Central Park

A great park that streches from 2-3 miles long. Lots of fun indoor and outdoor activities there. Museams are on both sides of the park. NYC only greatest nature other than Washington Square Park and Bryant Park. I ride my bike and scooter here often. Sounds of nature are great. Theres a lake, a castle, and near gracie mansion. I saw a frankie valleya nd the four seasons concert here. It was rocking awesome oldies. Large crowds. They have shows, concerts, quartets in rain or shine. Lots of entertainment. They have a zoo a pond and a piece of african wildlife seriously for real. It's like a mini forest. Very earthy and green, somewhat educational. Many school and camp trips come here. there are places to shop and eat or bring you own picnic!!!!!!!! It borders colombus circle to thesouth a busy area, near an upscale mall. People of all kinds, tours, celebrities, and people from all walks of life arrive here. Transportation is very easy.

Central Park is some peace and quiet away from the loud NYC streets. I always find myself visiting the park when in NYC. It's a place where you can find your own little space and not be bothered by anyone. I do suggest dancing outside of Tavern on the Green even if you didn't order dinner there! They are usually playing music in their outside area and its always fun to, umm, have fun!

Central Park is the largest park in New York City and one of the largest in the country. Located in the borough of Manhattan, the park offers miles upon miles of green space in a city dominated by concrete and cars. Central Park is one of those places where a person could spend a whole afternoon daydreaming and relaxing during the summer.

I love jogging at Central Park every Saturday. This park is large enough for me to jog for several hours in the morning. It is the place I work out the most in my life. I find Central Park to be a better place to work out than the gym that I used to go. First, Central Park is free. Second, it is not as crowded as the gym. Third, instead of smelling other people?s sweat in the gym, you can get some fresh air at the park. I also enjoy fishing at Central Park. I find it funny to fish in the middle of Manhattan but I am just too lazy to go somewhere far since I live a few blocks from Central Park. There are so many things that you can do and explore at Central Park. I strongly recommend everyone to visit Central Park but not too many as I don?t want it to be as crowded as the gym.

Nice place to take a walk in the afternoon. Great contrast with the skyscrapers and hustle of the city.

I remember Central Park WAY back in the '70s when I was little girl and there were hippies all over the place. They're no longer there, but it is still very cool in my book.

Contrary to what many may think, Central Park is not a sanctuary of untouched nature, but a meticulously engineered man-made park where even water currents are controlled by mechanical valves. The big rocks seen on the surface are pretty much its only untouched component. This only adds to the beauty of it, though. Central Park is a real work of art, and many of the views were actually conceptualized by artists and later materialized in one of the world's most famous parks. The sheer contrast between the skyscrapers and all that green is something that one cannot find easily. Make sure to do more than walk around and check the attractions, such as the zoo, the boathouse, and the Bethesda fountain--you will certainly recognize them from dozens of movies.

I think it's a bit overrated. It's nice to have a big park smack in the middle of Manhattan, and it has lots of things to do, but I've seen better. In New York, Prospect Park. On the East Coast, Fairmount Park (over 10 times larger than Central Pk).

Hey, what happened to the NY Metropolitan Art Museum - the best art museum in America. It's not on this list. Well, since it is next door to Central Park, I'll rate it here - and give it a 5+ BTW, Central Park is pretty nice too. ...Cy

This is a great city. When I was little I was given a beautifully illustrated book of American children's stories, one of which featured a taxi running through the streets of New York at Christmas time. Years later, I had the opportunity to visit during New Year's when it was snowing, and it looked exactly like the illustrations and much more 'intimate' a city than I could have imagined. The open space Of Central Park, with the high rise buildings surrounding the edges was quite magical in the winter's air.

Central Park is what makes NYC so amazing.. the fact that you can enter this huge beautiful park and almost completely abandon the hectic craziness of the city is amazing. I reccomend laying on the rocks, rollerblading... or just walking through the park and discovering new sections... it's just gorgeous... and it has the potential to be so romantic. I can't wait for the day when I have a boyfriend to share it with. :*) NYC really does give you the best of both worlds.

This park is absolutely magnificient with much to see! My wife & I just returned from vacationing for a week in NYC! You just walk and walk! Great place to walk, ride a bike, lay or sit down and read a book.

By 1850, downtown New York's crowded conditions prompted the city commissioners and politicians to propose a public park to provide serenity for the residents of New York. Besides offering a glimpse of green amid the asphalt jungle and its towering skyscrapers, Central Park also provides numerous facilities and attractions, including the Central Park Carousel, SummerStage, the Delacorte Theater, Wollman Rink, the Loeb Boathouse and more. The full loop within Central Park covers a distance of 6.1 miles. If you walked all the pedestrian paths within the park, you would cover a total of 58 miles.

just maybe the best and most unique thing about the best and most unique city in the world. try to allow at least a day to explore, but stay out a night!!!

Whether you need some relaxation or a bit of action, this is the only place in New York City that caters to every mood.

Kudos to the planners of Manhattan for thinking of this truly amazing haven amid the cement caverns of the city. Please go, walk a bit and appreciate the size, if anything else, of this great park.

My wife and I first saw Central Park on Christmas Day 2002 right after the snowfall. Our jaws dropped at just how awesome it looked with fresh snow. We can't wait to come back to visit NYC in the Spring and see the Park with all its greenery. It is without a doubt the most impressive park that we've ever seen.

