC Attractions, is a must see for any person, it is amazing to walk through those doors imaging the people that went before you, + finding your ancestors on the wall.
