Pretty, but populated by inbred hillbillies. Lack of quality services really hurts.

Horrible, horrible internet. I would disconnect with this pathetic excuse for an ISP, but unfortunately this is all that's available on post. I hate Sprint so bad that I hope they discontinue their DSL service... it's slow, laggy, expensive and quite frankly, I'd rather have dialup.

His death will be a tremendous blow to the Wildcat program. Truly a fine coach and person, he will be missed.

Poor academics, and flaky athletics.

Best non-BCS football conference by far. TCU, Utah, BYU and Colorado State have all been serious threats to break the BCS in recent years. Academically, these four schools are better than some of the PAC-10's. The rest of the conference isn't too great either academically or athletically, though UNLV has had its moments in hoops way back when.

Football doesn't get the credit it deserves. USC has been that good, but Oregon, Cal, UCLA and Arizona State all have the potential to be scary good this year too. The rest of the conference is good enough to sneak up on anybody else too. The conference still rides on UCLA's basketball reins though, and hasn't been very good for a while. Academically, horrifically overrated. The top 5 schools (the 4 Cali schools and U-Wash) are superb, but the bottom half of the conference is mediocre at best, just glorified WAC schools.

Superior athletics (football conference first and foremost, and has some basketball prowess) and somewhat overrated academics. Northwestern and Michigan are easily the class of the Big Ten (I don't consider Chicago to be a part of it, even though they're a prior athletic member and still tied academically) and then there's a bit of a dropoff - Penn State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Ohio State represent the middle tier, and a third of the SEC's schools rate better than these. Look up the 2006 US News College report if you don't believe me.

Known for its basketball more than its football, although the addition of VT, BC and Miami certainly helps (although it does somewhat offset the basketball prowess). Underrated academically too.

Superior football and baseball conference, and above average for basketball (men and women's). And the academic thing is a bunch of BS. Vanderbilt, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida are all excellent academic institutions that are better than half the Big Ten's, supposedly the best academic conference in the country. Alabama, Auburn, and Tennessee are all quality public schools as well. The rest aren't so great, but it's more up to you and the effort you put in than where you go get your degree.

Little football tradition, but Lou Holtz has made the program respectable over the past several years and Steve Spurrier is looking to bring that level of success up a notch. Even during the lean years the fans are supportive as any and the stadium rarely fails to sell out. The same can't be said about schools like Texas A&M; and UMiami.