When you are in Central Park, you feel like your not even in NY. It is a great escape from the "city". Best in spring & fall seasons. A beautiful place!

many tourists come in and out of the city every day thinking that New York is filled with crowded streets and dirty sidewalks..most do not realize that here in lies the best landscaped beautiful oasis in the center of the United States biggest city. All tourists need to come visit the two boat ponds, the Bathezda fountain, and the Great Lawn. So many tourists say, "I don't know how you live in that city..." But, if locals were staying in midtown and hanging our in Times Square all the time..I am sure there would be a lot less people living in this city.

Central Park is one of the world's best parks -- maybe THE best. Great for the zoo or just walking and lounging. A can't miss experience for visitors.

I love everything about central park, from Sheep Meadow, to Forever Wild, to the skating rink. I love rollerblading there, reading there, just sitting around and thinking. I love walking around and exploring. It's just the best getaway ever in the middle of such an active city. Certainly the best free attraction of NYC, at any season. I love taking pictures there too, makes for a great photo album. Not to mention all the other great free things there are to do in the park. Central Park is a must see when visiting NYC.

Can't imagine how New Yorkers would survive in that jungle of concretes and skyscrappers without it. Good place to watch beautiful people during the day :)

I just love Central Park! There's a zoo in it, which is very cheap to get in, children love it. Lots of thing goin' on in it, there's music concerts like summerstage and it's free. The green field is great! You can relax or play with friends and family.

Simply put, Central Park is the best park in the country and probably the world.

Central Park is a great place to go! In the milder months there are always plenty of artists and musicians. The architecture surrounding the Bethesda Fountain is beautiful, and the sight of the skyline surrounding the park is magnificent. I think that considering the size of the Park and the thousands of people that are usually in it, the Park seems remarkably clean. Many kudos to the workers that keep it that way! I must admit that because of the huge size of the park I have never seen more than the bottom 1/3-1/2 or so of the park, although we visit Manhattan a couple of times a year.

Times Square?!?!! Pah-lease. The park represents New York much better than Times Square, with it's streets clogged with chain restaurants. Take your guests to Central Park on a nice day for a picnic and some Frisbee tossing and they'll chalk it up as one of their better days. If they aren's struck by the juxtaposition of building and greenery, check their pulse.

I love to sunbathe and read here on those really hot days, but it's also great for walking around, playing frisbee, and exploring on those breezier days.

Central Park is large enough for everyone. It's a welcome oasis for those who want to do nothing, yet has enough space for those who want to bike, run, skate or play.

Right in the center of Midtown Manhattan is where all the action comes to a stop. If you want to get away from it all but can't afford to take a long trip? Then Central Park is the perfect place for you.

A world within a world! Sounds redundant?. However, New York City's Central Park with it's gamut of sceneries, offer to visitors their own private world. A place were fauna, flora, wind and sunlight, share the seasons thus, molding the spirit of those who visit, those who remember and like me, those who long to be there. I love New York. Central Park will always be my mistress.

Miles upon miles of grass and trees and fun filled things to do! And many are free! How can you beat that?? Run, rollerblade, lay in the sun, take a carriage ride, row a boat, eat at Tavern on the Green...the list goes on and on. It is not possible to be bored in this park.

My five-year old and I love to visit the Central Park Zoo whenever the weather is nice. The must see items are: polar bears, penguins, and the sea lions (call in advance so you know when they are being fed... it is well-worth your time to schedule your trip around the feeding time). The penguins are sleak and swim like fish behind a giant glass wall. The polar bears swim right up against the glass wall so that you can see that one paw is actually bigger than your head. The sea lions are great entertainment for the kids.

Central Park has it all, and the prices can't be beat. Try rowboating around a lovely pond, for only $10 an hour. We saw an incredible amount of wildlife, including red-winged blackbirds, geese, swans, turtles, and several kinds of ducks. You're part of the show, as those on the Plaza watch. Then rent a remote-control sailboat, also only $10 an hour. Learn to tack and steer, without the risk of getting wet, and chase around millions of minnows. Ride a beautiful carousel for only $1. Visit the nature center at Belvedere Castle for free. Participate in one of many other free eventsthe biggest Halloween party, birdwatching, nature walks, sports clinics. And through it all, youre surrounded by incredible scenery. No two parts of the park are the same. After 10 years of visiting, I constantly find new places. In some areas, you cant even tell theres a city around you.

Quiet serene. Went on the rowboats in the park and what a wonderful afternoon. This park is a godsend in a great town.

hands down the best park in the 5 boroughs. my favorite section is way upper west - very peaceful and quiet.

The best thing about the Park -- apart from the idea of a public greenspace in the midst of the urban sprawl -- is the enormous number of public events that take place there. It's an amusement park in its own right -- and even when nothing's officially scheduled, the merrygoround, the duck pon and the itinerant musicians keep things hopping. Not to be missed.

I went to NYC for the first time in October. We had breakfast at a little cafe near Central Park and took a stroll afterwards. I was amazed that in the middle of the park you had no idea you were surrounded by buildings! There was a wedding taking place and it was beautiful!

Try to think of New York without Central Park - it would surely be a less-liveable place. The park provides an oasis of calm. Even when the crowds come in, it still helps to just get away from the cement and sit on the grass under a tree and breathe a bit. The big-time concerts are amazing here, too -- we saw Pavarotti years back and it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

What would Manhattan be like without Central Park? Not only does it offer escape from the busy city streets, it hosts some of New York's best cultural and recreation events: SummerStage, Shakespeare in the Park, Wollman Rink, and so much more.
